We were promised flying cars and shit, and all we got was people being so braindead they can't grab some paper and a pen.

They could have literally typed it up in Notes with a handwriting font and screenshotted it at this point. Anything except AI

I think they did, its just everyone these days drop their images into AI to "clean them up". Ya know color balance or whatever, who knows how different it actually looks from the real image. This same thing happened with a recent top post of a cat. The images said they were AI, but OP just ran the real images through AI to make them "look better". Its dumb as fuck but apparently autopilot for some at this point

It's sooo stupid. There was a post on the Garmin sub where someone created a cool app for the watch, then used AI to "clean up" the images. It mangled the words on the case (differently in every pic - even flipped the word "menu" 180 degrees!) and changed how the strap attaches to the watch in one of the pics. And of course people started picking on that, justifiably, saying they don't trust the code or the safety of the app if the developer is acting shady. It was a cool app, too - showed your location on the world map when you're in a plane. Literally everyone liked the concept, and when someone pointed out the AI, half the people noped out and the mods deleted the post.

Yeah, when I used apps for scanning documents with my phone camera years ago, it cleaned it up using AI. Otherwise it would look like I just took a photo of a document (which was actually what I did). I think people don't really know that we had AI before ChatGPT.

People post videos with AI generated stick figure drawings, too. It's nuts--and embarrassing.

How lazy do you have to be that you use AI for a handwritten note?
30
u/Kahnza 10d ago
I think they used AI to make their handwriting look better. A lot of people are self-conscious about their handwriting.

I'm not self conscious about my handwriting.
I know it's shit. It's been shit for decades now. Which is why I type up so many notes on the computer.

"we neeever use ai, we just went out of our way this one time to use the thing we're actively complaining about. We could have stuck to whatever we usually do which we swear is totally not just using ai"

It worked for them. As they said, a lot of people are seeing this. Engagement is all people care about. Good or bad. We're engaging with this business right now. All is lost.

100% people there (and here) are missing that it's just rage/click bait. It's like purposefully misspelling things, making an incorrect point, or just saying the opposite of what's real/expected in a post because you know people will show up and correct you. And that's "views" and "engagement".
It's shitty times.

Right, I accidentally came across a photo in my gallery that I took of a Christmas mug a year ago. I took the photo because the design was so cringe, just text in a calligraphy font and random dog clip art on a red background. Now I miss bad graphic design. I'll take it any day.

At work I often see someone's big notebook with AI potted cactuses on it and it makes me miss the somewhat cringe notebook covers from my time as a Ukrainian high schooler that had shit like pictures of random muscle cars and like "⚡Car 💥 Cool🔥SPEED⚡" on them.

I wish, when I got caught in a lie, I could just say "Oh, the irony" and expect that to smooth things over

the mildly ifurating part is person trusting an ai to axurately detect ai
13
u/Yup_Seen_It 10d ago
Fair, but OP did admit they used AI so it's accurate in this case!

u/ajgutyt 10d ago
"broken clock is right twice a day". its one of rare cases its right. most of those sites/apps just seem to pick ressults at random mot the time tho. marking real stuff as ai, and most obvious ai as human.

No, they don’t. Please don’t spread bullshit.

u/AstroPhysician 10d ago
They absolutely do the old kind at least. There shouldn’t be a “confidence” to it with synthid. It either is or isn’t watermarked

I’m pretty sure the software just checks for a digital tag that AI puts on the images it creates.
6
u/SpaceCore0352 10d ago
There are official, generator-specific detectors for OpenAI and Gemini, but the nature of the tag is a secret. Any other detector is just going off heuristics.

On a side note, is this supposed to be the next Willy’s Chocolate Experience?
5
u/blackjackgabbiani 10d ago
If they wanted a tidy note why not just open a blank image file and go to the text option?
If they wanted it to look like it was on paper, there are plenty of free to use photos of slightly crumpled paper they could use as a background.

Oh the ZeroGPT screenshot was in the comments of the post, not sure that was clear!

This is the same "AI pretending to be handwriting" font that I keep seeing on AI slop, once you recognise it it's hard to unsee

u/CoolGamerfrfr 2d ago
Imagine needing AI to write on a piece of paper for you. People like this literally cannot breathe air unless an AI said they should.

u/StoryAndAHalf 10d ago
At first glance it seems normal until you compare letters. Every ‘e’ looks exactly the same aside from very tiny size difference. So yeah, no wonder a person called BS on the note.
