Moderator Statement Addressing Concerns About Censorship

We want to address the recent accusations of censorship.

We do not have an agenda. We are not removing content based on personal opinions or politics. We remove posts and comments only when they violate the subreddit’s rules:

https://www.reddit.com/mod/puertovallarta/rules/

Posts and comments that attempt to turn local discussions into debates about US political issues are not allowed. Topics such as ICE, BLM, the Epstein files, Trump, etc., have nothing to do with Puerto Vallarta. The world does not revolve around the United States. These threads consistently derail into arguments and stop being productive or relevant to PV.

We also lock posts that have clearly run their course - especially when they begin filling with repetitive arguments or off topic back and forth. Locking a thread is not censorship; it’s a way to prevent them from becoming dumpster fires.

The only posts we are currently removing are low-effort ones such as:

  • “Should I cancel?”
  • “Is it safe?”
  • Variations of the same question without any context or effort

We are currently receiving at least 20 of these per day. If we allowed all of them through, the sub would quickly become repetitive, cluttered, and largely useless for everyone

Additionally, on Sunday we removed several posts and comments containing unsubstantiated rumors and misinformation in order to prevent unnecessary panic. Allowing speculation and unsupported claims to spread does not help anyone and only creates confusion.

There has been a significant increase in traffic recently. Previously, this sub averaged about 40,000 visits per week. In the past week alone, we received 5.3 million visits. Our goal is to keep content focused, useful, and relevant to Puerto Vallarta, not to host endless circular debates between internet strangers.

It’s also important to note that we are volunteers. The mod team consists of two Mexican nationals and one permanent resident. We moderate in our free time because we care about keeping this community useful and informative.

If your post or comment was removed, please review the rules before reposting. If you believe something was removed in error, you are welcome to send us a polite message via modmail.

Let’s keep this community helpful, focused, and valuable for everyone.

Thank you,

The PV Mod Team

EDIT TO ADD:

Also wanted to mention that Reddit itself automatically filters some posts and comments, especially from brand new accounts or when its system flags something as potential spam or abusive content.

In addition, we have the subreddit set to filter content from accounts with very low karma to reduce spam and trolls using throwaway accounts. These filters are applied automatically and are not personal or selective. Filtered posts and comments go into a queue for us to manually review.

❓ Question - Pregunta Solo female, safe spot for dancing?

Hello! My friend will be traveling to PV alone and was looking for a place she could dance reggaeton solo and feel safe. Doesn’t need to be a hoppin’ spot, she just wants to dance. I’m out of touch with that side of PV! Any suggestions? Thanks!

Yelapa Visit

Does anyone know what condition the dock in Yelapa is today? Last time we were there it wasn't usable and we had to walk out into the water and climb into the boats. Waves and all. Not great for limited mobility folks.

Sharing our recent trip experience

This sub was very helpful in planning my trip, so I wanted to share my recent experience. U know we weren't in the main part of PV, but it is such a short ride there I hope it is OK to post here.

A friend and I flew from Phoenix last Thursday. Thank you to everyone who had explained to turn left outside the terminal and cross the bridge for an uber, as I wouldn't have figured that out myself lol. The ramp was pretty steep so I probably wouldn't do it with much luggage or mobility issues. A quick $12 ride got us to our hotel.

We stayed at Ocean Breeze in Nuevo Nayarit, just north of PV. It was a very nice, small resort with clean rooms and friendly staff. Our room looked over the pool and beach. Pool is open 9-9 which is longer than other places, and had a pool bar. Breakfast on site was decent and convenient. There are food carts within easy walking distance too, as well as the Marina restaurants. I liked this hotel because ubers can pick up right out front if needed. The room was only $300 for 2 nights which I thought was a steal for the view.

We walked to dinner at Maizul at the marina one night. The food and service were good, and their outdoor tables have great views. The ceviche was incredible.

The purpose of the trip was to take a tour with Finca 18. It was an incredible experience up to San Sebastian, and to 3 distilleries. Finca 18 has shorter tours on just their property too. The spirits were amazing, but meeting the people making these spirits made it even better. The history, passion and hard work that goes into creating them is inspiring.

We left Saturday just before the hurricane was supposed to arrive. If you have lounge access definitely go to the one near gate 10 and go downstairs where its much more comfortable.

I already can't wait to go back and explore more!

Art Prints in PV

Hi guys!! Thanks for all the tips for furniture. I got some outdoor items at Liverpool and a great sectional at Sofas and Silones. Anybody got tips for cool art prints? I was thinking I could hit up a local framing company for some cool frames? I guess the other option is find some here and bring them in a tube, but some local prints could be cool too.

Anyone staying there right now? What’s your experience been like at the Palace Pacifico? I’ll be there for the first time from Nov. 12–21 this year, and I’m curious how people are enjoying their time there (if at all).

Coati?

Hey we are looking to come next year for a vacation and we usually go to sandos Caracol eco resort instead but I'm really wanting to stay somewhere that is going to have animal sightings like coati...

Middle aged couple without kids, we live in the Vancouver area which is full of trails, rainforest, hiking, mountain climbing...

I'm not interested and sitting by a pool or beach for a vacation but would rather explore, eat some good food, and enjoy what the jungle has to offer.

What do you recommend?

