The Patriot Act, DHS, ICE, John Roberts and Samuel Alito, the Iraq War… even his conduct and the people in his administration broke down a lot of political norms because they were part of a 60-year effort to set up permanent minority rule in the U.S. after the Civil Rights Movement. Trump would not have been able to seize control of the GOP had they not primed their base so richly for him.

Honestly, as horrible as it sounds, he actually had more of a balance between his unlawful atrocities and his image of caring for the people. Like he's someone who will finish fights his dad started and enrich himself through some ideas, but still try to give us some carrot slices. That is because the U.S education system doesn’t talk about most of the fuck up shit we did to Native Americans. The Trail of Tears was one of the worst, but since the country was founded atrocities have been committed against Native Americans either by independent citizens who received little to no punishment for it or the U.S. Government who justified it as in the country’s best interests. The American Indian Wars are the collection of so many conflicts that stretched from the 17th century to the end of the 19th century with massacres, forced relocations and genocides occurring throughout it. Yet if you ask an average citizen if they know anything about it they will scratch there heads confused, while a slightly more “enlightened” citizen might talk about Custer and the Battle of Little Bighorn, with them potentially not understanding the context and viewing Custer in a positive light.

The difference is that Andrew grew up and lived in a different time. There was no concept of genocide. Slavery was supported by the Bible and therefore moral (it still is supported by the Bible). Women's suffrage. Child welfare. So many concepts that took a lot of fighting and conversation to progress society just weren't part of it yet.
He may have still been a shithead by the standard of his time, but Trump knows better. He grew up and has lived in an era that has provided proof of concept that all this progress is good. That killing millions to take their land is terrible.
He doesn't have an excuse other than being a piece of shit.

Abolition, specifically abolition as a Christian movement, was centuries old by the 1830’s. Yes, there were people who used the Bible to justify slavery in America, but there were just as many or more using the Bible to decry slavery.
The bounties he put on Native Americans were called “barbaric” when they passed.
Moreover, Jackson participated in hundreds of duels during his life. It wasn’t illegal yet, but dueling had had a bad reputation for hundreds of years. It was considered the lowest of the legitimate ways to settle a dispute in Jackson’s time.
Jackson was an asshole by the standards of his day. He was not a product of another time; the dude fucking chose to be an asshole.
