Of course it loads faster, because your epic library is empty with no real playtime data etc. because you have never used it compared to steam which you unfortunately have been using for years probably. It's a genious innovation you see
I (like many others) grab all the free stuff. I have no idea what I have there cause I cannot see them without installing the launcher, which I refuse to do.
I gave up on the free games after I tried to log in to claim a title one day and found the website was so broken that I literally could not progress past the captcha. The free games are not worth the stress of trying to log in.
Well that's great for you, but I've had multiple devices where they kept giving me captchas that went from 'barely functional' to 'completely broken', no idea if they're fixed now but it went on for a really long time. Maybe they only gave them to people in certain regions or people not using Chrome or something.
Whatever the case, they really were that bad for me last time I went to try and claim a game.
Epic is how I got into Hades, Subnautica, Control (and the AW-verse in general) and GTA V. I grab the free stuff religiously. I might only use 1% of it, but 1% is worth keeping the habit up.
There definitely are gems that they give away for free and when I didn’t have any money to actually buy games it was great. But now that I have money I’d rather go pay for the games to show the developers some support.
Yeah, I wouldn't pretend to be actually poor but I don't have a lot of disposable income so I don't buy indiscriminately if I can get at least a game from a dev I've never tried for free.
I did it for all of those actually, I bought the next Subnautica, the next Hades (and Supergiant's previous games) and several AW games because I playec Control for free, but getting the first one for free lets me get a measure of the studio before commiting. Technically I'm also gonna buy the next GTA (most likely at least, depend on PC performance and reviews), but I didn't discover that series through epic xD
It can integrate with EGS and download your games without ever opening the actual Epic launcher. It can even automatically add the games to your Steam library as a non-Steam game.
Yeah I did that once on the Steam Deck. It is a godsend (to be able to play the games and never touch their launcher). It is nice to put the others all together too. Great piece of software.
Hell, with how shitty my internet is (ty Germany) the local part of my library is already loaded while all the online stuff (update notes, game pictures, etc.) still loads in due to shitty bandwidth.
