News Strong winds and storms in central Queensland set to roll into weekend
Severe storm activity that has lashed parts of outback and central Queensland this week is set to continue into the weekend as the state's storm season begins.
A high-pressure system in the Tasman Sea will also cause isolated showers in the state's south-east to linger well into next week.
The south-east looks set to escape most of the storm activity, with smaller isolated coastal showers expected for the weekend in parts of Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

News Queensland’s LNP has trodden softly in government. It’s now baring its teeth over the power to break up workers’ strikes | Queensland politics
The giveaway that they know they've just fucked over the Queensland voter base is:
“You’re going to see a mammoth campaign by the Labor party,” he told reporters at a press conference at Newstead.
“It’s going to be a lot of mistruths and misinformation, and I think everything they will be able to say … we will be able to debunk with facts.”
Oh, and apologies for putting Lord Pocket Square's rude head front and centre on your screens like that.

Discussion We Need UnderSpeeding Cameras
So we all know the feeling on the highway. Ol' Margaret is hogging the left lane, driving at 80 km/hr down the M1, which forces everyone who wants to merge onto the highway to slow down to 70 km/hr from their original speed of 110 km/hr.
When you get past them, there is literally kilometres of free road unblocked by idiots and you can piss it down to Coolangatta at 110 km/hr.
We all know it already, if people like this were either banned from driving on the highway or just fined through the nose they would either piss off the highway or drive like someone normal.
So why not??

News Premier David Crisafulli denies forcing senior Brisbane 2032 Olympic executive, Cindy Hook, out of top job
Queensland Premier David Crisafulli has rejected suggestions his LNP government pushed Brisbane 2032 organising committee chief executive Cindy Hook out of the role, over concerns about its interference in the independent organising body.
Hook announced her impending departure, at the end of her four-year contract, on Tuesday.
Later that night, The Australian reported Hook felt “suffocated” by the Crisafulli government and had misgivings about its controversial insistence rowing and canoe events be held on the Fitzroy River in Rockhampton.
It was suggested in that reporting the LNP government would seek to have an ally installed to the role, and there were concerns in George Street about the amount of time she spent in her native US.
But, speaking on the Gold Coast on Wednesday morning, Crisafulli denied Hook was pushed out of the role.
“Her contract’s come to the end and the opportunity now is for the organisation to go to the next level,” he said.
“I certainly don’t wish her any harm.”
Asked whether there were concerns about the amount of time Hook spent outside of Brisbane, Crisafulli said that was “a decision for her” before pivoting to Brisbane 2032’s future operations.
“I guess the only response from me is you’ve got to say thank you for the service and for the time that she’s put in, and where the organisation is now,” he said.
“As often happens, the organisation now goes to the next stage with another leader with a different skill set. That’s a good opportunity for BOCOG [Brisbane Organising Committee for the Olympic Games] as a whole.”
They were similar sentiments to those Hook expressed on Tuesday when she made the announcement.
“The foundations for success have been well laid. This is the right time to hand over to a new CEO for the next phase,” she said in a prepared statement.
“I know Brisbane 2032 will deliver a Games that all Australians will be proud of, and I have every confidence the team will continue what we have started with a new leader.
“I look forward to seeing the Games vision brought to life and you can be sure I will be the greatest fan in the stands at the 2032 Games.”
Brisbane 2032 has already started a global search to find Hook’s replacement.
Asked whether the new chief executive should be a Queenslander, Crisafulli was non-committal.
“Well, that’s a process they’ll go through,” he said.
“I just want someone who wants to see the event be an outstanding success and build on the platform that’s been set and that she was a part of.”

News Bring Your Own Device in schools
I noticed this segment today on BYOD and was curious to get other people’s views on this topic. For example great schools like Reddam House in Sydney has significantly reduced tech in classrooms. Many GPS schools across Australia issue laptops which are completely controlled by the school. And then there are schools like St Peters Lutheran College in Brisbane which are BYOD and many students gaming and in porn during class. I feel strongly there should be a state law on no BYOD in schools as it harms children. What do others think about this? NSW has recently mandated changes to tech time in classrooms reducing the amount of time on devices.
I have found a school St Paul’s who is making the switch from BYOD to school issued computers. It’s interesting to read as it provides a good understanding of the reasons why they are making the switch. St Pauls move to non BYOD
