STARS STADIUM TOWN HALL

Post image
• Upvotes

🏒❌ PUCK OFF, DALLAS STARS!

On Sunday, November 1st, Revolutionary Front DFW, DSA North Texas, and Sunrise Dallas will host a town hall on the Dallas Stars’ proposed Plano stadium. This taxpayer-subsidized initiative would funnel $700 million to a massive corporation, while burdening the city with hidden costs, increased congestion, and significant debt.

With election day right around the corner, and the future of the stadium on the ballot, it’s essential that we equip ourselves with the facts, so we can convince as many people to vote NO as possible. Please attend for an afternoon filled with education, discussion, and free food!

🗓️ Sunday, November 1st @ 1:30 PM
📍Haggard Library, Genealogy Program Room (2501 Coit Road)
🍿 Refreshments provided!

Parker road closure

Parker was closed completely west bound this morning just past Preston. Coming home I see it’s still only opened up to one lane. Anyone know what’s up? Hoping not to be delayed on the commute tomorrow morning

Halloween Night Events in Plano/Collin County?

With Halloween on a Saturday night this year, I am looking to make the best of it. Does anyone know of any public Grown-Up Halloween parties/events happening on Halloween night in Collin County? My friends and I are going to the Oaklawn Halloween party on October 24th. However, we are still figuring out plans for the 31st. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Looking for a loving new home for a very sweet cat

Hi fellow townsfolk.

Life circumstances are shifting, and with an upcoming move and some other things going on, we're unfortunately looking to rehome our cat, Bano (pronounced kinda like U2 singer Bono, but it's Persian for "Little Lady," I swear). Our new circumstances won't allow us to keep her.

We adopted Bano from the Plano Animal Shelter in September of 2017, when she was just six months old. She's nine now and is becoming an old lady in some ways, but still acts like a kitten in others.

Bano is a hodgepodge of breeds, including Bengal, tabby, and assorted mystery cat (our best guesses, since we don't actually know or particularly care about her pedigree). She's also polydactyl, meaning she came out of the box with extra thumbs and claws. She's a big girl at 14 lbs (down from 18, so we're very proud of her weight loss), and she's genuinely one of the sweetest, gentlest cats you'll ever meet.

She is an indoor cat, never bites or scratches, loves belly rubs from absolutely everybody, lets pretty much anyone handle her (and is super gentle with kids even when they yank on her tail), and would happily spend her days curled up against someone while snoring. She's affectionate, trusting, and honestly a little dumb, which of course makes her all the more lovable.

A couple of things of note are that she eats prescription urinary food to prevent crystal formation and has a history of UTIs, so she'll need someone willing to keep up with her dietary and veterinary needs. The good news is that as long as she can hide her face in a shirt or someone's jacket, she's always on her best behavior for the vet techs.

We'd really love to find her a home where she'll be safe, comfortable, and thoroughly spoiled. She's a wonderful companion, and while we're heartbroken to have to give her up, we want to make sure she ends up with someone who'll love her as much as we do, in a home where she can be happy and comfortable.

If you're interested or know someone who might be, please DM me (PM me? What's the difference??). Happy to answer questions and share more pictures.

A letter to all realtors

We recently sold our house in Plano (moved elsewhere in Plano) and here are some notes for all realtors:

1. Not every house is vacant. We were still living in our house, when you send a request to show our house to your client. We then spent an hour running around and straightening things up and then take our pets into our vehicles and leave. It's a hassle but we did it because we knew it only took one person to see the house. When your client walks through the house in less than five minutes, they are either not serious or you or didn't do due diligence to make sure the house was a fit for their needs and it's frustrating. If they are just lookers, take them to vacant properties.

2. No shows. We had several times where a showing was scheduled and then nobody showed up during the window. Once again, we cleaned, straightened, got the pets out of the house and went somewhere else. I understand that occasionally someone gets sick, etc.. but then cancel the showing so we know. Even more frustrating to do all that work and nobody shows up.

3. Some people work from home. During our sale, I was working from home. We made every showing work, sometimes I would be taking meetings in my car on my laptop with my dog trying to climb on my lap. See item 1 & 2 above.

4. Arrive in your scheduled window. If you schedule a showing from 10-11am then don't just try to walk in the door at 9:15 and act surprised we are still there. Likewise, if you don't show up to the house until 10:55, don't be surprised when we return at 11:15 and you are still showing it.

5. Know how to get in. Twice we had realtors show up with no idea what the combination was to the door lock. They both rang the Ring doorbell which I answered and I could unlock the door for them but come on, that embarrasses you in front of your client.

6. Lock up when you leave. Six times the realtors just left and pulled the front door shut and didn't even attempt to lock the door and once they left the garage door open! Treat the homes you are showing like your own, luckily nobody broke in while we were out, but had they - you better believe I'd be giving your name to our insurance company for restitution.

Our realtor was as appalled by this behavior as we were (thankfully) and he reached out to each of you individually. On one no show the realtor told him "They canceled this morning and I forgot to cancel the appointment". Your primary job as a professional realtor is to handle showings - be better. I asked our realtor if we could charge a $50 refundable deposit when booking a showing. If you don't cancel at least two hours before hand or are a no-show then we keep the money. He laughed but told me there are some people he doesn't think should be realtors.

