Video PS5 Emulation becoming viable on lower end PCs!

Using Jetsku's KytyPS5 Fork as it has some fixes in both Astro games.

Build is an RTX 5060 + Ryzen 5 5600GT (Same performance as a 5500, 6c/12t), 16GB RAM. Game is Astro's Playroom.

It's still getting around 35 fps in the main lobby, but inside the actual levels its hovering around 45-60fps! Not sure I'd call it fully playable yet, but the progress is amazing.

More gameplay and settings used, guide (english subtitled): https://youtu.be/yMw7_cGbicw

Edit: fixed link. Meant lower end when compared to most showcases of these emulators being 5090s, X3D chips and DDR5... Better wording would be "current-generation lower end".

Also, people seem to be wildly overestimating the 5600gt. Genuinely can't run any triple-A RPCS3 game at a locked 30fps.

Everything may have gotten more expensive, but the 60 series are entry level cards

it's an entry level card that is a year old vs. a console APU that is 6 years old

u/Xecular_Official R9 9950X3D | RTX 4090 | 2x48GB DDR5 | Alphacool 11h ago

Yeah? The PS5's apu is technically on par with a 3060 in terms of raster performance, and that card only launched a year after the ps5

The point is to showcase that entry level systems can emulate PS5 games though, not to compare the PS5 to modern hardware

I wonder how well an 8GB 3060 would do with this app? Must be a bit short of native PS5 performance due to translation layer and current state of the code (early alpha).

You should see around 70% of FPS that the 5060 is giving in this example

u/Plightz 7h ago

Yeah, what do you expect with emulation that's only restarted work cause Sony were being morons. It's impressive it's gotten this far in a month or so.

They are absolutely not entry level cards. Holy cow Nvidia marketing has done a number on the public. Just because they axed their 30 level cards doesn’t mean the 60 level becomes bottom barrel, did we just totally forget the 5050 exists? An entry level card does not have a $300 MSRP even in 2026 dollars.

u/reader4567890 9h ago

5050 is low end too. This isn't simple, the 5060 is an entry level gaming GPU of the current gen. Price doesn't come into it.

By the amazing logic displayed in these comments, a 1070 isn't low end because the 970 exists.

The msrp difference between the 5050 and 5060 is only ~$50. I'd argue that the 60 series are still entry level cards even if they aren't the absolute cheapest model Nvidia offers

A different brand would be a better value anyways for someone who is on a tight enough budget for $50 to matter

Entry level by definition is the first option in a group of items, in this case 5000 series GPUs. 5050 is entry, the first lowest option available. 5060 is low end/base level and grouping them together as entry level by arbitrary pricing makes no sense.

People completely forgot what mid-range is. Lol

2

u/AstroPhysician 2h ago

70s would be midrange where 80 and 90 is upper

2

u/sonicnerd14 1h ago

Don't forget 90 didn't even exist until the 30 series, and it basically outdated the Titan line to doubledip into both the consumer and professional/enthusiast tiers.

u/orsikbattlehammer R7 9800X3D | RTX 5080 FE | 4TB 990 Pro | 32GB 3h ago

Seriously, are we going to have the audacity to call a 5070 mid range?

1

u/CallMePickle 2h ago edited 52m ago

Given that it's in the middle of the range for the 50 series offerings, I'd have to say yes. What do YOU think is low end/mid range?

Again, we're talking products that can be purchased new. Not ebay.

Edit: I bet you respond without even giving an example as I asked you to do.

I feel like an old man shaking his fist at the clouds. Just because it’s in the middle of Nvidia’s product offering does not mean it has to be mid range. There are tons of offerings you buy right now that will play any game you want at 1440 that are way less expensive. The trillion dollar corporations have truly won.

2

u/CallMePickle 53m ago

I asked you to name any. You still haven't.

Mid range stands for middle range. I will die on this hill.

If I price my lint at $1000, $1050, and $1100, the $1050 option is mid range, even if all options are a dumb as fuck deal.

Absurd that anyone disagrees. A 5060 is in no world "entry level". Insane

37

u/Xecular_Official R9 9950X3D | RTX 4090 | 2x48GB DDR5 | Alphacool 11h ago

I think its important to consider that entry level does not inherently mean cheap. It just designates the price of a product relative to the rest of its lineup.

The 60 series is the 2nd lowest priced card Nvidia offers. The price difference between it and their absolute cheapest card is only $50, so I put them in the same category

-18

u/Aurukel i7 12700k | RTX 3060ti | 16GB RAM 11h ago

Well, maybe that's true, but it's in no way in hell a lower end card like the title of this post suggests

13

u/Xecular_Official R9 9950X3D | RTX 4090 | 2x48GB DDR5 | Alphacool 11h ago

It's definitely not, but I think OP was just trying to say that PS5 emulation has advanced far enough to run on lower end PCs than it could before

-14

u/Aurukel i7 12700k | RTX 3060ti | 16GB RAM 11h ago

Yeah and that's cool. But in the current market let's call a 5060 what it is. High end

14

u/agente4242 RTX 5060 | R5 5600GT | 16GB DDR4 11h ago

5060 = high end is crazy

-2

u/Aurukel i7 12700k | RTX 3060ti | 16GB RAM 11h ago

It runs basically every game on the market with good performance. The 5060 is just a few steps down from the strongest card on the market and the vast vast vast majority of pc gamers are on worse hardware. I looked it up and around 85-90% of steam users are on worse hardware. So you tell me, what makes it not high end, if not the fact that only 10% of pc gamers have something equal or better?

