All the more necessary with the new dedicated lanes. Feel free to add your own rules!
"We need to talk about bus etiquette"
With thanks to Lady_Groudon, the OP:
I'm an employee and I'm not trying to be mean to you students but ever since classes started up and students are back the PAT buses have been unbearable. When the bus is empty it's mostly fine to do whatever but when it gets crowded you need to show some consideration. I know not everyone is used to public transit so let's talk about some things OK?
5a) if the bus is crowded you have to push past people. I'm sorry I know it's rude, but we're all crammed in here, if you don't move I have to push past you. Don't give me dirty looks if you're blocking the exit and I need to get off, and don't stand there whispering "excuse me" like a scared mouse when you need to get past someone. Human bodies can survive being rudely jostled a little. Don't get pissy when we inevitable have to be squished together, and seriously, just talk to the person next to you if they're in the way or something, it won't kill you.
6) if you miss your stop it won't kill you to walk an extra block or two from the next stop, calm down.
7) if the bus has to stop for a bit to safely let a wheelchair on and get strapped in, and you have to give up your seat, this is your fault for sitting in the accessible seating if you do not need it. If the extra time makes you late for class, this is your fault for not planning on any wiggle room on your commute, not the disabled person's fault. If you are unnecessarily sitting in the accessible seating, it's your responsibility to pay attention and make sure if someone who needs it gets on, you offer them your seat.
8) get out your wallet or card or however you plan on paying before you step up onto the bus and fumble with it in front of the fare box. We all should have bus passes but if for some reason you need to pay with cash, get on last so the driver can shut the door and start driving while you do so.
9) if the bus is crowded, don't put your stuff in the seat next to you. If the bus is crowded, move to the window seat. Don't block the seat next to you. I get it, nobody wants to sit with a stranger, but we all need to get somewhere, we all suck it up. On the flip side, it won't kill you to ask someone to move their bag so you can sit down.
10) Sometimes a bus is so crowded legitimately nobody else can get on. It happens. It is OK. Usually the next bus will be around in a few minutes. Please consider waiting for it instead of trying to crush everyone on. Sometimes we have bus bunching and an empty one will be right behind it. If missing this bus will make you late, you should start planning your schedule better so you have more of a time cushion getting to class. Public transit is not always exactly where and when you need it to be.
11) If you sit next to someone when the bus is crowded, and then a lot of people get off and more seats open up, you can move away to an empty seat. I promise it's okay. You're not going to hurt their feelings. You both want the extra space.
12) Don't sit right next to someone if there are empty seats elsewhere on the bus, what the fuck
Please I'm asking you to think even a little about space and time efficiency, and other people's comfort. A billion trillion people use the PAT bus system every second, we all want to get through it as painlessly as possible.
Also this is just a tip from me but if some rando is trying to engage you in conversation you definitely 100% have zero interest in, just tell them to fuck off and put headphones in. You don't owe strangers a conversation and sometimes weird, creepy, entitled old men ride the bus and scope out shy college girls while they're there.

Anybody got any recommendations for easy, gimmie classes at Pitt? I need up to 6 credits and senioritis is gonna be in full swing. I'm seriously considering just taking a bunch of PE classes.
Btw, I heard that Russian Fairytales got a lot harder.

The topics, the homework, the tools, the lecture, and club banners. I go to the Greensburg campus, everything is AI. I have to create questions and responses that get graded by this spark AI. My ethics class shows us AI Facebook reels about how AI works. My senior level class the professor said that all the homework and lecture material was made using AI. Everything is AI or they treat us like middle schoolers. It's so exhausting there's no escape from it. How can they even justify charging 10k and more for this level of education.
Is this just a satellite campus issue? Or this is a bigger thing happening all over Pitt?

Assuming I’m accepted into Pitt as a transfer, will I be likely be able to register for class on such short notice ? Someone said classes fill up rly quick
Ochem II
Physics II
Calculus
+ one more idk yet
Those are the classes I would need to take to make sure I’m back on track. Just trying to get a bases because I’m investing time trying to get to know some professors I was recommended to get involved in research so I don’t have to wait till the start of next year, but if I can’t register for classes I’ll just be fucked.

Hello,
Has anyone taken CS 1660 with Dan Mahoney? I see his RMP has really high and positive reviews but just wanted to get opinions on how people feel about the class in general. I am not really that good at systems design style programming so I was wondering how heavy the course is and how challenging people found it to be. Also, what language does the course use? Does it have a lot of exams?
Thank you!!

On Pitt’s own website, I’m seeing so much conflict about the process of trying to get one of your finals rescheduled if there’s 3+ during a 24 hour period. Some of it says to submit a form ONLY if you can’t work out a time with any professor, some of it says you absolutely MUST submit the form and not to work it out with your instructor.
Which is it?? I already have a professor who is willing to accommodate but do I really have to go through this annoying process of documenting it??

Has anyone taken classes at CCAC and transferred the credits to Pitt? Would you recommend it?

