Not gonna lie, I was thinking about getting this game lol. The racing pedal as a sewing machine pedal is fucking genius

I mean, if you know the backstory it makes sense that the developers made settings to make it as lifelike as possible by having stuff like racing pedals work.

TLDR of the backstory: Developers wife was really into sewing and was pretty good at it. Unfortunately she got a disease that made her joints really loose (i think, the exact details are probably different) and she could no longer sew and work machines. So the Developer made a sim game for her to be able to enjoy making and designing dresses again.

I adore it when people love their partner so much, they invent stuff.

It's the ultimate love letter.

Loving somebody to the point of invention is my favorite historical study

Well here's a fun fact for you: The reason we have medical gloves is because one doctor was in love with his nurse and didn't want her to quit. She was one of the followers of germ theory and took handwashing before operations serious but the chemicals they used back then were breaking down her hands so she would have to quit and the doctor didn't want to lose her and voila we have them everywhere now.

Source. Sadly, they didn't have a happy marriage and all that as was typical of that time period and women who liked to use their brains.

Sounds like Ehlers-Danlos syndrome

It was EDS, yes

As someone with Ehlers Danlos, your joints getting loose and fragile that you’ll need supports or be careful of everything around you sucks. I’m currently wearing supports on my legs to keep balance and I’m hoping to have more time to still be able to do normal things while I’m still able to 😔

My mum has always said when I was growing up that she loved sewing, but she was awful. I was the opposite. She's always wanted to sew like me, well now she can easily outdo me. I've just gifted her my Switch, and I just saw the developer say it's going to be brought out there! Definitely will pre-order a copy.

Now if someone could just make a "Proud of my Son Simulator" so she can finally achieve that, it would be greatly appreciated🙏

Even cooler, the game was made by 3 people, one of which was the wife essentially acting as a design director for the sewing portion of the game and trying to find a balance (I think they did) of realism vs. things that would be annoying to do in a game.

You can tell they actually have clothing makers on the team with the designs and the foresight to implement "cut the fabric in one way or the quality goes down" I've never sewn before I never would have thought that's an actual thing

I had no clue about this backstory, I got into this game because I have a degenerative joint disease and used to love sewing. Dev really out here loving their wife and supporting a whole invisible community of disabled artists.

I'm not even interested in the game, but this backstory makes me want to support the creator.

The racing pedal controller is a mod and was fan driven! But also by a programmer for their partner, so almost as sweet as the OG game

u/skynutter 9h ago

Ah, my apologies. I erronously assumed this was a native feature instead of a mod. My bad.

I believe it's an hypermobile form of Elher-Danlos she's got.

Oh shit, I think I know that disease. There are a few similarities between others but that one in particular has no cure and can be misdiagnosed because of how similar the symptoms are to literally everything. You can’t even carry much weight or walk for long before getting tired our damaging your ligaments. It’s horrible. A worker at my company was diagnosed with it and I feel so bad for her cause she’s super cool and outgoing.

u/skynutter 7h ago

Yeah, its Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. No cure currently. It sucks balls to live with. Thats why its so nice that she still gets to live out her passions in a game.

u/Gridleak 11h ago

Okay well I’m going to buy the game now so thanks for that

Welp time to get my girly pop on and make some dresses

Using a clutch as the brake would be a speedrunning hazard though.

u/Admirable-Hospital78 15h ago

fr, he jokes but using a controller specialized for the game is peak gaming

Part of the game's inception was to be a gift for his wife who loved sewing, so he wanted it to be lifelike

Would highly recommend this game the sheer amount of creativity it inspires is amazing. Im having a blast making dresses and the story is actually good and encourages you to do it bc that's how you unlock new patterns and fabrics and accessories