4

u/agente4242 RTX 5060 | R5 5600GT | 16GB DDR4 10h ago

Nvidia only sells their 5000 Generation cards currently. You are saying every single GPU in their lineup is high-end or above? Not a single low end or mid tier GPU in their current lineup? That would just be a terrible business decision.

It just seems like you are basing "high end" on the entire history of GPUs. While I meant current gen GPUs. Should've specified that in the title, sorry.

it is lower end

lower end is if you look at the CURRENT market and there its the weaker gpus = the lower end of the market

-4

u/imbidou 7800x3d || Pulse 7900xtx || 32GB 6000MHz 10h ago

Only if you're looking at new models. There are still 10-20-30 series being sold on the sh market, and most of the 20 series can play games alright. so yeah, the 5060 is not lower end my dude

2

u/reader4567890 9h ago

Yeah, and the 1070 is still high end because the 970 exists and can still be bought second hand... Right?

(JFC)

-1

u/imbidou 7800x3d || Pulse 7900xtx || 32GB 6000MHz 9h ago

hey reader stick to reading instead of writing. a 5060 is by no chance low end.

1

u/reader4567890 8h ago

It's a 5060 - the xx60 has literally been the low end card in every generation since they started with this numbering.

So in summary, you're talking out of your arse.

-5

u/Aurukel i7 12700k | RTX 3060ti | 16GB RAM 10h ago

The "'current'" market is basically unaffordable for most of the pc gamer consumer base. I wouldn't call that the current market

6

u/UsoppIsJoyboy 10h ago

the current market is whatever it is, doesnt matter if a 5060 costs 10‘000$ or 300$

the prices we have are REALITY

1

u/Aurukel i7 12700k | RTX 3060ti | 16GB RAM 10h ago

People are still buying previous generation cards. That's still part of the current market

2

u/reader4567890 9h ago

What would you call it? Because it's literally an entry level gaming GPU from the current generation.

1

u/Pretty-Bumblebee6752 8h ago

At some point we gotta accept our hardware is old. I just went from 1080 to 1440p and my 3060 is no longer a performing as well as it was on 1080p. I really wouldn’t recommend anyone to get anything lower than like a 3080 given they were getting into pc gaming either.

2

u/Plightz 7h ago

I'm saying man. Like being on a 2060 is fine and all but saying only that card is low end is wild.

2

u/Pretty-Bumblebee6752 7h ago

People forget how much time has past! my last build I was using an already budget CPU and was curious why it wasn't doing so well; it was outdated like 5 years ago!

-2

u/Vaxtez i3-12100F/32GB/RX6600 11h ago

Exactly. People are also forgetting that the used market exists. Calling a 5060 entry level is the most stereotypical PCMR thing I have ever seen.
I'd consider entry level to be the sub £75-100 bracket. So think things like used RX 570/580s & used GTX 1650/GTX 1060 6GBs alongside things like the GTX 750 Ti & GTX 1050 Ti

8

u/Xecular_Official R9 9950X3D | RTX 4090 | 2x48GB DDR5 | Alphacool 11h ago

These are all entry level cards, just from different generations.

The whole reasoning behind what is considered entry level kind of falls apart if I can buy a $50 used PC from the early 2000s and declare that any PC above $50 is not an entry level PC

The MSRP of the GTX 1060 6GB (non-partner) and RTX 5060 were both $300 at launch

13

u/maddix30 R7 7800X3D | 4080 Super | 32GB 6000MT/s 11h ago

Those GPUs were considered entry level when I got into PC gaming almost a decade ago. Are we going to move on at some point?

-3

u/Vaxtez i3-12100F/32GB/RX6600 11h ago

They're still commonly seen at the sub £100 bracket. Things like the RX 5600 XT, RTX 2060 & GTX 1660 Super are creeping in too in the £75-100 bracket, but for those in the £50-70 range, those are the GPUs you'll be finding a fair bit.

-2

u/DW_Hydro R7 8700g | R780m | 32GB 6400mhz 10h ago

Not as long as those cards alows you to play what you want.

Hardware is not like before dude, most of Steam catalog is playable on those cards.

2

u/UsoppIsJoyboy 10h ago

thats second hand market

1

u/ozmega 6h ago

a entry card? that is a finisher card !

2

u/TTechnology R7 5800X3D / 9070XT / 4x8GB 3600MHz CL16 11h ago

It's entry level just artificially speaking. Back then we had x10, x20, x30 cards. My first card was GT 640.

There's also GTX/RTX xx50 cards... It xx60 cards shouldn't be considered entry level, it wasn't in the past.

10

u/Jebble Ryzen 7 5700 X3D | 3070Ti FE 11h ago

What was in the last is irrelevant. X10 was the lowest then, x50 is the lowest now. You're comparing apples and potatoes.
