Moderator Announcement r/postpunk Rules Update [PLEASE READ]
Hi all!
As some of you might've noticed, we've recently tweaked the subreddit rules a bit. We highly recommend you read this to get a good idea of how things will be handled here going forward.
Rule 4
First of all, all music posts now require some form of additional commentary or context. This can be in the form of opinions about the song, memories associated with it, experiences seeing it performed live, trivia, etc. as long as is encourages discussion. This rule has been in place for a little while now, but we've recently adjusted how we'll be enforcing this. We request that users here include this somewhere on their posts, whether it be in the title, body text, or as a comment on one's own post.
Rule 8
Second, please do not post excessively, and keep to a maximum of three posts per person per day. This helps prevent the sub from being excessively flooded or spammed by a single user.
To cap things off, we've been getting a number of messages via Modmail regarding users having difficulty posting. This is due to an anti-spam filter set up via AutoMod that requires posts from new accounts to be manually reviewed. Don't panic if this happens to you! It doesn't necessarily mean that your post has broken a rule, and the moderators here will have a look at it as soon as we can, although it may take a few hours.
If you run into this issue repeatedly, please contact the moderators via Modmail and we'll help you out. We do try our best to approve users whenever possible.

Question: Who is in this photo from Urgh A Music War archives
Does anyone recognize this bass player? The timeline would be 1980 if it were someone who was filmed for Urgh A Music War. This was in WB's URGH photo archives that we had access to.
Thanks in advance!

The Walker Brothers - Nite Flights (1978)
Phenomenal record and song from 1978.
While this is not Post Punk. The 4 recordings on this album “Nite Flights” that were written by Scott Walker are allegedly influenced by what Bowie and Eno were doing, yet they take things further into what Post Punk became.
Highly recommended!
**The Scott Walker written songs on this album were “The Electrician”, “Shutout”, “Fat Mama Kick” and “Nite Flights”.

Thomas Dolby - Windpower
From Seeing Through The Airwaves: Thomas Dolby’s Windpower by Ted Mills
“The majority of the sounds on “Windpower” come from the PPG Wave Computer, an analog synthesizer “the size of a deepfreeze” that Dolby nicknamed “Henry.” For this song, its unreliable nature produced a bass sound with a swing-rhythm delay. The happy accident became the backbone of the song (and “…fitted so well into the feel of the song that I’ve performed the song live, on occasions, with only that bass sound and my voice,” he told emusician). For what could have been an exercise in minimalism, Dolby throws in all sorts of filigree: a flute here, a brass section there (both played by Simon Lloyd), synth drum tracks that he makes swing like the bass or shudder on the bridge. A lot more texture and variety happens in this song than most electronic music of the ‘80s would allow. Some of the track’s magic comes from a transitional period in pop music, right after synthesizers started becoming available and affordable to working musicians but before every band and producer bought them for studios and never got past the factory settings.”

Bill Nelson - The October Man (1982)
Bill Nelson and his E-Bow guitar…
This song by Bill is an absolute gem.
If you haven’t heard or delved into Bill Nelson’s recordings. He’s a treasure! There is a lot of stuff to listen to.
Have a look at his website discography. Lots of info in there from Bill himself.

Highly recommend!

Nancy and the Jam Fancys - Mirror my Melody
An Australian band, named after an acid trip that Lewis had with two pigs named Nancy and Jam Fancy... They remind me of Radio Birdman.

Cathedral of Tears - Together Alone (1983; unreleased till 2019)
Cathedral of Tears was a post-punk/new wave band heavy on the synths, formed by TSOL frontman Jack Grisham after leaving that band. They had an EP release in 1984 before disappearing for good. 2019 brought some demos recorded in 1983 out of the woodwork.

Walking into BBC Langham Place in 1981 to record a John Peel session (A 21-year-old's perspective)
People often ask what a John Peel session was actually like behind the scenes. Picture this: January 1981. You're 21 years old, walking into Studio One at Langham Place.
You've got a green Japanese Telecaster, a Premier kit, and BBC technicians wearing heavy brown overall coats who look at you like you're about to short-circuit a multi-thousand-pound mixing desk. You have exactly one afternoon to track everything live with zero edits or safety nets.
We thought those tapes were gone forever, but we've rescued and remastered the 5-track session, and it dropped on Bandcamp. If you lived through the era of taping the radio under your duvet, come say hello!

Redskins-Keep on keeping on
They got signed after "Lev Bronstein" a punk rock song but their mainstream LP was very much a ska punk album. Punk rock didn't really have a place in the 80's the existing punk acts turned New Wave and the local punks became Hardcore and had limited commercial success.

Recommendations for FAST post-punk
Please recommend me some fast post-punk bands. Stuff like Home Front, Schedule 1, early The Sound, Blitz, etc.
Stuff with post-punk instrumentation and sound-aesthetic but punk energy.
