Statistics They Hear Me Comin’…

If you told me on May 1st that we would be here on July 1st, I wouldn’t have believed you. Feels Good, Man.

I fully admit I said there was no chance they could catch the Braves by the end of the season. Here they are, almost caught by July 4. Absolutely wild.

Barves is way funnier

2

u/CKtheFourth Jul 02 '26

Barf is singular, Barves is plural. Like knife and knives

u/TheGreatDudebino Francisco Renteria 2029 Jul 01 '26

As someone who thought the division was far from over (mostly because Braves pitching was always fraudulent) , I too am surprised that there’s a quality chance we take the division over before the break BUT the Braves shitting the bed the last month helped (not complaining)

9

u/Otterable Jul 01 '26

I thought it would get spicy in mid-August, not the by the beginning of July. The Braves were always going to cool off but we've been winning at a consistently good clip and they have started cratering way worse than i thought.

u/Cwrabz Did you say free hoagies? Jul 01 '26

It’s almost like there’s 162 games in the season and starting off slow doesn’t end the possibility of winning the division from a team that had a hot start

26

u/Nochtilus Jul 01 '26

The Phillies didn't just start off slow, they were horrendous. The Barves didn't just start hot, they had a very long run of good baseball and are a well-constructed team. This wasn't the Royals having 1 good April.

People were correct to have significant concerns about the division.

8

u/Cwrabz Did you say free hoagies? Jul 01 '26

Concerns sure, but I recall most of this sub declaring the season over after 28 games, and that’s a ridiculous thing to say after one month of baseball

6

u/Tick-Tock-Mr-Klein Jul 01 '26

Many people here are just shitposting basically. It's fun to jump from pole to pole of "World Series incoming!" to "FIRE THEM ALL!" after a bad at bat. I would take basically nothing seriously. Even the people who are serious are often unserious people if you know what I mean

2

u/caifaisai Jul 01 '26

No way man, you're the worst person in the WORLD for that comment. You should be in prison.

Wait, I see another comment from you that I slightly agree with. I take it all back. You're the greatest man alive!!! I would die for you!

(Kinda like that lol)?

2

u/problyurdad_ Jul 01 '26

Happens every year with this core group and the casuals that make up most of the subreddit.

1

u/Nochtilus Jul 01 '26

Sure but the above comments were saying they wouldn't win the division, not that the season was over.

2

u/Di5pel he's the fucking lizard king Jul 01 '26

I don’t disagree, but there’s a difference between having concerns and the people overreacting saying it was already a lost season

1

u/Nochtilus Jul 01 '26

Well good thing they're talking about the division and not the season.

1

u/itnor Jul 01 '26

I think one should always have mild doubts and concerns, no matter when hot and cold streaks arise. A team’s level is determined over 162 games, always. Two years ago, the Phillies rampaged out of the game—then leveled off and never rediscovered the spark. For all we know, they could have played their best baseball for the 2026 season…or could keep rolling through. That’s the joy and agony.

u/orangesfwr Bryson Stott Jul 01 '26

Naaaaaaaaaahhh [/s]

2

u/Spikeantestor Jul 01 '26

I said the same thing thing. The braves were so good on so many fronts it didn't seem like a fluke. I was sure, by end end of the season, all we were gonna be talking about was Braves vs Dodgers.

2

u/SkatzFanOff Jul 01 '26

I think the thing I keep needing to learn about baseball, and I keep trying to workshop a turn of phrase for it, is that there are so many games until there aren't, and it’s never too late until it is.

The AL Central alone over the last, like, three years kind of surmises that. It felt like a new team either made the playoffs or won the division outright in like the final three weeks of the season when they were back by 10 games or something

3

u/itnor Jul 01 '26

I’m very old in Reddit years. Been following baseball for 50 years now. My team growing up were the masters of the slow start, late close, then usually falling short. Taught me to sit back and appreciate the arc of a season, not to read too much into anything. Don’t get too high or low. Engage when you can see the “magic” turned on. Avert the eyes when your team is flailing, as nearly every team will do.

1

u/JiveChicken00 Darren Daulton Jul 01 '26

I think a lot of people are suffering from cognitive dissonance right now, not just you :)

2

u/Doodsballbag Jul 01 '26

Easy with the big words, I just got light headed after reading that 😂

1

u/JiveChicken00 Darren Daulton Jul 01 '26

Okay. My brain hurts from trying to figure out what the fuck is going on.

1

u/Cute-Contract-6762 Jul 01 '26

The turnaround for this team feels unprecedented to be fair

90

u/Ok-Nature-3991 Jul 01 '26

Kinda crazy the Marlins are still right behind us.

44

u/I_eat_mud_ Jul 01 '26

And the Nats are like right behind them

46

u/Jashuman19 Bryson Stott Jul 01 '26

It's pretty crazy the NL east had 4 teams under .500 for like an entire month. And now 4 teams over .500. 3 pretty crazy turnarounds in this division.

