What happens when you enable eco mode indefinitely for Ryzen 7 5700x?
1
u/BlaBlub85 8h ago
Well it will be in eco mode indefinitely? Slight performance decrease for some battery time savings, so kinda pointless if you are on a desktop
Unless you have heat problems in which case either your CPU fan is dying or your thermal paste is beyond cooked, thats not a CPU that produces a problematic amount of heat if everything is in working order

I wanna hit a 55 to 60 degrees temp whenever I play games that heats up the cpu.

To what end? There's absolutely nothing wrong with the CPU being hotter than that
1
u/Zerkoul 5h ago
Yeah since the most have a safety feature when exceeds their max tempt. But is it wrong just to set it to eco mode when you don't want to have it heat up?

u/Eidolon_2003 R5 3600 @ 4.3 GHz | 16GB DDR4-3800 CL14 | Arc A770 LE 5h ago
No, there's nothing wrong with using eco mode necessarily. All it does is lower your CPU's power limit, there's nothing more to it than that.

Considering rising electricity cost and the heat here in southeast asia, I'd rather consider it. The only concern I have with having it in eco mode is that it might dmg the cpu? Or is it just that it limits the power so that it won't overheat?

It literally does nothing but lower the power limit. There's absolutely no danger associated with doing that

Hello! I just had a bit of a scare and wanted to know what happened.
My machine is an rx6600, r5 5600, 32gb ddr4, tuf b550 mobo and a dual monitor setup.
Yesterday I was using my PC like normal, turned it off, went to sleep. Today, when I tried turning it on, it had the wrong resolution on my main monitor and wouldn't let me change it (640x), restarting didn't fix it. This was the first time in 3 years this has ever happened.
I tried unplugging my second monitor and restarting the PC with only the main monitor connected, and it gave me one long and three short beeps, indicating a GPU problem. First, I didn't get any video (but it had sound), then on a force restart it had video but it was still on the wrong resolution. It gave me a windows update progress screen, even though I'm sure there were no updates to be made so I'm assuming that was the system attempting a recovery after the force shutdown. It restarted twice during that process, and on the last restart it gave me the beeps again, but it ended up booting up correctly anyways. Resolution was finally fixed and everything seems to be working like normal.
I am completely lost, what just happened? Are there some measures I can take to avoid this happening again?

Definitely sounds GPU related, though hard to say what at this point.
When you see the Windows recovery screen, sometimes it's recovering from a bad shutdown, sometimes you'll see it with major driver updates, it could be a lot of things.
When you get the beep codes you mentioned, that's coming from the motherboard. Any checks that would trigger that come before Windows starts, so that mostly rules out driver issues.
It could be that your GPU is on its way out. On the boots where you got the beep codes, it just didn't start up properly, which made the motherboard report it as failed, but then other times it got lucky. Something you could try, fully remove the GPU from the case. Take a look at the contacts that go into the PCIe slot, make sure they're clean and there's no corrosion. Look at the slot itself and make sure there's no dust or debris in there. If it's all clean, reinstall the GPU and make sure it's firmly installed. You want to make sure it has good contact everywhere. A spotty connection could explain the symptoms, so maybe you'll get lucky.
Good luck!

Thank you! I'll check my GPU connection to make sure.
However, to be honest, it might be a faulty HDMI cable. My second monitor (which I am currently using, since my primary is not working properly) hasn't had any issues, boots like normal and everything. So it's JUST my display port to HDMI connection acting funky, which could be the cable, the GPU or the monitor itself.

To my knowledge, you wouldn't get a beep code from the motherboard just from having a monitor unplugged, but it could be related to that.
If you have another high-quality HDMI cable, it wouldn't hurt to see what happens swapping it out

Looking for UPS suggestions, I've noticed a few strange electrical occurrences around my PC and desk. I am trying to get a electrician to get out and look at the whole room/circuit but where I live that is easier said than done. In the meantime I was considering getting a UPS to protect all the expensive stuff around my Desk so my PC, Monitor, TV etc. I am looking for suggestions.
I don't mind paying a bit more if it means quality especially quality that lasts. I don't necessarily need something with a massive battery to keep me running during power cuts, more so something to protect my expensive electronics from whatever is going on with my plugs.

a 1000w or 1500w unit is plenty.
My server is on one and can generally ride out any power outage that is shorter than an hour.

First off, do you live in a 110V country and are all these devices drawing power from the same socket? Because that might be your problem right there, multi screen setup + power hungry GPU can be enough already on a single 110V socket. Even if you live in a 230/240V country its best praxis to NOT hook up everything to the same socket, just in case
Before you spend lotsa money on an USP you should consider "just" getting a power strip with a surge protector or a surge protector you plug directly into the socket. Too little electricity isnt really a problem for PC parts / screens, they will just shut down

I built my rig 8 years ago and I’m looking at a new one. It doesn’t look like building is really much cheaper than buying a prebuilt. Am I dense or is this the case now that pc parts are so expensive now??

u/unabletocomput3 core ultra 270k rx 9070xt 10h ago
It’s unfortunately been the case for about a year now, simply because ram and storage have gotten so expensive.

u/HOWDY__YALL 10h ago
Honestly, it saves me some time. I just don’t have the ability to be as picky I guess.

I just built a PC myself 2 months ago and imho its still cheaper to do it yourself even if prebuilts have become more competitive with the price craziness. If I had bought a prebuilt system with the specs I got I would have spent ~500€ more than what the parts cost (although that might have been in part due to the summer dip)
Problem is, you are late already, historically theres always a dip in prices over the summer, late July / early August is the sweetspot but after that they start ramping up considerably so they can give you pretend discounts on black friday etc. Ofc demand also goes up since ppl arent outside as much anymore
What is your budget and what do you use it for?

I got given a box of pc parts, and one of the items is an AM4 motherboard with a 1700x CPU in it.
When connected to a PSU and everything, lights on the motherboard come on, but it does not attempt to boot at all.
considering the CPU is so old, wondering if its worth messing with at all, or just tossing it in an e-waste bin.

Did you have a video card in the machine when you attempted to boot it? Some AM4 boards are capable of booting without a VGA (I know mine is), but it requires a setting in the BIOS to enable that. Otherwise it will fail to POST.

Hello,
I am thinking about getting a used powercolor red devil 6800xt.
I have a 12400f and 650w deepcool pl650d psu. Will I need to switch out the PSU if i get this GPU?
1
u/I_Push_Buttonz 6h ago
It will probably work fine since the 12400 is a low wattage part, but I personally wouldn't trust a budget PSU like that with such a high wattage card.

Long story short I have an admin account , someone on the account lost there password. I have access to all there files. They stored there passwords on chrome and they want me to get them where would I find the passwords?
Would I find them in appdata in there user account?
