Is this ugly?
I donβt create animals, but a client asked if I could make a flamingo to hang from their rearview mirror. This is what I came up with. Is it ok or should I start over?

Ugly, no. Quirky, yes! I love it!!
Edit: although I thought it was as a pin for a jacket or purse; for a rearview it might be a touch unbalanced. What clay did you use? I would probably change where the neck and head are. I would bring it more toward the body and leave less of a gap between wing and body - they also look just a touch unbalanced. Ever tried making individual feathers? Not as hard as it seems but adds tons of character. Did you look at a reference picture at all? That helps me with proportion.

I did use a reference photo, the one I liked the most had 3 different colors on its wings

Flamingos can have a lot of color in their feathers, so it's not wrong at all. π I was just thinking the individual feathers would give it more dimension. Do some in light and dark pink, white, black and white, black and pink...you get the idea. Instead of painting it, the clay would give the dimension. The shape is good, it's just a little off balance, like the head and neck are too far forward and maybe a touch thin in some places. It's awesome for a first try and something not in your comfort zone! You get good props for that. Keep going! Ps: I still love it!! π

I think the body shape is spot on, the beak is a little wonky though. Is there a reason you added the black and white to the feather instead of just going with all pink?