16

u/Cwrabz Did you say free hoagies? Jul 01 '26

Tell me more about the 4th

2

u/apexxin Jul 02 '26

Lolmets

1

u/bob_dole- JT Realmuto Jul 01 '26

And Mets are not right behind no one

10

u/Mr_November11 Bryce Harper Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

Marlins had the best record in baseball in June (20-6), with a +51 run differential. They’re playing out of their minds rn

6

u/Dry-Entry9236 Jul 01 '26

And we somehow took 2/3 from them in that insane stretch too

7

u/MulfordnSons I’m gonna jump Jul 01 '26

belt to ass

5

u/TheGreatDudebino Francisco Renteria 2029 Jul 01 '26

good fundamental team. Good manager. Young and scrappy. Fun team to watch in vaccum.

1

u/guns_n_crypto Jul 01 '26

it'll be interesting to see where they all go once Bruce Shermanates the team instead of retaining that young talent.

1

It wasn't dumb a few weeks ago :(

27

u/Worst_smurf_NA I am sure our relationship would be a real Home Run Jul 01 '26

Marlins 4.5 back is pretty surprising as well

23

u/XSC Bryce Harper Jul 01 '26

Best division in baseball if we remove the Mets

6

u/Electrical_Doubt3024 Jul 01 '26

Can we?

6

u/XSC Bryce Harper Jul 01 '26

Relegate their ass

1

u/Farg_Igorg Jul 01 '26

To the Championship they go.

9

u/itnor Jul 01 '26

For the gajillionth time, demonstrating that the start of a season doesn’t tell us much about how the season will play out. All the early buzz was about the NL Central, which has been inching back to the pack, while the East has caught up.

2

u/Di5pel he's the fucking lizard king Jul 01 '26

Extra crazy because we literally just saw last season a team come back from like a 15-game deficit IN JULY to win their division

2

u/itnor Jul 01 '26

Then the Tigers’ run the year prior, after they were selling at the trade deadline.

8

u/Gullible_Rice7380 Jul 01 '26

Not only will the Phillies catch the Braves , Marlins will too

u/JayRay_44 I want to go to the Franklin Institute with John Kruk Jul 01 '26

Yeah them damn fish won’t go away…

Also, Happy Cake Day!

6

We were 9-19, I was 100% convinced the season was over. Donnie Baseball is best baseball.

Happy Bobby Bonilla Day!

LOL MR MET… 😂

Also. That is an awesome flair.

4

u/adik_chick Jul 01 '26

It's always like an automatic loss with Painter and Nola on the mound, what if we were winning with them, we would've been already in the #1 spot earlier. Let's goooooo! #Phillies

2

u/JayRay_44 I want to go to the Franklin Institute with John Kruk Jul 01 '26

This thought has crossed my mind… 😳

1

u/adik_chick Jul 09 '26

Well BP replaced Painter and still automatic loss. :(

3

u/ThnkWthPrtls Jul 01 '26

Let's not forget the other beautiful thing about this picture, which is the Mets way down there at the bottom of it

6

u/deadpools_dick Jul 01 '26

We need an updated version of the car mirror meme

3

u/SwimmingSwim3822 Jul 01 '26

Braves manager said he "could care less" about this yesterday.

He Mad, bro. 😂😂

1

u/mb9981 Harry Kalas Jul 01 '26

I mean, to be fair, they've got 3 games in hand so the 2.5 is probably more like 4.0.

3

u/ThnkWthPrtls Jul 01 '26

Well of course, May 1st was before our Lord and savior Elmo graced the team with his presence and blessed them with the gift of victory

I told my brother last month or so, if we could get to within 5-6 games behind Atlanta prior to the all star break, we would have a chance… I didn’t think we would be in striking distance BEFORE THE BREAK! it’s possible to be in the lead by the break. Wild times I tell ya!

I am once again asking for a pinned comment that simply says “nothing matters as long as you’re 30-30 on June 1st” each spring.

2

u/thecodeofsilence Jul 01 '26

“I hear the train a’comin’…
It’s rollin’ round the bend…
And I ain’t seen the sunshine…
Since I don’t know when…”

2

u/Wide_Insurance_5310 Jul 01 '26

Thank you, Donnie baseball.

2

u/Graveyard_Operator83 Jul 01 '26

Wish they didn’t blow that 5 run lead the night prior. Even with that, I never thought we’d be this close prior to the All Star break.

2

u/droffowsneb Malachi Kruk-McCarthy Jul 01 '26

Braves hear me rollin, they hate it…

1

u/Doodsballbag Jul 01 '26

Eff the Mets on Bobby Bonilla day 🤣

1

u/Bobdude8 Jul 01 '26

That’s great and all, BUT I kinda want to ride this team into the playoffs as a wild card team. We clearly perform better that way lol

1

u/Tacodude5 Jul 02 '26

Let's chill. Miami is close

1

u/CKtheFourth Jul 02 '26

Lolmets...

Hope everyone had a Happy Bobby Bonilla Day yesterday, by the way.

1

u/Firm_Ad_2334 Jul 03 '26

Yes they are reeling in the Braves.

But the gap is 4 games back in the loss column.

1

u/spiralesx Jul 04 '26

shoulda swept the buccos , dangit

1

u/VinDucks Jul 05 '26

The Phillies are 3 GB but the Barves have played 4 less games after tonight. Suspect.
