Question Ram SRT-10 Prerunner

Post image
129 Upvotes

I just scrolled through this sub and saw 15 posts of grey 1500s, all new...

I've got an SRT10. It's an 04. Had multiple accident history, from previous owners. Drives BEAUTIFULLY. Clean title. Needs a bunch of paint work, though.

Something has been tickling the back of my mind years since I bought that thing, and that is to turn it into a desert runner. It's not on a salvage title but it has history, it was actually a salvage title for a couple years, so I'll never get that premium money for it.

I can absolutely do some aftermarket-available over fenders and bedsides and all the long travel bits should bolt on the same...

And if you think I'm spitballing you can scroll through my post history, I've got some fairly modified shit.

Thoughts?

Just got my first 2500 6.4L. This is my dream truck. Just wanted to know what are some upgrades that I should look at? I know the 5.7s would benefit from an oil catch.

Question 2am-3am wake up

Post image
21 Upvotes

Not sure if this is allowed, but I'm hoping someone here has experienced something similar!

I've had my 2025 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport since February 2025, and I'm the original owner. I've been dealing with battery draining issues pretty much since I got it.

They initially replaced the auxiliary battery, and then around Christmas last year, I brought it back in and they replaced the main battery. That seemed to help for a little while, but I still kept a booster pack in my truck because I'd randomly have to boost it.

A few months ago, it started getting bad again, to the point where I was boosting my truck almost every morning.

Dodge has now had my truck for an entire month, and they still can't figure out what's wrong with it. Apparently, the truck keeps "waking up" between 2–3 AM every morning, which is draining the battery. Their current troubleshooting method is pulling fuses and checking the next morning to see if it still wakes up.

I have absolutely nothing aftermarket installed, aside from new rims and tires, and these issues started long before I changed those. I also drive my truck daily, so it's not like it's sitting around for weeks at a time.

Has anyone dealt with something similar or have any idea what could be causing this? I'm getting pretty frustrated that a practically brand-new truck has spent this much time in the shop with no answers.

I just want my truck back. I'm tired of driving around in this minivan rental. 😂😭

Just Sharing Honest review

Ok folks, honest review from my experience over the past few years.

First, I come from a GM family and was always a Silverado guy going way back to my first truck as a 95 Z71.

I bought a 22 Limited Longhorn at the tail end of 21 with the Hemi and E torque and absolutely loved it and had no issues through 50k miles. In a spur of the moment decision I traded it for a 24 Silverado ZR2 because the ruggedness interested me and my brother had just got one, not a well thought out decision and one that I would come to regret.

I had nothing but engine issues right off the rip and was on the recall list for the 6.2, even after they swapped my oil to another viscosity. Interior wise, that truck was so uncomfortable as far as seat quality and had no frills other than heated and cooled seats.

The Bose stereo was also a huge let down, only a handful of speakers and the EQ was so out of whack. You’d have to be at 75-80% volume to really jam out and even then the quality was shit.

Capability wise, I think the ZR2 is a formidable but in the metrics that mattered most to me it was a huge let down.

Fast forward to this year, I got out of that truck and back into a 2026 Limited Longhorn with the same Hemi I had before, but with a few new options I didnt have in my 22, such as air ride. I’ll roll over 3,000 miles this month and for the life of me I couldn’t be happier to be back in a Ram. One of those “dont know what you got till it’s gone” situations, lesson learned.

That said, I travel alot for work around the country and ive had several new Rams as rentals and have tested all the powertrains. For me, the Hemi is my preference, but the Hurricane is a very good engine. My honest opinion is the SO Hurricane is as good as the HO. I had an SO last week and an HO this week and I didnt notice any real difference in acceleration in traffic and highway passing between the 2. The only thing that stands out of course is that the HO requires premium fuel.

Question Ram rebel sagging with wedge style camper

Hi all,

I’m looking at getting a wedge style camper soon (lone peak overland), but I’m worried about the rear end sagging when loaded with the camper and other camping gear. They advertise the camper at 400 pounds (likely more), so that plus another few hundred pounds of gear, water, and people has me worried about off road performance. I don’t necessarily want to install a whole new suspension kit on it, so I was wondering if anyone has experience with bump stops (like the super springs)? I’d also consider air bags, but the camper will be on full time. Any help is appreciated!

Question Jammed Tailgate fix?

Thumbnail

Jammed my tailgate up and the latches are stuck, the little motors in the latches work fine but it will not let go. I removed the back panel and using the manual lever releases, but that didn’t work either, still won’t let go. Tailgate was not out of the pin on one side. How do I get the latches released? Yes, I’m a moron. I forgot there was a gate in the back and pulled into the garage.

Question Post-install checklist for an electric retractable tonneau

Small alignment or drainage mistakes can become leaks, uneven movement, and motor strain after repeated cycles. What should be tested during the first week: rail spacing, seal contact, drain flow, manual release, limits, or wiring protection?

Question What makes retractable steps survive winter on a Ram?

Winter seems to expose every weak point in retractable steps. Slush collects around the hinges, road salt gets into connectors, and an overnight freeze can leave one side halfway down. For Ram owners who have kept powered boards working through several winters, what made the biggest difference: regular cleaning, dry lubricant, sealed wiring, stronger motors, or a particular bracket design? I am trying to understand which features actually matter once the truck is no longer clean.

Question Ram 1500 Classic Warlock transmission pan and filter replacement question

I got the pan coming, I'm just not sure how much fluid I need to buy when swapping it out on the 8HP70.

2019 Warlock, 5.7L, 4x4.

My plan is to swap the pan out, fill it with however much fluid comes out then do it again in the spring and next fall.

My question is how much fluid usually comes out? I'm not doing a flush (hence down the road doing another few drain and refill so most of the fluid will be fresh).

Question Motorized tonneau on a work truck, useful or too delicate?

A work truck needs frequent access and weather protection, but also sees dust, loose debris, and heavier use than a weekend vehicle. Did powered operation save time, or did track maintenance make a manual cover more sensible?

Question Comparing hard electric tonneau covers, help me narrow this down

Hard electric tonneau covers all seem to make a different compromise. Some have better sealing, some preserve more bed space, and others offer easier manual operation when the battery is low. My Ram is used for tools during the week and camping gear on weekends. For long-term owners, which details mattered most after installation: rail alignment, drain design, motor access, slat strength, or parts support? I am looking for practical comparisons rather than brand loyalty.

Question Will 35s fit on stock height 4th gen?

I have a 2010 Dodge ram 3500 tried to put some 35 x 12.5 R20’s on today, but they weren’t even close to fitting the tire scrub in the backside of the front wheel well, gonna be bad enough that Ill have to remove a large chunk of the cab pinch weld. It doesn’t appear that a lift kit is gonna fix this anyway, so now I’m curious how other people put 35s on their trucks without cutting the pinch weld. if I have to cut the pinch weld I will, but if there’s a more common way to do it, I’m interested.
