Memes/💩Post What is genuinly wrong with Queens? How are we all okay with this

So Queens looks at the following: GPA, MCAT, CASPER, ABS Top 3 from each section, and an early MMI.

Not only does it cost $220 to pay for everything, but you are put in a lottery AFTER which they will assess your things.

Take in the time it takes to work hard on your GPA, to study for the MCAT, for CASPER, how many hours people are preparing to do well on the Early MMI, just to have a small chance that maybe your name will get pulled and you'll be lucky enough to get assessed.

Am I saying other schools do it better? no im thankful that atleast we all have some sort of equal chance and that atleast they are transparent of the odds. But now they make us prepare for both Casper and MMI, and pay for both?? genuinly wtf. What happened to reducing socioeconomic barriers lol and making medicine accessible for all. Where is all this money even going? $1.32 million/year yet they can't increase seats either. This whole med process is suchhhh a joke lmao

Wtf was that…
Could not have been more broad/no nuance/ has nothing to do with any of the practice questions I’ve done.
Such an arbitrary test…
See you next year 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Staring blankly into space in Queens MMI ???

Okay I’m genuinely confused

So the recording starts and captures you reading the question, thinking, then answering. And we can’t jot down any notes.

So let’s say I want to speak for 5 minutes out of the 8 minutes I receive…. Does this mean for the first 3 minutes I’m just staring into the camera while deep in thought?

Like I just did the practice test and that felt so weird lol. How do reviewers watch that whole thing. This is all genuinely dumb asf

Let me get this straight

So I am prepping for a Queens MMI, but it will only potentially get reviewed IF I win the admissions lottery????? So like all of this prep and my videos might not even see the light of day?

Do I have this right? This is some bullshit

how to show hands???

How do I show my hands for the full MMI? Do I sit super far away from the computer? Do I put them on top of my head? Can I press the Next button if my hands will go out of the screen, or do I wait for the full 8 minutes so it automatically goes to the next questions?

Admissions Please share your admission success stories!

As implied in the title, I would love to hear stories of resilience from non-trads or people who got in after multiple MCAT attempts or after experiencing adversity!

Just feeling disappointed about my recent MCAT results and looking to boost my mood 💗

Admissions Queens/Ottawa MMI Answer Length?

Hi everyone! I'm preparing for my first MMI-style interview and could use some advice. While working through Acuity's practice questions, I noticed each station allows 8 minutes to answer. I've read that in-person MMIs typically give separate time to read and think before you respond.

Does this early-phase MMI follow the same format, or do the 8 minutes cover reading the prompt, planning, and answering all together? If it's the latter, how long would you recommend the answer itself be? Is it better to start speaking right away and make full use of the time, or to spend 1 to 1.5 minutes organizing your thoughts first?

If you've completed an MMI before, I'd really appreciate any insight you can share. Thank you!

Admissions Mock Interview

Hey everyone I am doing call mock interviews for only ten an hour. I am a fourth year medixal student. We can do a deep dive on the most important questions you should be able to answer. I will also send you written feedback while giving it to you at the end of each question.

I am also willing to review personal statements, letters of intent, and more for free. I am trying to be affordable for people who are struggling.

❔Discussion Do you ever just feel like....switching to engineering?

I've always had this thought what if I do biomed mech engineering escaping premed mess and maybe apply to med if my grades allow. Massive course load so it's not the best as something to get those insane high gpa on as a normal person 😔 idk though

UofT MD plagiarism check opt-out: does it actually affect anything?

Applying to U of T MD this cycle and noticed you can opt out of having your brief personal essays run through their plagiarism detection tool by emailing [md.applicants@utoronto.ca](mailto:md.applicants@utoronto.ca) before January 8. Why is this even an option? If there’s truly no downside, why doesn’t everyone just opt out?

Admissions are clubs necessary

Does it look weird on my application if I have no clubs at all? Like, I'm lowkey just not interested in any of the clubs offered at my uni, and facilitating clubs just isn't my thing. I'd honestly rather focus on ECs outside of school. Does that look bad on applications or anything? Idk, clubs just seem like such a common EC, and it feels weird not having any.

Just a second year wondering :)

Admissions What category of research is important for UofT?

I see a lot of people stress about their research entries for uoft. I barely have any research outputs that actually go into the research category of my abs (I literally have one lol and no pub). But I do have 2 long term research experiences that fall under volunteering.

I guess I’m just wondering if that suffices, even though there isn’t a direct correlation between research & an acceptance! It’s research experience but not in the research category of my abs!

🔮 What Are My Chances? ireland med with 3.63gpa and 505 mcat?

my dad is really pressuring me to apply ireland since this is my 3rd cycle applying and I was curious if anyone knew if my stats are even competitive for ireland med schools? i have really strong extracurriculars (got ubc interview last year with a low 86% so ECs were strong) so i think that will help my app and then I'm also honing down on my interviewing skills with a prep course. my main goal is canada obvi, but i genuinely cant go thru another cycle of applying here and need to know realistic chances of getting into a ireland med school before i pay the application fees.

thinking of applying to UCC, UCD, RSCI, UofL, and UofG. please let me know my realistic chances!

Admissions please lmk if i can drop a course

i posted this yesterday and it was crickets (which is fine lol just explaining the posting again). i will not do good in this course (3rd year), i can feel it in my bones. i've had a full course load past 2 years and this year i guess i'll have 4 classes this sem if i drop this. i'm IP for usask. will this affect my chances at other schools to the point i should stick it out or would you recommend saving the GPA? i don't mind taking 6 courses next sem, but i'm not sure if that makes up for a W.

4th year not sure what to do next

cGPA is a 3.99/4.0 (listing because grades wouldn't be a motivating factor for pursuing a masters)

i know i should be planning back-ups but im not really sure what to do. I like research but would want to do thesis based but i know thats 2 years and I don't know if I want to have to wait. and while i like research im not sure I can see myself doing that for life.

i like the idea of teaching elementary students even though thats a big pivot from medicine i know i can do teaching school but not sure if I should apply this year or in another year.

working as an RA or at community health organizations could be cool.

its hard being in 4th year not knowing what next year especially while im trying to maintain hope about this cycle.

i was wondering if anyone would be open to chat?

Driver license was expired for western kira is that fine?

I submitted my driver license and just realized that my driver license was expired. Is that okay?

Admissions Is it a red flag to imply you are interested in a certain field of medicine on med school apps? Or is it preferred?

I recently got advice from my professor who used to sit on admissions at a university years ago (which is why I am skeptical). They said that admissions look for applications where the student already has a "speciality" of interest (i.e., most of their research is in this specialty, their volunteering in the same specialty, etc.). Just wondering how true this is? I plan to start drafting my ABS over the winter break.
