General Discussion Berserker is the most incompetent predator in the franchise. Change my mind.
That bastard literally got beaten up by a weakened predator, only won because he was a superpredator, you know, brute force and blah blah blah, and died decapitated by a human.

Did you watch the same fight as the rest of us? He absolutely did not get beat up at all by the classic Pred and was tossing Royce like a baby when he figured out the heartbeat sensor. Only lost after being blown up by a belt of grenades, shot with a .308 sniper, and had his arm cut off

u/WILLISMITH345 1d ago
Beaten up, that was very wrong of me, but if the classic version was 100%, it would have received a real beating.

Yeah agreed on that front, classic likely got jumped by 3 at once then trusses up as a humiliation ritual for who-knows how long.
He put up a good showing but he was at a disadvantage the whole time.

I actually think he has a point here. The Classic had been crucified ostensibly for days. Was he starving? Thirsting? Did his shoulders work properly after being in that position for who knows how long?
He definitely started that fight at a distinct handicap.

We should refer to him henceforth as Predator Jesus.
He died so that Adrien Brody could live.

Super Pred did short work on Classic Pred, I remember it was a quick fight. Although Classic was impressive, he was outmached against Berserker.

Classic Predator had been strung up, starved and tortured for an unspecified amount of time. He put up a decent fight for being at such a disadvantage and probably could have won in a fair fight.

u/binokyo10 1d ago
Yes, he could have won in a fair fight. But saying Berserker almost lost to a weakened Classic is selective memory. I love Classic don't get me wrong, I wish the fight lasted longer.

It's not really selective memory, just going off of the available information to draw a logical conclusion. In the comic prequel to the Predators movie, the Classic Predator had been ambushed by all three Super Predators and captured. He was then beaten, strung up and starved for an unspecified amount of time by the three Bad Bloods(who were feuding with the Classic Predator clan). So he was always at an disadvantage and it's not out of the realm of possibilities that in a fair fight without having been outnumbered, beaten and starved, Classic Predator could have won.

u/binokyo10 1d ago
What are you doing? This is my point too. Classic Pred could have won vs Berserker in a fair fight, I said this too. But in his weakened state, he didnt stand a chance. I recently watched this film again and Classic Pred put up a valiant effort but he was not winning that fight.
1
u/ZharrNaboris 1d ago
You're the one who argued with me and seemingly over a point I didn't make. My point was that the Classic Predator could have won a fair fight and that he put up a decent one despite his disadvantage. That was it.

dude was the angry, stupid teenager of the Yautja we’ve seen on screen. Thought brute force could solve everything and that was how Naru got him (not discounting her intelligence or anything, she definitely could give most of the other Yautja we’ve seen a bit of a difficult time)
I don’t think the Jungle Hunter would have been so reckless, for example. Probably would have realized what she was trying to do. And he’s definitely honorable enough to fight Taabe 1v1 and not resort to cheating like Feral did after taking hits.

u/BlekSheep_ 1d ago
The level of incompetency that guy has lol.
Armed to teeth with cool gadgets, but doesn’t know how his own projectile works if he doesn’t have his helmet on.
Tries to take on a grizzly bear in a head on attack.
See’s Naru beat up one of the other young native men, lets her run off with her dog with a tomahawk in her hand.
Screams in her face and she manages to tear off one of the mandibles with her bare hand and stick it in his eye.
I think Prey’s got a refreshing setting, Amber Midthunder and Dakota Beavers are awesome in it. Beyond that. It feels superficial and it most certainly missed the point of why Jim Thomas created Predator.

Very much agree especially with your last sentence. My headcannon now to justify his terrible decisions is that Feral was mentally challenged considering his strange headshape. It helps me sleep a night haha.

I know it’s not the popular opinion of this sub so I try to lay back on the criticisms of Prey. It’s really awesome to see the franchise revitalised. But Dan Trachtenberg’s shown for me he doesn’t really know what to do with the IP beyond superficial things.
Changing the look of them. Building this over-arcing story where Naru, Dutch and Harrigan are all in frozen vats. Badlands felt like I was watching a star wars thing like The Mandalorian. Which is a shame because Predator has an identity within film language. That’s why it’s stood the test of time.

u/squiddybonesjones 1d ago
Predator fans have been starving for a very long time, so anything not spoiled will be consumed and praised.
But criticism is so important.
Dan is capable to at least not drive the IP off a cliff. But a lot of the design choices made for the franchise to me are more suited to be fan fiction. The core themes that make predator such a powerful film that are lacking. His films are predator by name not by heart.
Prey, badlands and killer of killers were good just not good enough.
None of those fulfilled the predator IP ethos in the original films for me.Comparing it to on a spectrum of one side Alien Romulus which was more fan service than anything else, and Predator Badlands on the other, new media should sit more in the middle.
I can already hear the straw man arguments coming but it is what it is.