❓ Question - Pregunta Hotel/Resort/Airbnb Advice for April 2027

We're 40-somethings planning a trip to Puerto Vallarta in early April 2027. We've stayed at hotel Mousai 3x and really loved it, but we're really ready for a change and want to stay closer to town so we can explore more of the local food scene. It was way too much of a trek from Mousai. We'd strongly prefer an adults-only property.

We'd like a quiet, luxurious, small resort or boutique hotel with a nice pool area. If we are not exploring/eating, our preferred activity is reading poolside with margaritas. We don't want to have to wake up early to reserve a pool lounger/play the towel game. This was literally never an issue at Mousai which is one of the reasons why we came back.

We've looked at Villa Premiere (non-AI), Hacienda San Angel, and Secrets Vallarta Bay. Not really sold on Secrets as it looks a little too big for us, but the price for AI is the same as non-AI at VP. Still, not sure if we'd take advantage of it since we want to eat off property.

We've also discussed an Airbnb, but we love a good pool scene with a bar. The other hesitation is that I love a chill hotel breakfast, but I know there are many awesome places in PV for this that we are missing out on by eating at a resort.

Questions:

  • Villa Premiere- too much of a pool lounger game? TA reviews seem all over the place. If we don't do AI are we going to regret it if we end up spending multiple days drinking by the pool?
  • Hacidena San Angel- How's the pool scene? Does this seem like the right property?
  • Secrets- what's the pool lounger scene? Is it a waste to stay here if we are going to venture off the resort for food?
  • Airbnb- Does an Airbnb/condo with an awesome pool/bar scene exist?
  • Are we going to be disappointed by ANY property after staying at Mousai? Is there a hotel/resort/airbnb we should be considering? Thank you for the help!

Hey all,

Wondering if anybody has ventured downtown today. Is it still all closed and boarded up, or are shops and restaurants open?

❓ Question - Pregunta Botox Recommendations in Puerto Vallarta

Hi everyone!
I’ll be staying in the Zona Rosa area and am looking for recommendations for reputable clinics or medical professionals who offer Botox in Puerto Vallarta.
I’m interested in hearing from anyone who has personally had Botox done in PV. Ideally, I’m looking for someone experienced who delivers natural-looking results.
A few questions:
● Which clinic or provider would you recommend?
● How much did you pay per unit or treatment area?
● Were you happy with your results?
● Would you go back?
I’d prefer somewhere close to where I’m staying, but I’m open to traveling a bit for a great provider.
I’d also appreciate any places you recommend avoiding.
Thanks in advance!

Staying for a wedding. Deciding if it’s worth the price difference for adults only? They both have nice balconies and such. The rooms seem fine.

HURRICANE SIMON MEGA THREAD — SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11

We're starting a fresh mega thread for Sunday to keep updates current, make the latest information easier to find, and prevent the previous thread from becoming too cluttered as the situation develops. Please continue sharing all Hurricane Simon–related questions and updates here.

Current Situation

Hurricane Simon continues to pose a serious threat to Puerto Vallarta and other parts of Mexico's Pacific coast. Conditions and forecasts can change quickly, so please follow official advisories for the latest information.

AIRPORT UPDATE: Puerto Vallarta International Airport operations have been suspended amid the storm. Reopening information may change, so check directly with your airline and the official airport website before traveling to the airport.

Please share verified updates and firsthand reports about:

  • Current weather, wind and rainfall
  • Flooding, road closures and power outages
  • Airport status and flight cancellations
  • Hotel, restaurant and business closures
  • Evacuations, shelters and official announcements

Residents & Visitors

Follow instructions from Protección Civil and local authorities. Avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from beaches and floodwaters, and check with your accommodation for its emergency procedures.

Government Shelters can be found here https://bahiadebanderas.gob.mx/refugios/index.html

WHERE TO GET RELIABLE INFORMATION

We'll use this thread for verified updates, local conditions, closures, cancellations and useful information as Simon develops.

Please keep speculation, rumors, and panic out of the thread..

Stay safe, everyone.

EDIT

We're trying to keep this thread focused on pertinent information, useful updates, and specific questions so everyone can easily find answers without scrolling through unnecessary comments.

Please avoid repetitive questions, personal anecdotes that don't provide useful information, and comments that don't contribute to the discussion. Unnecessary comments will be removed

Do not ask whether you should cancel your trip. Nobody can reliably predict potential damage or what conditions will be like next week. Check with your airline, hotel, and travel insurance to make the decision that's right for you.

Thank you for helping keep this thread useful and organized for everyone!

❓ Question - Pregunta Best place to stay overnight in Bucerias?

Wife and I are landing at Puerta Vallarta next month and going to drive up toward Tepic.

On the first day we land we expect to be tired and dont plan to drive too far. Is the Zona Dorada in Bucerias a good place to get a hotel and possibly walk around for dinner and maybe the beach?

Any advice appreciated.

Upcoming Trip and meetup?

Hi! Going to PV Nov 9-13th. I visit quite often but there's one thing I haven't done. It's the hike or trip to Yelapa. I'm figuring I'm finally going when the waterfall will be spectacular. Typically I go in March/April.

Anyone there on those dates want to meet up and do it? I'm there solo this time. I'm a good hiker, I'm in shape. I don't complain, and I'm always up for adventure.

If anyone else has any suggestions on things to do, let me know. I've done pretty much most of the common stuff. Zip lining, Boca to Las Animas, the water park in Nayirit, etc.

I'm looking for something new to me, something out of the norm for typical tourists. I'm here at least once a year and this trip is actually to get my citizenship.
