Especially with both Popeye's inspiration for Mario and both each having an iconic arcade game, the people need to know who would win this battle of relatable protagonists, everyone's favourite spinach eating sailor Popeye or everyone's favourite plumber and carpenter Mario? Or they could be on the same team in a tag team match playa vs Bluto and Donkey Kong.

I wish for Nintendo to embrace their history of the Popeye inspiration of Mario more, Mario is still a distinctive original character there's nothing wrong with being inspired by something, it feels like Nintendo downplays the Popeye connection to Mario, for Popeye to be arguably Nintendo's best single-screen arcade game, and for Nintendo to literally no-sell it post-80s (apart from Namco doing a port for phones in the 2000s) even despite the factor of Nintendo having to renew the license it is more than worth it for them to do so being that Popeye is widely considered to be among the best 80s arcade games by 80s arcade-goers.

Specifically, it’s a book compiling Segar’s Popeye Sunday strips. I’m curious to see how it’ll compare to the way the Fleischer and Famous shorts depict the sailor man…

I haven’t had Popeye on physical media yet, so I purchased this Thunderbean Blu Ray out of curiosity. From the looks of it, it appears they only have the select shorts that have long fallen into the public domain.

With Paramount's ill-gotten acquisition of Warner Brothers, they will be acquiring a large backlog of early American animation. This includes the original Flesicher/Famous Studios Popeye theatrical shorts.

These shorts were sold off from Paramount to syndication in 1956. Then, thru a series of other mergers, they wound up in Warner Bros' possession by 1996.

What Paramount plans on doing with Popeye is yet to be known, though their track record with classic animation is not good. They still own theatrical shorts from the 1960s that they have yet to restore, and they own the Terrytoons that they hardly acknowledge anymore. (Historian Jerry Beck has had a tough time gaining permission to revive or restore them in any sort of way.)

I swear I remember an episode where the guys were fighting over her like usual, then at some point they realized it’s not worth it and walk off together as buds, leaving her indignant and alone. Google hasn’t yielded any positive results, so I thought I’d ask here. Am I cray-cray?

Fleischer Cartoons! just recently uploaded a high-quality scan of "Popeye Meets Sindbad" with more accurate colors and the correct ending audio compared to the 2007 DVD print.

1. Can you have the name popeye in the title if you are making a book?

2. Can some other food give him the power up?

3. Can I give him his own design with clothes hes never worn before?
