Yup, America is trying to pull Canada apart - then wonder why we have a problem with them.
29
41
u/Biggieholla 14h ago
It is propaganda. They are trying to label us as the bad guys. They are stoking the flames to convince their maga base that Canada is and always has been trying to screw America.
14
6
u/QuietParsnip 13h ago
And when the election doesn't go their way they'll point to these 'warning' as justification to go after Canada. "Hey, we warned them, and look, we didn't win, they obviously interfered, so we have to protect ourselves."
7
u/WorldofNails 14h ago
That would be a hard row to hoe, though. 57 years experienced and Canada has been only the best neighbor and trusted friend. I don't know anyone that feels different. Sadly, I have to defend a Nation other than my own because we're the bad guys.

u/Dangeroustrend Canada 13h ago edited 13h ago
His base literally eats this up and believes every word of it
We’ve had these disputes under every president, democrat and Republican. It’s your America first and American exceptionalism that is the cause of this
4
u/EntrepreneurTop5670 13h ago
Including their ridiculous religious hokum they refer to as “Manifest Destiny”.
American politics is totally fucked up by billionaires buying elections and the inclusion of goofy religious beliefs.
1
u/sharp11flat13 Canada 8h ago
American exceptionalism
American exceptionalism consists largely of Americans’ belief in American exceptionalism.

u/mactac 15h ago edited 8h ago
I've noticed lately a lot of warnings about Canada not to interfere with the elections in the US, with no evidence, no explanation. It almost seems like a setup - keep warning about it to build up suspicion, then when the midterms are lost actually explicitly blame Canada for it, and do something to "get them back" for it.. somethign they have been planning all along. Or projection.
37
u/Cruyelo Canada 15h ago
They've also been arresting people at the border and accusing Canadians of election fraud. They're just planting seeds for future bullshit.
I wouldn't be surprised if they invaded Canada by claiming "it's not an invasion, we're just securing the border, it's your fault for cheating in our elections".
12
u/Tim_Soft 14h ago
My wife, from the US (we married in the 90s! 🙂) is in Florida right now because her uncle died a few days ago. She understands why, as much as I love her family, I was afraid to go with her.
15

4
u/spocknambulist 13h ago
“It almost seems like a setup”? Yes, this is the plan. When they lose the midterms it’s going to be Canada’s fault, and we’ll suffer the punishment.
3
2
u/Fyrefawx 12h ago
They are doing this to justify when they do it to Canada (which they have already done and continue to do). They are meeting with and backing separatists in Quebec and Alberta.

u/supercyberlurker 15h ago
Abusers often use Projection and Victim-Blaming.
1
u/Ok_Flatworm_3855 15h ago
I kinda hate the abuser metaphor. I see it a lot and don't get me wrong it's pretty accurate but don't anthropomorphize a government. I feel like it gives them the chance of redemption. Because people can change but an autocratic war machine doesn't feel it only sees dollar signs because it's made up of corruption and greed
16
u/Everyones__Therapist 15h ago
You have it wrong I think. Do anthropomorphize governments. All institutions, groups, and movements actually. They are all human super-organisms, and social and psycho analysis is frequently surprisingly applicable.
1
u/Ok_Flatworm_3855 15h ago
Fair input. I agree on the analysis bit the reason I disagree is that humanizing the current administration in the face of the last few years only serves to help them get away with it. Nobody gave the same grace to Germany during the trials and they shouldn't do so now. Humans can change and grow. These monsters only know how to destroy and slander so their government body is the same..
3
u/Everyones__Therapist 15h ago edited 13h ago
Humanizing is different than anthropomorphizing. Humanizing implies softening, sympathizing, viewing gently. I'm not saying to do any of those things. That doesn't mean the model of organizations as quasi-human organisms that behave according to human social and psychological laws is wrong tho.
I think it's a common but regrettable self-defense mechanism to DEhumanize acts of monstrosity, but the reality is that humans can be monstrous.
1
u/TheMalibu 15h ago
The same grace wasn't given to the Nazis. Germany however, has been given the opportunity to rebuild and make amends.
11
u/supercyberlurker 15h ago
Oh I was referring to the ambassador.
He is using the same tactics abusers use, and should be called out on it.
4
u/Ok_Flatworm_3855 15h ago
Ah fair play. Thanks for explaining. Like I said I see the metaphor a lot and it gives the current administration to much humanity lol
3
u/supercyberlurker 15h ago
No worries I get it. I see similar discussions about anthropomorphizing AI inappropriately too.

