Hi, I'm an engineer student and I'm trying to create a new environment where impressionist art and jazz music meet, so that study and relax time will allow us to experience different situations of the past.

If you have any kind of suggestions, please leave a comment!

I wanted to make staying focused feel less boring, so I built Purrductive 🐱 using Claude & Codex

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone!

I have always found it hard to stay focused, and recently I came across Claude and Codex (life changer). I started watching loads of YouTube videos about vibe coding and thought I would like to  give it a try myself.

I had no idea how to build anything at first, so I started by making a website. From there, I wanted to try something bigger, which led to my first app, Purrductive

One thing I really liked about building my own app was that I could make it exactly how I wanted with the tweaks and improvement I could do by myself. I have tried several other focus apps before, but there were always little things I wanted to change. With this, I could add my own features, designs and animations.

I'm not going to lie, I spent a lot of time trying to figure things out and fixing stuff that I'd accidentally broken, but I've really enjoyed learning along the way.

Here's the app if anyone wants to have a look:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/purrductive-cosy-focus-timer/id6819199487

I'd genuinely appreciate any constructive feedback, even if it's criticism. I'm still new to this and want to keep improving both the app and my development skills.

Thanks everyone!

I stopped looking at the timer during Pomodoros. Focus got way better.

Every glance at 18:42… 18:39… pulled me out a little.

So I built a timer that hides the seconds and just tells me out loud when the break starts. Phone face down, done.

Curious: do you watch the countdown, or avoid it?

I made a small Windows focus timer that saves sessions as Markdown

I wanted a focus timer that stays out of the way, so I built one for Windows.

The character is the timer and stays above other windows while you work. You can name the task, set the time, pause and resume, and leave a quick note when you are done. Each finished session is saved as a normal Markdown file.

Tina Huang's Pixel Pomodoro inspired the original idea, especially making the character the main clock.

It runs fully offline and does not need an account. This is the first beta, so I would appreciate feedback, especially on setup and day-to-day use.

Focus timer stays visible while I work, I can name a task, choose a duration, pause or resume and add a short note when I finish. It saves each complete session in a markdown file

This is an early beta and the installer is not signed yet so windows may show a Smart screen warning. I would love honest feedback

Customisable Pomodoro

I made a custom Pomodoro shortcut with fully functional work time, break time, long break and sets. (I put warm up time but you can delete it if you don’t desire it) I put the automation that changes depending on the time.

Before you use it, go into the “Pomodoro” and “Pomodoro Check” shortcuts to change the calendar to your desired one.

This version should work with most iOS. The automation unfortunately only works with iOS 27, I can’t get it to work with older ones. But you are more than welcome to tweak it to work.

I made a minimal open-source Pomodoro-style timer that stays in the tray and never loses your session

I've tried a lot of Pomodoro apps and kept losing sessions by closing the window. So I built one where closing just hides it to the tray.

What it does:

- Set a work duration and a break duration (1 minute to 4 hours each, so classic 25/5 or longer 50/10 blocks both work)

- Press Start and it cycles work -> break -> work until you pause or reset

- Native notification on every transition

- Lives in the system tray: the tooltip shows the current phase and time left, and the menu has Start/Pause/Resume/Stop/Quit

- Closing the window hides it to the tray instead of quitting

What it doesn't do, on purpose: no accounts, no cloud sync, no analytics, no subscription. Your settings are one JSON file on your machine.

Free and open source (MIT), built with Tauri v2. Windows, macOS and Linux.

Repo and installers: https://github.com/Saffron-codes/nomad

Honest caveat: the macOS and Windows builds aren't code-signed yet, so you'll get a Gatekeeper or SmartScreen warning on first launch. Signing is the next thing on the list.

Would genuinely like to hear what your ideal work/break lengths are and whether you'd want a long-break-every-N-cycles option. That's the top candidate for the next version.

Is a physical Pomodoro timer actually worth it?

I've been trying to get better at focusing while I study and work, and I keep hearing people say to use a physical Pomodoro timer instead of just an app on your phone.

I do like the idea of having a separate timer sitting on my desk, mostly because whenever I grab my phone to set a timer, I end up checking other stuff. But I'm also wondering if a dedicated timer is kind of unnecessary when my phone can do the same thing for free.

I've looked at those cube timers and the basic digital ones, but I'm not sure which style is actually more practical. I don't need anything fancy—just something easy to use that helps me stay on track during study sessions without getting distracted.

For anyone who's bought a physical Pomodoro timer, did it actually help you focus, or did the novelty wear off after a while? And if you think it's worth it, which one would you recommend?

Edit: so after doing some more research and you guys' comments, I came across a very good short read that really convinced me to get one. So yeah highly recommend this article!

I'm making a shared study room you can keep open while you work

I'm the developer of Hearthside, a little desktop game where your character sits at a desk while you study. You can join a public hall on your own, or stay in your home and invite a friend. One computer is enough to try it.

The public halls run hour-long sessions, so they're longer than the usual 25-minute Pomodoro. At home you can study at your own pace; the timer pauses when you leave the desk.

