Rainbow Bridge RIP Lucy Pibble
Lucy (posted about her last week) is now at ease.
We had exhausted all non-invasive diagnostic options over a multi-month period and decided to let her live out her best life before taking her in for euthanasia.
We took her today.
Last night we took her for a picnic and twilight walk in her favorite park. We walked her until she didn't feel like it any longer then headed home. We all setup in the living room and told her stories and cuddled her.
My wife and sons came with us this morning and were all in the room when she passed. When the sedative started to take effect she nuzzled up close to me and laid her head in my lap while stroked her ears. She had such velvety ears and loved them to be pet.
My sons grew up with this dog since they were 2yo and 4yo. This is their first experience with death of a loved one. It was hard but we did it together. We explained to them how we were bringing Lucy relief as she was showing signs of being ready (stopped eating, started to become a bit restless, very low energy).
We've probably taken her on near a hundred camping, offroading, fishing, swimming, and hiking adventures over the years. She went to Yosemite, Pinnacles, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Tahoe, all up and down the Eastern Sierra, etc. She loved our road trips together and we loved having her.
She was gentle and social until the very end. Greeting our sons' friends every morning as the came by for breakfast or to head off school, meeting the Amazon and USPS delivery people, running out to greet my motorcycle riding buddies when they came over. Naps in every room with her best feline friend Steve. Naps outside with her five chicken friend with whom she's share strawberries and treats.
Her story arc took her from a dumpster in a busy shopping center in San Jose to all the places we adventured around the west. She lived a rich life.
We love you girl. Rest easy.
Your loving family.
