Possible Paywall Zelensky: I feel betrayed by Trump

Yep, Trump is a traitor to humanity. He needs to be removed from office, impeached, tried and punished along with his crime family.
•
u/Oleeddie 7h ago edited 6h ago
This is very far from being just about Trump. It's about America which elected him twice and which doesn't get rid of him. Everybody's going to pay for this just like german nazis and non-nazis alike were made to pay for Hitler and Germanys wrongs.
•
u/TaterForming 7h ago edited 7h ago
Depending on how you tally it, it could be a few thousand, or just a few hundred, but overall Not a lot of Nazi's "paid" for the wrongs.
Sure Germany as a country paid and at least the second time around they decided to help rebuild and make sure it didn't happen again.
People hold up Nuremberg but only 180 of them were convicted.
ETA: I'm not trying to diminish the impacts of the Nuremberg Trials. They were significant, but they also where this rolling the NAZI's in by the trainload and trying them.
•
u/tehwagn3r 7h ago
Now, it's obviously true that most war crimes of WW2 never lead to convictions, but the number of convicted at the Nürnberg trials doesn't really reflect the reality very well.
Nürnberg trials were for the Nazi leaders and other high profile people. That wasn't where ordinary soldiers charged with war crimes we're ever tried.
Tens of thousands of Nazi war criminals and collaborators were convicted elsewhere across various Allied, German, and international tribunals after the WW2. The riff-raff just didn't go to trial where the important people did.
→ More replies (1)•
u/Bronsonkills 7h ago
Nuremberg was important but it ultimately was a show trial. I’ve fluctuated on the matter but in the end I think the Russians were right when they stated the allies just should have summarily executed them.
•
u/TaterForming 7h ago
I tend to agree as I've also had that same reconsideration for Reconstruction.
•
u/OriginalChildBomb 5h ago
Yeah, I think their supporters needed the horror of seeing a bunch of dead bodies of people that were 'just following orders.' I think they needed the social shame and stigma. Quick, brutal, and final. With zero tolerance for any excuses.
There was too much sweeping up of all the consequences, and trying to repair rifts, and not enough focus on making sure that these kinds of ideas and actions were torn out, root and stem. So fascism was allowed to continue festering, with people meeting behind closed doors, biding their time until they could make a more open return. And now we have the richest man on Earth doing Sig Heils at a fucking U.S. Presidential event.
Things like shame and humiliation are powerful psychological tools that can shape the way someone behaves, and sees themselves. There needed to be severe and swift consequences for the bastards. Especially the fucking Nazis and their ilk.
•
u/AdmiralCrackbar 2h ago
It's been 80 years since WW2, the reality is that no matter how good a job you did weeding the garden in that much time the weeds are going to grow back. You need to keep on top of it and, unfortunately, the world got complacent.

u/Oleeddie 7h ago
I was thinking about how the allies felt no need to distinguish between the good and the bad when bombarding entire cities and how Germany after the war e.g. was only allowed a very limited military. There would be no need for this if the enemy merely was the now dead or prosecuted Hitler and the nazi elite. Trump isn't just one rotten apple in an otherwise pristine bowl of fresh fruit.
•
u/TaterForming 7h ago

There would be no need for this if the enemy merely was the now dead or prosecuted Hitler and the nazi elite.
While I get that sentiment and share it to a degree, I think the Allies also had a hard-ish decision because they actually had the hindsight of 20/20. Just prosecuting/killing Hitler (he did everyone a favor) and their elite MIGHT have worked, but it also had an equal chance of martydom and then you end up with another guy that stirs the masses up against the allies.
I think the Allies had good enough sense to know "Let's focus on not turning the citizens into future fighters by helping make their lives better and rebuild.". We did the same for the Japanese.
The problem with eliminating people that caused the shit is you don't necessarily eliminate the ideas they had so you're better off reducing the conditions that caused the ideas to flourish.
•
u/syynapt1k 6h ago
Exactly this. Trying to eradicate an idealogy is a fool's errand and will eventually backfire. You have to address the root cause of people's grievances, which in the case of the US is twofold: an accelerating decease in the standard of living (due to income inequality) - and a misunderstanding of who is to blame for that (due to disinformation & propaganda).
The people at the top must certainly be held accountable via the justice system, but the population as a whole will suffer in other ways. They have to lay in the bed they made - the hardships of which will take decades (or even generations) to clean up.