For anyone who had Arnab for Physics 1 (algebra based), which exam did you find was the hardest?
We have 4 exams and we just took our second one and I found the second exam to be hard.
Any thoughts?
A big thank you to anyone who replies.

I am a prospective transfer. Currently majoring in neuroscience at WVU. Before WVU I’ve taken upper lvl bio and gen chem + physics classes at Montana State, which were genuinely difficult (at least the upper lvl bios). Now my classes this semester at WVU are kinda hard - especially my NS, but def manageable. Just wanna get an idea before I dedicate to a transfer. Note: if you wanna know more context of transfer I have another post. Thanks :) pls don’t hate on me 🙏🙏

I’m honestly so disgusted rn I just ordered from True burger and asked for a black bean patty. I took a few bites out of my burger and then realized that it didn’t really look like black beans but thought it was a beyond burger. I’ve never had this happen to me before but I’m almost positive that was like ground beef. I’m literally crying rn I haven’t had meet in six years not once. I’m so upset with myself I should have checked before but I guess I’m asking what are the odds that true burger would have used a beyond patty instead of a black bean?

Anything easy/interesting please! I have some extra space in my schedule, and I though might as well minor in History. I have already taken HIST 0100 Western Civilizations and HIST 0600 US 1877.

Did anyone else get prompted at their doors in south Oakland about IDT energy? They told me that DLC was charging me extra and had me sign up for IDT energy to avoid those fees (had a hard time saying no, that’s on me) and I was wondering if it was legit

TLDR: I'm at a branch campus and one of my profs is using AI and linkedin Learning as lectures instead of actually using their knowledge. I'm not sure how to report it since I'm not in Oakland
Since Pitt changed their AI policy to let professors use it on a case by case basis, I have had one of my core professors proceed to use and "abuse" it for almost 90% of their job. They used in in their emails to respond to my questions I have emailed them, made our 8 question midterm using AI and has resorted to using it for assignments both in and out of class, as one of the classes he's teaching they simply are not qualify to teach it (it's dealing with ethics in computing). I tried to ask the ombudsperson for help, but they just told me to go and find division chair, but I'm afraid that it'll get back to me since the school is so tiny. Recently, they fell and hurt their knee requiring surgery. So they moved classes to online with zoom lectures, but it is looking very obvious they have used an AI script and they are simply reading off of it. I think that this is technically a violation of the school's policy regarding it. They're a nice prof, but since they just have completely stopped teaching and have outsourced everything to other people. I know that this is somewhat common for intro classes or for classes at larger schools, but they only have to teach maximum 120 students total for an entire semester, and several of the other students in my class have also grown tired of it. I'm largley unsure of how to go about reporting this as i view it a waste of my tuition and I have felt that I've learned practically nothing the past two years.
Hi there!
I had heard about this summer program from a class that I'm in and was wondering if anyone here has, or knows of anyone who has, been through the experience before? I'm curious about maybe taking Ecology lab + lecture, but would love to hear about any and all courses someone may have taken. Outside of academics too, I'm curious about the day-to-day life, dorms, food, etc.
I know this is kind of a big ask; I just truly can't really find any resources at all from former students in recent years who have gone through the program about their thoughts and experiences there. Would love to hear any thoughts at all, thanks! :)

Personally, I have chosen not to use AI for writing essays. Out of curiosity, how much are you using it for assignments? It seems like a lot of my professors have major concerns about AI being used for papers.

My situation is a bit unique, so I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read this through in advance. To start, I attended Montana State University my freshman year but transferred to WVU at the start of my sophomore year due to family matters. I am majoring in Neuroscience, and my first few months here have been disappointing. To briefly touch on the social aspect, I feel the campus culture generally pushes me in the wrong direction. I don’t feel I’m surrounded by students who want to learn most of the time, and it wears on me. It would be much easier to get through this if I felt my professors and administration were better qualified, but that's not the case either. Out of my 5 classes, only one professor is actually decent. Most of my professors are also new and have little to no experience, which makes it hard to learn or want to be in class. The classes, too, are all structured in a way that requires daily attendance, which I don’t mind, but when I have to go home and learn the information anyway because the professors struggle to convey it. I am intending to go into premed, so I have really been overthinking what two transfers would look like, even if they were for good reasons. I also feel like if I’ve transferred, I have totally wasted my time here as a result of my ignorance. Just to mention, my grades are OK, but they did take a hit during my second semester at MSU due to family and mental issues. Overall, I still have a 3.64 and will likely have at least a 3.8 for this semester at WVU. I think that gives me a decent chance of getting in, right ? I actually did apply yesterday and sent in transcripts and wrote a good personal statement. Figured I might as well have the option since I got a free application. Anyway, sorry if this is really long and a bit unorganized. Would love to hear what people think, though. Maybe someone has transferred from WVU. Feel free to dm me too if you don’t want to comment. Thanks again.
