They did not. But this is something that is implied every time a straight guy is a homophobe.(Hegseth a while ago was also gay according to many Redditers)

TBF, the degree to which he's fetishizing "manliness" and masculinity RN heavily suggests that he's in the closet. I have never found a normal heterosexual man that does what he's doing. Notice also the significant number of manosphere morons that have been talking like Hegseth does for a while, and have pretty much all but explicitly revealed they're gay by stating bizarre shit like "It's gay (meaning "bad") to have a girlfriend".

And to be quite clear, I am not saying all homophobes are gay, or even worse, that all gays are homophobic. Far from it. This isn't about gay people. It's about repressed people. This is a discussion about how the victims of repression usually end up contributing to the culture that fucked them up.

There's definitely something going on where people whose sexuality is repressed by their environment end up being ludicrously over the top "anti" while signs of that sexuality are positively dripping from them. Repression is a shitty thing, and it leads to exactly these kinds of outcomes.

In Vance's case, supposedly he's described having homosexual experiences though I've never read anything specific. Hegseth is weird. Thiel is also weird but at least is semi-open about it. Yet... supports more repression?

I don't know what can be done about it. But let's not pretend it's not happening.
