Yup! Right that right there. I wish more than just a handful of children's authors were substantive. Some adults never read more than a social media post or a menu; some read Shakespeare. Some kids have the patience to sit still and let good quality literature sink in, and some kids get the wiggles and maybe are not up to it. It is the lucky kid who finds Watership when he is ready for it to really sink in.

All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

Read it as a child, loved it. Re-discovered when I read it to my son a few years ago. Such good stuff.

Ha — I was going to reply "Morning Silflay", and I google'd to make sure I'd remember the word/spelling properly, and one of the top links was to a painting of that name on /r/watershipdown … made by you 7mos ago! I like that painting too.

Agree! I could see this picture as the cover art for Watership Down book cover.

Hazel-rah and the boys out for a little silflay.

Having a nice dawn silflay.

I just finished reading Watership Down to my son three nights ago — my dad read it to me when I was his age — and it was immediately what I thought of us well.

Next up is the movie, which I have never seen. All I know about it are the tales from friends who rented it and were disturbed by the unexpected violence. Though knowing what we're in for it'll hopefully not be that bad.

It gets a bit gory for a kids’ rabbit movie, and dark with the Nazi rabbits. I keep trying to figure out when it’s a good time to let my kids watch.

Love this piece, but also equally traumatised by the Watership Down vibes hahaha

It's certainly a story that stays with you 😁

Richard Adams wrote that other book Plague Dogs. It is very good as writing, but it is one of the most depressing and bothersome books I've ever heard of and not read. After seeing some movie clips on Youtube, I got 10 minutes into the book and noped back to the library as fast as I could, like running through stop signs and stuff. Please DO NOT apply your artistic talent to the themes and stuff that happened in THAT book. Oh boy.

My partner loves bunnies. I would buy this for her.

All those light rays are virtually parallel. Took me about 70 years (and Google IIRC) to figure that out. Ditto for the shadows.

Is it supposed to invoke death & dying because that's what I get from it. Not a jab. Praise.

Well done piece.