I'd like to hear from people who use focus timers: does having a room around the timer make you want to settle down, or does the game get in the way? Installation and performance feedback helps too.

The Mac and Windows beta is free: https://hearthside-beta-livid.vercel.app/

I've used substantial AI assistance for the code and assets. It's still early, and I'm working through feedback from people trying it.

I made an earphone timer for quiet breaks between Pomodoro sessions

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I'm a college student in Korea and the developer of Nenne.

I built it because I wanted to take short breaks while studying without worrying about a loud alarm disturbing people around me.

For people who study in shared spaces, it could be useful for the break between Pomodoro sessions: set your break length, put on your headphones, and start the timer.

In Earphone mode, the alarm plays through your headphones and pauses if they disconnect. It supports wired and Bluetooth headphones. There's also a separate Speaker mode.

You start each timer manually; it doesn't automatically alternate between focus and break sessions.

It's available on iOS and Android. The Android version contains ads. Before using it in a quiet space, try a short timer with your own setup to check the volume and disconnect behavior.

iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id6778731628

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.leya.nenne

Happy to answer questions about how it works.

I built a simple, low-key focus timer for myself. No sign-ups or tracking, just a clean timer and synthesized ambient audio.

hey everyone,

i was looking for a really basic pomodoro timer with background noise to help me focus, but pretty much everything I found wanted me to make an account, accept tracking cookies, or load heavy audio files.

so I just built a simple web version for myself: https://app-tools-net.github.io/focuswave/

it's nothing crazy—just a straightforward 25-minute timer. instead of streaming pre-recorded MP3 tracks for the ambient noise, it uses pure audio synthesis right in the browser, which keeps it super lightweight and privacy-friendly.

right now it’s 100% free and has zero ads. but if it ends up getting a lot of use down the road, I might add some ethical, completely non-intrusive ads just to help cover development (absolutely no pop-ups, trackers, or loud noises that break your focus). but for now, it's just a clean tool.

Let me know if the audio generation works smoothly on your end, or if you have any feedback on it!

A focus timer that completes paintings

’ve been thinking about why focus timers often feel a bit abstract to me.
They can show minutes, streaks, or stats, but after a session ends, I sometimes don’t really feel like anything tangible has changed.
So I started exploring a different approach: what if each focus session gradually revealed or completed a painting?
The idea is that every session adds progress to an artwork. Over time, repeated focus turns a blank or unfinished canvas into a completed masterpiece.
I liked this metaphor because it makes focus feel less like “counting time” and more like slowly creating something.
I’m still thinking through whether this would actually feel motivating in daily use, or whether the novelty might wear off quickly. Curious if this kind of visual progress would make focusing feel more rewarding for others too.

A focus session inside a little desktop room, with task estimates kept separate

Thumbnail

I'm the developer of Send by Sunset, a desktop companion with a compact task list and focus sessions.

You can give a task an estimate, then choose a separate session length when you're ready to start. There are 15, 25 and 60-minute choices, plus a custom duration. That means a larger task doesn't force you into one long session.

During the session, the character heads to her laptop and works alongside you. She may take a break, but your countdown keeps running. Desk time is a separate record of when she actually works. You decide when to check a task off, and completion has an Undo action.

It isn't an automatic 25/5 Pomodoro cycle. You choose your sessions and breaks yourself. The room is there as quiet company, with music and background sounds if those help you settle in.

I kept out deadlines, recurring tasks and a bigger planner. The aim is to keep the thing you're doing now easy to find.

Some game models and music use generative AI, and AI tools helped with development and this post.

The game is Coming Soon on Steam: Send by Sunset on Steam

I got tired of juggling a timer app, a to-do list, and a habit tracker — so I spent 1 year building an integrated, local-first Pomodoro workspace [PomoPlan]

Hey everyone,

Like many of you, I've tried dozens of Pomodoro and productivity tools over the years. But I always ran into the same frustrating loop:

  • My timer was in one app,
  • My task list was in another,
  • And my daily habit tracking was in a third one.

Constantly switching context between three different apps was actually killing my focus instead of helping it. On top of that, most timers reset daily stats right at midnight — which ruined streaks whenever I worked past 12 AM.

So as a solo developer, I decided to build PomoPlan (built with Flutter):

Key features built from personal frustration:

  • ⏱ Seamless Focus Link: Start a Pomodoro timer directly from any task in your backlog.
  • 🌙 3:00 AM Day Boundary: The day doesn't roll over until 3:00 AM, keeping your focus streaks intact during late-night study or coding sessions.
  • 🎯 Eisenhower Priority Matrix: Automatically categorizes tasks by urgency and importance into 4 quadrants.
  • 🔒 Local-First & Offline: No mandatory account creation; your data stays entirely on your device.
  • 📱 Home Screen Widgets: Quick-start timer and task glance directly from your home screen.

The app is free to use on Google Play (with an optional 14-day trial for monthly, annual, or lifetime premium access): 👉 Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pomoplan.pomoplan (iOS version is currently in final App Store review).

I'd genuinely love to hear your honest feedback: What features are missing in your current Pomodoro routine? What would make this even better for your daily workflow?

Thanks for checking it out!