I agree, prey, badlands and killer of killers was good but not good enough.

u/sambasim 1d ago
He probably had retard strength, because classic predator physically struggled with a bear in the comics lol.

Berserker hate gets to a point. He was arguably more competent than wolf and i say this as someone who likes wolf more.

u/CarlosH46 1d ago
Berserker dropped the classic Predator in less than 5 minutes and barely took a scratch.
This guy had over half a dozen mk2 frag grenades explode in his face and it did nothing to slow him down. Even after getting bashed in the head multiple times from Royce’s hammer, he had the wherewithal to switch vision modes to detect Royce’s heartbeat and target that instead of a heat signature.
Berserker had Royce dead to rights and only got stopped because Isabelle put a .308 round clean through his torso. Even then, he was still operating well enough to hit her in the shoulder with an off-the-cuff shot from his wrist blade at 30-40 meters.
Even disregarding the final fight, he was skilled enough to know where the group would exit the ship/cave and was already waiting for them.
Falconer and Tracker are the less competent ones, and even then that can be chalked up to being young (berserker is their mentor and this is their first hunt according to Word of God).

u/yautja-vs-xenomorph 19h ago
The classic predator was caught by three of them together, tortured, starved and water deprived for an unknown amount of time and to think he still went against a super predator and put up a very good fight just proves the point that the classic predator is better than beserk. Falcon is the only one out of the three which i respect, though the fight could have been slightly longer, but i am not complaining.

I think this is either the most incompetent Mr Black downplay attempt I've ever seen or its rage bait.
Even more egregious to say he is the most incompetent when he is literally one of the most competent. You people always love to completely leave out all the context shown on-screen & in supplementary material to the films. It's almost like you literally didn't watch the movie & don't know his lore.
He dominated Crucified & beat him with very little difficulty without even trying.
As for the rest of the random shit you said, I really don't even know where to start dissecting such a dumb statement when there are much more incompetent Predators like Scar, Chopper, Feral, Jotun, Oni, Pilot & Warlord that exist.

When did folks decide they are super preds.
Seems like a retcon. They are all regular preds.

I think he was Extremely Ego driven & that clouded his logic & reasoning. He was too cock sure & too full of himself he thinks he’s the most superior being in the universe.

I have said, a central theme of the series is that the Predators get defeated when their overconfidence and/ or concern for a "fair" hunt gives the humans an opening. The Berserker simply shows the established blind spots to an exceptional degree. I have also said, the Jungle Hunter definitely would have avoided Royce's trap.

No you right, all he did was aura farm, beat up a tortured dehydrated, starved predator then die to Adrian Brody… it was pathetic.

Lmao "He only won because he was a super predator" This has to be one of the dumbest statements I've ever heard in this community 😭
1
u/yautja-vs-xenomorph 19h ago
Agreed. He only won because he tortured, starved and dehydrated a classic predator for god knows how long and then decided to fight him. Also it says that it took all three of them to capture the classic predator, so one wouldn't stand a chance.
1
u/King-Slayer100 12h ago
No you completely misinterpreted my comment. Saying Crucified lost to Berserker because he was starved and tortured is ridiculous. Berserker literally has every advantage over him even if he was at Full strength. Berserker and Falconer were the only 2 that attacked him and only Falconer took damage. After that crucified fled into a waterfall then he got captured in a net then taken away to the hunting camp. So he basically got no diffed in a 2v1 so 3v1 would be a massacre

u/bojinglemuffin 8h ago
I don't think you watched the same movie. Jungle hunter is the biggest fraud of the bunch

u/Internal_Cesspool 6h ago edited 6h ago
Pilot Predator from Killer of Killers is FAR WORSE. Bro had a ship and still failed against a guy in a damaged plane.
Also what do you think about Feral? Dude literally forgot how his speargun worked and ended himself.

u/Gojifantokusatsu Yautja 1d ago
That's kinda the point though. Super preds relying on strength and more advanced tech over skill.

Not at all related to his skill/competence, but I think Berserker's also got the ugliest bio-mask. Guy looks like he has a fucking underbite

he was too arrogant and not taking his prey seriously or respecting them
out of the three super predators
Falcon was the only one who had any honor and died with it
