How do I do Surface Scans??

Hi!! So I'm fairly new to this game and I just bought a Nadir surface scanner and started a mission mapping Triton, but I don't know how to start the scan. It just keeps saying "scan pending" and "This scan cannot be started yet." What am I supposed to do? Thanks!!

Somewhere in the info there is an altitude you must maintain. And you must move as it scans as you travel. So.

Descend down on the planetary body you are instructed to. Watch until it says “scanning” or whatever the wording is….and then fly along maintaining that altitude.
