🩷 We wanted to introduce you to tiny Poe (A606292). She is 4 years old and just 9 lbs.  She came into the shelter as a stray and must be missing her family. Poe is very frightened at the shelter and is being kept in isolation.  This poor little girl is terrified in her surroundings and is therefore sassy and reactive.  Poe will be able to live with canine siblings once decompressed – and with slow and proper introduction.  Poe is rescue only and needs a patient foster family that will give her space, time to decompress, get acclimated and learn to trust.  Let’s get little Poe into a wonderful foster home where she can get the love she needs and deserves.  Sadly, her deadline at the shelter is October 20th. She needs a foster so a rescue can help her 🙏.

🩷 Here is gorgeous Nutmeg (A606800) She is 9 years young and 68 lbs.  Nutmeg came into the shelter as a stray.   She is very frightened and insecure.  Nutmeg walks nicely on the leash and has warmed up to her handlers – she nudges their hands for pets.  Nutmeg can live with canine siblings with slow and proper introduction. Nutmeg takes time to get comfortable and needs a foster family with patience that will give her space and time to decompress and learn to trust.  Nutmeg is an older lady that deserves a loving family.  Unfortunately, she has a deadline of October 20th.  Please consider fostering nutmeg for a rescue as she is “rescue only” 🙏.

Animal was brought to the Clinic for triage by Enforcement staff.
Temp: 99.6F (rectal)
Pulse: 120bpm
Resp: 40 breaths per minute

Presenting problem: returned from VEC. See VEC records, pulmonary contusions, bilateral pubic bone fractures, liver trauma, possible R coxofemoral acetabular fracture and cardiac contusions. Received Buprenex at VEC at 2:30am.
Also completed vet exam, DOG WAS HBC. APPEARS STABLE BUT HAVING DIFFICULTY STAND ON BACK LEFT LEG. DROPPED OFF AT VEC

Assessment: QAR, no eye or nasal discharge, BCS 6/9, heart and lung auscultation WNL with slight increased rate and effort suspect due to pulmonary contusions. Engorged mammary glands suspect recent lactation. Reluctant to stand or walk, moderate weight bearing lame L hind, pain level 2-3/4. Uncomfortable and tense on abdominal palpation. MM pink. E collar on. Removed light bandage from R cephalic. Ulcerated abrasion L mammary gland. Small left mammary mass. Prognosis is guarded to fair.

Recommendations:
-continue E collar
-recommend repeat Chem in 1 week (recheck ALT)
-request post to rescue with 1 week deadline due to multiple hip fractures
-request tech exam, **AFTER 12 NOON, give Buprenorphine SR SQ by weight.
-recheck in 1, 3 and 7 days
-rx Carprofen, start tomorrow
-rx Gabapentin, start tonight
-gave Convenia, Cerenia, Carprofen SQ at time of exam

This is a family member’s dog who they are unfortunately no longer able to care for. We’ve been trying to find someone willing to adopt him, but so far, we haven’t had any luck.

He’s a sweet, healthy 5-year-old dog with a good temperament. The biggest challenge is that he’s a large dog who has always been accustomed to living indoors. He doesn’t do well being left outside and will bark for hours because he’s used to being inside with his family.
He comes with his own elevated trampoline bed, food bowls, and dog food.
We’re located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, and I’m willing to drive anywhere in the county to bring him to a loving home.

Unfortunately, if they can’t find someone to take him in, the family is planning to have him euthanized. I’m desperately trying to prevent that from happening because he’s a sweet dog who deserves a chance at finding another home.

Randy is a friendly dog and has been paired successfully with others multiple times. He is currently sharing kennel 02 with Zeke (neutered male).

💙 Sweet and gentle senior Randy (A603964) who is 8 years young and 42 lbs is looking for a wonderful home where he can getlove and some relaxation. Randy is kind and friendly to everyone - including all other dogs. He allows full-handling, seeks social, is extremely affectionate and returns to his kennel without issue. 💙 RANDY A603964 - Additional notes:

He has a history of blood in urine and was prescribed antibiotics. The blood in urine is resolved but he had a free catch urine culture and sensitivity sent to a Lab -and was also noticed to have a mass on a testicle when neutered.-   The urine culture results came back with two bacteria, one being very resistant and not responsive to oral medications.  

*The results could be contamination (as it was a free catch), or it can be a true infection.

Patient has been started on a second round of antibiotics.

🩷 CASSIE #A606447 - This dog is a spayed female. This dog is currently located in CLIND38. This dog weighs approximately 49.0 lbs.,is 4Y and has tested negative for heartworm disease. This dog is being posted to rescue due to medical.

Meet Cassie!

Needs to find rescue placemen by October 9 at 5pm

*Cassie is likely deaf, has microphthalmia and limited vision.  Will likely not do well in the shelter environment.*

Cassie came to us with some healing wounds and limping but has no fractures.  It is suspected it was due to having pad wounds.

This girl is deaf and has some visual deficits (appears to have congenital microphthalmia).  She was easily leashed and handled during intakes.  Friendly!

Medical notes:

Findings: BAR, no eye or nasal discharge, dirt in coat, non weight bearing lame right front leg, mild abrasions and hair loss on rostral muzzle, hair loss on R ear, moderate brown crusted healing wound R shoulder. Eyes microphthalmic, suspect congenital. Does appear to respond to some visual stimuli but suspect visual impairment.  Appears non responsive to auditory stimuli, suspect hearing deficits.

“A606447 approached kennel door with fearful body language (walking low to the ground, tail tucked). She allowed leashing but was hesitant with walking (remaining low to the ground), needing gentle coaxing from handlers to get through the hallway. Once in yard A606447 appeared anxious, pacing around but also coming up to handlers seeking comfort in them. Allowing full handling. A606447 was still hesitant walking through hallway when returning to kennel. Unleashed no issue but did begin heavy vocalizing in an anxious/stressed manner once back alone in her kennel.
Move to advanced due to needing extra guidance when walking through the hallway.”

📍She went to foster for the weekend, here are her notes fom foster

Notes from weekend foster with BLB: While extremely limited on what she can see and hear, Cassie has shown herself to be very resilient and a quick learner of her surroundings. Really, her biggest struggle is her anxiety when left alone. She can become vocal and send herself into “panic mode”. The ideal home for her is someone who has the time and patience to help guide her through these moments and slowly acclimate her to being comfortable when alone. She does not appear to be the most comfortable in a crate but made some small strides. Luckily Cassie had no accidents! For her to potty she requires patience to first feel comfortable in an area, and some emotional support so she can focus on going to the bathroom vs. looking for “her person”. She also prefers to have her emotional support person during mealtimes. Cassie did come in with other dogs and did not show reactivity towards mine but is sensitive/startles easy so extremely slow introductions would be the best route for her. I would also recommend feeding her separately from other animals. Lastly, due to her special needs I think a home with older children would be best suited for her at this time. Overall, she is a very friendly dog but will need patience and consistency to thrive!!

💙 Meet precious Dozer (A544391) who has been in the shelter for far too long and now has a deadline.  Dozer is 5 years old and weighs 57 lbs.  He is easily handled, very friendly and affectionate and easily paired (he is currently sharing kennel 12 with Miss Ruby, a spayed female).   He has a bit of skin allergies but certainly does not deserve to be euthanized for that.  Dozer deserves a family to love him — and some canine siblings!  Please consider adopting or fostering Dozer for a rescue.  He will be an added delight to any family!
