Question How to sell a 5090 without getting scammed?
I purchased a 5090 (Aorus Master Ice) earlier this year for $3000. I really got into PC gaming after I got 4090 in 2023 but now I find myself jumping from game to game. I start a new game but then get bored easily and jump to new one and the cycle repeats. I don't really have any energy to game after work and classes. Maybe it's depression or just part of adulthood. Regardless, I am thinking about selling my 5090, but I am afraid of getting scammed.
I sold my 4090 to ItsWorthMore and got around $1100 for it at the time. Thinking about about selling again to them but their offer seems low ($4500) compared to what I see on ebay listings. I have never sold anything on ebay successfully or any other marketplace. How can I ensure I don't get scammed if I do decide to sell on ebay? Seen some horror stories on reddit lately.

Actually not a bad idea. Lots of light, cameras, and it's very public.

And if you use all cash as you should, you can deposit it immediately instead of having to transport it yourself.

Fair warning. eBay is 100% buyer focused. A buyer can screw up your card in some way or another, claim it was sent that way, then get their money back. Then you're out a card and the cash. I went through something similar and that's why I closed my account for good.
Someone else suggested it. Cash in hand at your local PD. My PD has a dedicated area for meetup transactions with cameras, etc.

I'ma preach for listing on Jawa.gg because they have seller protection and have customer support that won't automatically side with the buyer like eBay does. You can either sell it directly to Jawa a fast payout or you can list it there yourself.

Just don't do any online selling please. Preferably in police station parking lot.

Honestly, at this point you have to sell it like you would a used car lol thats been going on for years so just look into how that is handled in your area.

Make sure you take alot of pictures and a video of you boxing it up if youre that concerned. Also, in your ebay settings..you can usually set up that only users with a certain amount of verified sales/purchases can bid on your item.

When I sell and buy PCs or hardware on marketplace I always meet them in person and always test the hardware.
Always test when I'm buying, always demand the buyer tests if I'm selling.
When I'm selling, I always say how I prefer to get paid (cash or app) and never give the goods until I see the money in my account.
Had a few people ask me to hand over something to a cab driver that will also pay me.
I always say if you can't come in person, I'm not selling you anything.
Meet, test, transfer money, double check, hand over the goods.

Only meetup in a bank or police station. Cash only, if at a bank have them verify cash is legitimate and not counterfeit before handing over gpu

I've sold on eBay for 20+ years and honestly I'd recommend local for anything above $2000. These high demand high value items always have a much higher return rate. You'd think high value means the buyer will know what they are doing but I've had buyers claim they have racks of enterprise SSDs but they don't know how to properly format an enterprise SSD and they don't bother doing the bare minimum to figure it out.
Local doesn't have these issues.

Don't sell it on eBay. As other people have pointed out, eBay is a buyer's website. There are fuck all protections for you as a seller. All he has to do is claim he received an empty box or some shit, or claim the card doesn't work - maybe even using a broken one as "proof" it doesn't - and then eBay fucks you.
I know the extra money you see on eBay is appealing but the truth is, you only paid $3000 for it and even if you sell it at $4500 on that website, you're making $1500. If you get greedy you might lose everything.
Your best bet is to try to sell it in-person and cash-only, at a police station. If that fails, then take the $4500 and you're still walking away $1500 richer. Or get greedy and become one of the hundreds of people who come on this subreddit talking about how they got scammed out of thousands of dollars on a 5090. The choice is yours.

I use Jawa to sell my old parts. Jawa holds onto the money until both parties are satisfied. Seller doesn’t get their funds until the buyer says good to go (or 3 days pass after receiving). If the buyer says no go, Jawa sends them a shipping label to return it. Buyer doesn’t get the money refunded until the seller tells Jawa it was returned in the same condition they sent it. They will take a cut though

I used to sell $3k camera. I met at local police station in their parking lot right under their camera. Some stations even have dedicated parking for seller-buyer meet up like this. I brought a UV light scanner for the bills. I did tell them ahead I only accept new polymer $100 bills.

Our local PS has parking spots that are under 24/7 video surveillance. Cash only. I bring my pistol for large transactions but I know that’s not acceptable in all states, I keep it concealed.

See, that's the conundrum. You're worried that any buyer might scam you, and any potential buyer won't believe that you're legit if you're selling a 5090 on a newly opened eBay account. Catch 22.
If you have a Microcenter nearby, I'd consider trading the card in. It'll be a low offer compared to what you see on Ebay, sure, but you're saving yourself a lot of headache.

So you don't want to get scammed so you're asking us how to sell your $3000 used GPU for $4500.... effectively scamming someone? Get bent.

No one is scamming anyone. The GPU isn’t $3k, it was. It’s like calling someone whos selling their bitcoin a scammer because they made profit on it. If you would sell it for 3k then you should consider donating that 1,5k to charity instead of some random guy

They retail for 7.5-8k now. That’s almost half price if you could find one new in store
