Statistics Bryce, Kyle and Marsh all had an incredible June

Needs to learn how to throw from ss to 1b still

Slowest Double Play Turner
Tough nickname for the guy, but he's earned it
7
u/samthemuffinman Bryce is my real dad Jul 01 '26
he's been coasting off of his name and thought we wouldn't notice!! smh
2
u/Otterable Jul 01 '26
I do wonder if him fielding backhand has contributed to it at all. Like it ostensibly reduced his errors but the transition from ball in glove to the throw seem like it would naturally be slower.
3
u/SubtleNotch Jul 01 '26
The defense would improve so immensely if Stott played SS and Turner played 2B.
3
u/R_Hunt BPD: Bohm Personality Disorder Jul 01 '26
Except Stott has gotten better defensively. Or worse, depending which metric you prefer. He's supposedly immeasurable according to analytics lol

Putting Harper and Turner on the same side might be painful to watch?

Bohm wasnāt very good in June either
2

Was still much better than his April at least (I went to check this time, .250 in June but 3 for his last 23, ouch)

He went from hitting 300 balls a day in bp/cage down to zero, and he couldn't figure it out.

Didnāt fans want to trade Marsh last year? So happy heās proving them wrong.
61
u/felis_scipio John Kruk Jul 01 '26
I never got the hate for Marsh but heās just blown up this year and I did not expect that. Glad heās getting the all-star votes, itās deserved but itās lame Harper and Schwarber didnāt.
48
u/XSC Bryce Harper Jul 01 '26
What Marsh is doing is what we all hoped Bohm and Stott were by now.
1
u/KnightofAshley Bryce Harper Jul 07 '26
if Marsh does this for the next few years I think overall you have to be happy with the bunch overall. Stott is still super streaky but Bohm is a good hitter, just should not be in the middle of the lineup, and Marsh turning into one of the best hitters in baseball.
17
u/FantasticFinance6906 JƩsus Luzardo Jul 01 '26
Schwarbs will still make it, but heās not on the runoff ballot because Ohtani was the NL leading vote getter and he automatically made the team. Bryce should get an alternate selection but we shall see.
5
u/Farg_Igorg Jul 01 '26
If Harper doesn't get the selection, I feel like that'll just add to the "not elite" chip on his shoulder, and I'm ok with that too.

u/Sirkuhh Currently wearing Lieberthal pajamas Jul 01 '26
Its always reassuring to hear someone in the stands chirp him at the plate. Gone ball% skyrockets after that happens

3
u/genghisjahn Jul 01 '26
Right, and lots of people will say, "well he played bad last year at the start, can't hit left handers...yada..." And yet the org kept him and what do you know? He turned out to have a pretty good year this year. He is legit improving in many areas. Is it possible the people who work with these players daily and pay them know more about their long term potential than us fans?

u/Pukelits Ranger Suarez Jul 01 '26
Well to be fair, he wasnāt and had never played like this. With the benefit of hindsight itās great heās here and playing well.
12
u/FantasticFinance6906 JƩsus Luzardo Jul 01 '26
Well, heās never played quite like this against LHP but his numbers against RHP have been very good the past couple of years.
4
u/EagleswonSuperBowl52 Ranger Suarez Jul 01 '26
His highest ops against righties before this year was .864
He has a .920 ops against righties so far this year. Yes heās been good against righties in the past, but never like this. He already has 2 more homers against righties this year than he had against them all of last year
3
u/Pukelits Ranger Suarez Jul 01 '26
Yea heās always been a good platoon player but until this year he had really proven to struggle as a full time player. Donāt get me wrong, I love Marsh and am glad heās here but to act like people last year were stupid for wanting to upgrade over a strong platoon guy is in itself, stupid.
1
u/KnightofAshley Bryce Harper Jul 07 '26
He had streaks, but never got it together fully...power numbers are the surprising number. Since his send down it looks like he finally put it all togther.
2
u/rawbface Jul 01 '26
Since 2023, every offseason I see comments that we should trade Marsh. On reddit, in sports media, and on other socials.
Maybe that means he's always had value as a trade piece, but damn if he isn't a big part of our success right now.
2
u/DylanMartin97 Jul 02 '26
I'll be the first to admit it, after his post season (and his season performance last year) I was incredibly skeptical and pushing for a trade to get a stronger bat in the outfield. But I'm glad I was proven wrong and he has done more than enough to provide stats to show he was working something out on his down seasons. This is what I want for a player who is better than how they're playing, to be better and show why they deserve their spot.
If he would've had another sub par year and they didn't trade or remedy that come next year that is entirely on the office imo.

