News/Article Hogwarts Legacy's DLSS 5 update shows devs have been listening to PC gamers about keeping it the hell away from game characters

The early demos of DLSS 5 were showing what it's capable of, that's all. Assuming it would be used exactly like it was showcased was something you made up in your head or you're just repeating what you hear in the echo chamber of the internet. It was an obvious overreaction from day 1.

guess you can write any sort of garbage and pass it off as journalism these days

Devs have been listening to who? The people that havent tried it aka the screenshot critics?
Once the mods gave full control there was immense amount of reward in finding the right balance for your own taste. Some folks will use it a lot, while some will use a little. Who cares?! Using dlss5 at say 10% is pointless imo in most cases and still gives the same performance penalty all the same.
This take on the article/game shipment is just to appease the virtue signalers that lose their mind about "artist intent". I remember when they yelled it would only work if you had two 5090s and now look... It's all subjective and will take a while Nvidia to give more control to users officially.
Those of us that prefer control will still have the mods to do so, just let these virtue signalers get spoon-fed until they eventually complain about having diet dlss5.

That's bullshit

Yay, devs listened to a bunch of people who dont even have a GPU capable of running DLSS 5 lol

I feel like they went too far, or should give users more control over what the model does, or doesn’t.
DLSS5 is very expensive. And sure, it definitely looks better if you only use it in a minor way to fix these smaller issues. But using it less, doesn’t reduce the GPU load.
Even though incorporating genAI into the video output of games is probably the future, we could probably fix the issues that DLSS5 fixes, without DLSS5, and with better performance. I mean DLSS5 is more expensive than path tracing in some games. And I would definitely choose path tracing over DLSS5.

Latest DLSS5 is already 2 times faster then the one released a couple of months ago, and 10X faster then the first demo. It will probably become less resource intensive then raytracing/path tracing while having similar fidelity.

I mean DLSS5 is inherently a screen space effect. It fundamentally doesn’t really have the same understanding how light should behave, like ray/path tracing.
So right now, I don’t think DLSS5 can replace ray/ path tracing.
But yes, genAI video output for games is undoubtedly the future. But DLSS5 is just kinda the alpha version of it. The worst it’ll ever be.

I should have phrased it better, but I believe it will soon be able to substitute ray/path tracing for lower spec systems that cant run the full light calculation.

Ehhhh. Even with the 2x speed up, it’s still much much much more expensive than ray tracing. And it just fundamentally can’t really compete in the same way.
I mean look at videos of cyberpunk. Raster + DLSS5 looks much, much worse than Path tracing without DLSS5. And the raster + DLSS5 also runs worse.
Maybe it’ll make sense with DLSS6-7-8. To entirely replace lighting with a genAI model.

Doesn't matter. I can just mod it myself. Good thing we're not stuck with what some developer think I should play at.

The fun part is that the loud minority yelled so much it made developers think what should we play at but in the opposite direction they wanted in the first place.

yeah and now it's just barely noticeable, yeaay, now it's time to protest against "Low" settings that also break shadows and textures and are against the game designer's vision

And this year's "Missing the entire point" award goes to....

The entire point of what? People freaking out over "changed faces" that were just better textures and light/shadows. Somehow Bobby Jr. setting everything to the lowest didn't care that it makes the game characters looking like textureless shadowless silhouettes.
Dude with a GTX1080, you should probably chill being against something that won't even work on your gpu, but I'm sure you are used to modding potato graphics and playing at low FPS like the game designers intended (while adding Ultra Epic RTX whatever presets in settings)

"You're too poor to have an opinion" is a pretty telling argument to make, but go off, I guess.

Go cry about something else, like the quality of Ferrari tires.

I really can't tell if you're just dumb enough to not follow how conversations work, or if you genuinely think you're making coherent points.

I feel like the model that was released with 2K27 was already WAYYYY toned down compared to the one they first demonstrated because I immediately put it on RE9 to see the "yassified Grace" and it made no changes whatsoever to her face or any other faces for that matter but the environment managed to look even better than with PT alone.