Can I proffer something?
Canada has deeper ties to the U.S. than most nations. Subnational governments have official offices in cities in the U.S.; execs work with subsidiaries on both sides of the border. Governors routinely meeting with their Canadian counterparts, and it's commonly popular in the US northeast, but also the US west. The Governor of California often meets with leaders from BC and Ontario.
Canada has deep ties to the U.S. and they are all going around the US ambassador. The previous Trump ambassadors to Canada worked well with Canadians and had the respect of Canadians. They were meeting with Premiers and federal officials. They had formed close ties with Canadian industry leaders. For Pete, it hasn't been the same and he's largely an outside both in Canada and the United States and that has undermined him.
I suspect he's getting a lot of pressure to better handle issues, and he's not. He hasn't become an effective mediator and go-between. I think he sees himself getting sacked in the near future.

Kind of difficult for Canada to keep it's nose out of America's business when we keep sticking our arse in their face.
What a disaster of a timeline. The Republican Party needs to get rolled in this election, and in 2026, to the point they either cease to exist or completely change leadership and policies.
4
u/Feral_Sheep_ 15h ago
That's what happened in 2006 and 2008, though. They just came back worse than before.
3
u/PhatCatTax 14h ago
That problem was that rural Americans connected to the internet and Fox News / Sinclair group had already bought up all their little rural "independent" radio stations.
Basically a bunch of idiots learned how to use a keyboard.
3
u/Feral_Sheep_ 14h ago
That problem still exists. The propaganda machine will start blaming the incoming Democratic Congress for everything going wrong within nanoseconds of the election and the rubes will eat it up.

Because Canada does politics way better than us?
Because the Canadian government doesn't protect pedophiles like us?
Because Canadians doesn't have immigration control going around killing their own citizens?
Because Canada actually has a health care system that doesn't exploit their citizens and actually wants to help them?
Ah. I get it. You don't want Canadians to actually to speak common sense to American citizens to wake them up.
Fuck off. I stand with Canada.

Country that forcefully inserts its nose into the politics of many other countries tells those other countries not to do as they do.
So is Canada a weak, not-even-real country from which the US needs nor wants anything, or is it a country capable of manipulating and taking advantage of the wealthiest, most powerful country on Earth? It's both, depending on which side of their mouths they're speaking from.

That recent attack was probably one of the most influential moves Ukraine had made in their war: shut down the social media influence of Russia. I am thankful they are enabling us to have a slightly more influenced election.

u/Exciting-Record8101 Europe 15h ago
An immigrant from the Netherlands being in US politics and being ambassador to Canada is, on the other hand, great according to Piet! Poor Piet, who somehow forgot how to spell his own name upon moving to the US.
After his dismal showing here in the Netherlands during the Republicans' previous presidency, where he amply demonstrated his inability to hold any form of public office, sending Piet to Canada is just insulting. Which is probably intentional. I wonder if Piet is smart enough to realize that, or if he thinks he's actually supposed to be a real ambassador now.

u/ShadowPostr 12h ago
I think you mean sign. The petition isn't really a vote. Elizabeth May said that they multiple petition signatures by 4 -- they are sure they can find 4 Canadians who agree with the petition, but chose not to include their name. That said, it's more than 1-million.
The minimum has been long passed. The House will have to hear the petition and provide feedback or action within 45 days of closure. So, we should know what they want to do about it by NYE.

u/sailriteultrafeed 14h ago
Canada should build a wall. I'd be working overtime to disentangle Canada and the US. The US is an abusive partner and should be broken up with.

u/Theotherdeadmeme92 Canada 14h ago
A lot of people over here including me still have hope that this can end with Trump and things can be salvaged from there. If the midterms go to shit though separating ourselves further will probably be the best course of action.