u/callmechimp Long Live John Kruk Jul 01 '26
This comes from regular exposure to left handed pitching, Marsh would have played like this earlier in his career if he wasnāt platooned so much. Already faced more LHP this year than he did ALL of last year and his OPS against LHP has gone up 150 points.
Crazy what happens when you just let a guy face his problem and adjust.
16
u/Right-Future3904 Jul 01 '26
People still act like he is definitely awful against LHP due to his career stats which I donāt fully understand. People/players change. I feel like continuing to judge present players based on years old data is a bit of a flawed process. At some point there is a ānew normalā, right?
8
u/Manymarbles Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26
What Ive learned since watching baseball a lot over the last few years is that people online, especially the ones burried in stats, think that players cannot and will not ever change. Once they are who you are, you will always be that person. No if's and's or but's about it. The stats are what they are and there is no human element involved.
5
u/callmechimp Long Live John Kruk Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26
I think stats are king at the end of the day, but when you have a guy who is hovering around .300 for career average against righties and stellar defensive capability, maybe you let him work against lefties and figure it out.
1
u/Ruut6 Jul 01 '26
I've been saying this for years. He generates effortless power with his swing. Exactly the kind of guy I want to let develop against LHP. He's clearly starting to see the ball out of the hand much better.
2
u/Ruut6 Jul 01 '26
The funniest part about this is Kyle Schwarber was the singular worst hitter vs LHP for years when he was young.
It's almost like reps do matter.
0
u/rawbface Jul 01 '26
The funniest part to me is when a stat-head goes through a long process just to come to a conclusion that's kinda common sense.
2
u/Leather_Ad3521 Trea Turner Jul 01 '26
I think this in particular was on Topper. He was way too obsessed with lefty righty matchups, so didnāt give Marsh a chance to develop vs left handed pitching. All the sudden Mattingly comes in, heās playing every day, and heās crushing. Obviously he took a leap vs right handed pitching too, but when you tell a guy your an everyday player sometimes they act like it, and when you tell guys you are a platoon bat sometimes they act like that.
1
u/KnightofAshley Bryce Harper Jul 07 '26
I don't want to throw Rob under the bus(while I did have issues with some of his stuff) I feel Mattingly is brining a little of that HOFer insight and feeling to the team and doing things others would not as he has been through some of this stuff himself.

u/Icy-Refrigerator-517 Jul 01 '26
No. He had ample ABs against LHP and he sucked. He deserved to get platooned. He made adjustments, finally, this year and doesn't suck against LHP. If he wanted to play everyday sooner, he should've made the adjustments sooner. It had nothing to do with "increased exposure to LHP" and everything to do with him.
2
u/NJHitmen Do cars have knees? Jul 01 '26
If he wanted to play everyday sooner, he should've made the adjustments sooner.
Maybe I'm reading your comment wrong, but the way you stated the above makes it sound - inexplicably - like you believe pre-2026 Marsh knew exactly what he needed to do in order to have better success against LHP...but actively decided not to do those things. Which is one of dumbest takes I've ever seen in this sub. And that's saying a LOT.
I have so many questions. I mean...are you seriously suggesting that he rolled into the 2026 season and just suddenly decided to start hitting well against LHP? Do you actually think MLB players can simply turn it on and off like that? Why is the sky blue? Why do we drive on parkways and park in driveways? Please advise, and thank you for your attention to this matter.
13
u/jagne004 Jul 01 '26
Some people out there are calling Marsh the new June Schwarber.
0
u/NJHitmen Do cars have knees? Jul 01 '26
Well, you know...some people out there eat crayons.
To be clear: I pray that Marshie's development is real. And I don't think his play this season has been a fluke. I've always felt like he had this sort of potential. But I need to see him producing at or around this level for more than a couple of months before I believe it. Been burned too many times by watching guys have hot starts and then fizzle out by August or whenever.
2
u/jagne004 Jul 01 '26
The power and improvement against lefties has been dramatic in the last 2 months but overall he has producing at nearly this level since last May. His ops+ has been at 138 for his last 150 games at this point.
1
u/NJHitmen Do cars have knees? Jul 01 '26
Good observation. I should've looked at his pre-2026 numbers.

1
u/KnightofAshley Bryce Harper Jul 07 '26
Not worried about Crawford...look at J-Roll in his rookie year...looked awful at times...as long as he adjusts during the season is what matters and I love he tweaked his stance...it makes no sense to be having a speed guy bend down like he did.

Could someone explain to me how Harper has a higher OPS than marsh despite putting up a worse average, hr, and rbi stat?
13
13
u/aww-snaphook Jul 01 '26
Harper's on base percentage in june is .405 while Marsh is .345(18 walks for Harper's vs 4 for Marsh is the biggest difference). Slugging percentages are a lot closer in .589 for Harper and .604 for Marsh so its really that OBP that is making the difference.
12
u/NedrysMagicWord Malachi McCarthy-Kruk Jul 01 '26
Harper's OBP is higher. He had 18 walks in June, Marsh had 4. RBI doesn't affect OPS

I mean bryce has the highest ops in NL for 1b....average these days is not as important as it use to be. He draws walks and has a lot of extra base hits.

Schwarber: .930 career OPS w/ Phillies in Playoffs
Marsh: .650 career OPS in playoffs.