I'm sure everyone will say not me, etc... and I don't expect a reply - it's a throw away account so I won't see them anyway. If you are a realtor and guilty of any of the above though - do better.

25F wondering where to make female friends

I’m 25, living by myself in central Plano & it’s been forever since I’ve had a female friend my age. I literally just want someone to try new activities with (like going dancing or to local events) who’s on the same wavelength mentally and also down to study together, discuss ideas, possibly travel one day. I can make friends pretty easily one-on-one but struggle to open up in new group settings. The few friends I have right now generally enjoy spending time with me but I just feel very disengaged & like I don’t naturally click with them… so hanging out feels like a chore on my end.

- I’ve tried Bumble BFF (extensively), Timeleft, and gone to some Meetup events with no luck.
- I was considering taking some arts/crafts classes but I’m currently a bit financially stressed as I’m between jobs. Not trying to create a new paid commitment.
- Most people I know with solid friend groups are still in touch with people from college, high school, etc who also live in the area (not my case).
- I tried going to certain cafes regularly but honestly struggle to focus consistently in that sort of environment.
-I currently have a physical injury that limits my ability to walk a lot/do sports, so things like pickleball might work but are tabled for later..
-I don’t want to drive far all the time (like into Dallas) just to meet or hang out with someone. Also, I rarely drink
-I’m creative & get along best with other creative people! Need conversation with substance / doing meaningful things together rather than just going out to eat, shopping, other mundane things that just pass the time/burn money
-Currently job searching so I have plenty of free time. I just can’t think of what to do to meet more women my age given the conditions above

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, it would really be appreciated!! I am seriously stumped right now and have been going insane in my apt for a while… lol

Crochet Groups

I'm fairly new to Plano and I recently picked up a hobby in crocheting. I hear that there are several guilds and other crochet groups but I wanted to start my own so it isn't something that is demanding or something that I'd feel bad about if I didn't attend. The club welcomes knitting, sewing, embroidery, cross stitch, ect. We had our first Zoom meeting yesterday just to get to know everyone and the number one thing that the members discussed was a very relaxed club to make friends and work on projects together.

We spoke about themed nights like holiday night where we work on projects together for the holidays, swap night where we swap fabrics or yarn... is this something that the community would be interested in? The club is free and we're planning our first in person meet up in just a couple of weeks. Please message me if you're interested. If there are clubs like this let me know if you're in one, I'd like the opportunity to crochet and craft as much as possible. For our club there are no fees or anything it's completely free.

Plano runners -- Can you recommend a running coach?

I've been a runner off and on for 30+ years and have been struggling to get back into shape dealing with various injuries. I'm considering trying a running coach to help me get through the rough patches and wondering if anyone here has experience with any of the local coaches, good or bad. Since I'm over 50 I'd need someone who works with adults and not just kids. TIA!

Collin County Republican Precinct Chairs organize to steal elections

What I learned from Collin County Commissioners Court today: there is a concerted effort by pro-insurrection Republican Party of Collin County precinct chairs to toss out Collin County’s voting machines in favor of of hand counted paper ballots. Just imagine a half-million ballots hand counted, hand counted only by Republicans, to steal elections for Republicans, of course. And they are saying the quiet part out loud, describing the plan in public.

Highlights from the Preliminary meeting:

Consultants, financial experts and city leaders presented preliminary findings to the City Council related to the proposed redevelopment at The Shops at Willow Bend. Information included updates on traffic, housing values near a possible arena, funding options and safety response from Plano Fire-Rescue and Plano Police.

The following items were approved as part of the Consent Agenda in the Regular Meeting:

BOB WOODRUFF PARK SOUTH SIDEWALK
The City Council approved funds for a new sidewalk at Bob Woodruff Park South. The project will connect existing sidewalks and park trails from East Park Boulevard to the East Park Boulevard Bridge. The sidewalk connection will improve access to and from Bob Woodruff Park South and surrounding areas.

TXDOT GRANT FUNDING

There was a tire thief last night in Plano. These poor people had to wake up to this mess. I hope justice is served. This will be an unexpected cost of thousands and in this economy!? I hope the police are able to find them.

31M Anyone want to group up for Dark Hour in Plano on friday or Saturday 16th/17th?

Hey everyone, I've never posted here before, but none of my friends want to do haunted houses this year. I'm wanting to check out Dark Hour in Plano soon. Anyone interested in buying a ticket for the same time slot and heading through together so I don't have to go solo? Shoot me a message!

Anyone have experience with Maxim Hair Transplants?

I guess asking from a male perspective. I’ve been told it’s a no shave procedure, so I’m paying a bit of a premium, but I’ve been told it initially not noticeable (then hopefully noticeable when it grows out!) I know another option is Turkey, but perhaps it’s worth it to stay in the area if I know they can be trusted

TLDR anyone have experience with Maxim Hair Transplants? Or have another suggestion for a place locally that can do a no shave procedure?

Any Colorado Avalanche Sports Bars?

Google is not turning up any results, maybe this isn't a thing for hockey like it is for NFL teams where there are dedicated bars for visiting teams.

edit: Thanks for not being too nasty, I knew it would be on the TVs, I just meant if there are any NHL team bars like there are NFL team bars. For example, I went to a Patriots bar with a buddy who had Drake Maye on his fantasy team, and I was wondering if there was anything like that for the Avs.