MAGAts bitch constantly about the "waste, fraud, and abuse" of the Federal government. What they don't realize is that the federal government worked well enough that they had to invent conspiracies in order to feel they were justified in their hatred. They had the spare money and spare time to travel in huge groups to the Capitol on January 6th. The entertainment they want is not available to them, so they try to take down the entertainment that others enjoy. They literally spend effort to change the kinds of leisure they want just to prevent others from enjoying it. America is a victim of its own success. The more we had, the more they demanded to have... And the less they cared whether the shit they bitched about was even real!
We are collectively the fattest, dumbest, most intellectually lazy society in world history. We are like yeast fermenting- poisoning our atmosphere and getting drunk off our own waste until we poison ourselves to extinction. The only upside is the the world will be better off when we have spent our last nickel and cannot threaten other countries any longer. I just hope we (metaphorically) implode soon. All I can do is apologize to the rest of the world who we encouraged to depend on us. We promised them loyalty, protection and justice. Then we stabbed them in the collective back when their guard was down. America may have never lived up to the hype it lavished on itself, but who could have imagined we would become such a malignant cancer to the rest of the world? I would have never brought children into this world if I knew they would have no future- and that our own government would be responsible for it. I really need to go apologize to them too.

We will never see justice for Trump. Even if he is arrested and sent to prison the moment he steps out of office, he will have gotten away with so much crime, misery, and suffering for 80+ years. The only thing that would do almost any justice is if all his assets were seized and his name was erased from everything, but that will never happen.

Heard the most horrifying theory on Pod Save America today about what part of Putin's gambit might be. Putin devastates energy infrastructure in Ukraine going into the winter (Trump considers Russia's refineries to be off limits but not Ukrainian power plants, maybe). Ukraine becomes unlivable in the winter leading 10s of thousands or more of Ukrainian refugees to flood into Europe just as Europe is going into elections. The far-right (pro-Russia?) factions are swept into power across Europe in reaction to the Ukrainian refugee crisis and aligns with Putin or at least abandons efforts to constrain him.
Hard to imagine more of a horror story than that.

Most EU countries have been quite fine with Ukrainian refugees. In my own city, I don't know anyone who opposes them, even among far right voters. It's primarily Muslim immigration that drives the rise of the far right.

The Telegraph reports:
Volodymyr Zelensky has said that he feels betrayed by Donald Trump, and warned the US president was not acting on the “right side of history”.
“It is a pity that we are losing a strong partner,” the Ukrainian leader said on Wednesday amid an escalating public clash with his American counterpart.
Relations between Kyiv and the White House have sharply deteriorated after Mr Trump agreed on Friday to waive sanctions on Russia to import diesel.
The US president has been pressuring Ukraine to halt its strikes on Russian oil refineries, blaming Kyiv – not the Iran war – for rising energy prices. On Saturday he said Ukraine needed “a new president”.

I see this in every post lately - help me out - what should I do? I walk outside my apartment what do I do next? To fix starlink? To fix trump? Should I walk down to the gun store? (its nearby!).
I know in smaller countries it can be a 4-10 hour drive to their counties capital - assuming I have pretty much no money how do I cross the 2500+ miles to protest?
I think the reason I can't quit my job is I might not get another one with ageism in recruiting - so what next? financially I'm just barely making it here and I know a fair amount of Americans who are in this boat.

Human beings make decisions based on what they believe will give themselves the best outcome. If the choice is between "fight, and I believe I will lose things from my life without accomplishing anything" and "keep my head down," everyone will keep their head down who can't afford to lose their job/family/friends/etc. If it's "fight or die," people will fight.
Part of this comparison has to give. Either you get people to trust that they won't lose their livelihood, or you get people to believe they'll suffer even more if they don't fight.

I hate Trump and everything he stands for, and I blame every Republican from Congress down to the individuals for where we are today…
But, our govt systems regardless of how shitty they might be, are not completely broken.
And as far as we are aware, there are still free elections. Yeah, America picked Trump, we fucked up and it’s caused a lot of pain here and across the globe, but some of his actions are legal even if they are taking advantage of the letter of the law.
We have an election in less than a month, that will decide the power of one of the coequal branches of the govt that can check the power of the president and potentially reign in his more globally impacting actions.
That is how our govt functions.
So, people aren’t going to do anything until after this election because that’s our first tool before drastic measures. If the election is tampered with by Trump, Congressmen not seated, or other such things, then you may see calls to action… but not before.
Because their is no advantage to doing it before the election.
For other countries who hate what we’re doing, petition your own govt to cut ties, protest your own leaders to take a harder stance against America. You are your own sovereign countries and don’t have to wait for America to take action. Do it yourself, and we’ll try on our side as well the way we know how.
•
u/DrEzechiel 6h ago
The fact that Trumo can operate without checks and balances, even legally, as you rightly say just shows what a deeply flawed country the USA is. •
u/Diarrhea_Beaver 6h ago
if the democratic party win, will they actually do what needs to be done?
Thats a big no for me dawg.
Over the kast 10+ years, we've learned a ton of unfortunate things regarding our so called checks and ballances and their over reliance on the opposition or minority party's ability to enforce ANY sort of consequence for running the executive branch unilaterally as a dictatorship, but one if the wirst developments was that while some democrats seemingly "can't" do anything to fight a fascist takeover, even more of them sinply won't.
Theres a ton of self serving reasons as to why, but when all is said and done, it turns out politicians on both sides of the asile are only marginally more willing to criminally prosecute the criminal actions of their colleagues than American cops are.
So, yeah, in laymans terms, theyre gonna do absolute fuck all as far as punishing those responsible for attempting to install a full blown fascist dictator who previously led an attempted coup.
•
u/R3cognizer Maryland 4h ago
You said it yourself, a lot of us Americans think both sides are bad, and of course they do. So many of us are either too ignorant to notice or too privileged to care that one side is clearly far, FAR worse than the other and cast their votes accordingly. I get it, the Democrats don't have strong leadership and leave a lot to be desired, but that's not an excuse to just allow the party of fascism to turn this country into a dictatorship. I can only hope that the economic pain we're currently experiencing taught enough people a lesson to take more personal responsibility for their votes.

Unfortunately he and his country are dependent on an "ally" for mobile internet service and strategically vital information, whose leader has only their own political survival as objective.
The issue in Ukraine is geopolitical interference, with Trump not wanting to upset Putin generally and with the diesel supply contract in particular because he's trying to soften the impact of fuel prices on the midterms for the GOP. It is to expected that Trump will try to prevent any Ukrainian attacks on Russia, he's dependent on the diesel supply contract.
The actual network in play there is Starshield not Starlink, upon which it is based, a Government Defense ISP constellation supplied by Spacex. The Government has contractual control over Musk as regards Starshield. He has to obey their instructions, the Gov paid for that service so they could control its usage.

I mean I never voted for him or believed he was a man of his word or even competent but yea, I also feel betrayed by his orange ass.

Trump said Americans should be ok with a little pain bc of how important it was to disarm Iran and then as soon as he saw the poles changed his mind.

And , who wouldn't? Already, it's been well established that MAGA media influencers ( Glenn Beck ) had there base believing that President Bidens military aid to Ukraine was a stepping stone " US troops on the ground ". Having personally witnessed Trump supporters in 2020 waving and selling Russian flags at Trump rallies , l can tell you the favoritism for Putin among MAGA people was once quite present. Safe to say , the mainstream media hasn't done a sufficient job of holding Trumps promise of peace between Ukraine and Russia within 24 hours after reelection.

He’s no fool, he never trusted trump, he’s playing chess not checkers and hoping his words can sway the upcoming elections.

Wrong. He was never on your side Zelensky. I’m sure he knew it, but held out hope that there would be safeguards in place to stop the betrayal from happening.

I mean, you are being betrayed by Trump. For the upteenth time. If it makes you feel any better, a lot of the American citizens also feel betrayed by Trump.

Join the club. There, sadly are only a few hundred thousand MAGA voters out of the 77 million that voted for Trump that feel the same way.

I respect the hell out of him for trying to put asside his feelings and play nice for the sake of his and our people, but he's learning the hard way what lots of other people have already found out: sucking up to trump accomplishes nothing. He will throw anyone under the bus at any time if it benefits him.

The world is generally feeling this about America as a whole. The county has failed its own citizens, its allies, and has completely lost its way.
