The new Apple Mac Studios look like such a value buy and can be paired with a 27" 5K or any gaming monitor for that monitor (e.g., 27" 1440p OLED, 34" ultrawide OLED). I'm really tempted...
What keeps you all on Windows PC besides the modulatory of building and replacing your own?
Note: written from my custom Lian Li O11 air mini with a 12700K and EVGA FTW3 3080 Ti (RIP EVGA)

The hardware is really good, and it makes a ton of sense for the right people. I wouldn't necessarily fault you for buying it. What do you use your computer for?
For me, aside from the fun and freedom of DIY PC, I wouldn't want a Mac. I don't want to be boxed into using MacOS (Linux support exists, but isn't very good afaik), and I don't really want ARM quite yet either. I'd be interested in ARM for sure, but not for my main machine.

Browsing, social media, work research, hobbies stuff, gaming. Games I want to play are all 100% supported on macOS, and I have my PS5 and Switch 2 still.
Both ecosystems work for me. I’m content with my pc right now also it’s been serving me well.
Sad thing is if I went with it, I’d want a new monitor too. And driving it with a 27” 5K is the optimal choice. Even a 27” OLED (1440p) would be a considerable extra cost

Gaming is the biggest concern, but if you aren't concerned with compatibility on that front, then I don't see the issue.
I’m content with my pc right now also it’s been serving me well
This is the biggest reason not to upgrade. Upgrading just for the sake of it is a waste in my opinion

I have a 3060 12gb gpu, what is considered a high/dangerous temperature and fan speed for it? And is it okay in todays AAA game scene?
I remember trying out Dying Light the beast and even on lowest graphics it was pumping out like near 90 degree Celsius with near 1.5k~2k fan speed.

88C is usually the default target for the fan curve. That's why you're seeing nearly 90. This is normal stock behavior. If you want to go for a higher fan speed, you could edit the curve yourself.

Afaik automatic thermal throttling starts at 95C so as long as you stay below 90 you are perfectly fine
Concerning fans, you probably can reduce noise by a lot if you manually adjust the curves, the temp you are seeing is the hotspot temperature and unfortunately fans have a rather limited impact on that
Theres 2 ways to get hotspot temps down effectively: reducing Hz (which reduces performance) or undervolting. Depending on card and individual chip quality undervolting can lead to stability issues / random crashes so its best to try it in very small steps

Dumb question, but for some reason my PC is asking to activate Windows even though I already bought and installed Windows. Unfortunately I tossed the package with the code after installing it. Am I SOL?

This can be caused by some bugs related to virtualisation, like hyper-v, docker installations etc.
Regardless of this, if your license is linked to a Microsoft account, then logging in might restore the activation.

Should I place the GPU on the lowest bracket (closer to the Shroud fans) or higher (closer to the cpu) for better GPU temps?
1
u/Cable_Salad PC Master Race 3d ago
The higher one. Also the lower slots sometimes use slower PCI-e versions.

You should place your GPU in whichever slot supports the highest PCIe standard, mobos often have only one slot thats 5.0 capable
Do you know the manufacturer and make of your mobo or can you post a picture showing the slots?

is different m2 slot have different characteristics? like my b560 ds3h rev.1 have 2 m2 slot (top and bottom). the top one i can easily put in the ssd on it but the bottom one i could not put it into the slot even after trying different angle and methods. i already took out the gpu so no movement restrictions but still cant. i need the bottom slot because my cpu is 10400f. my ssd is sx8200 pro 512 gb.

Both of the M.2 slots on that board are M key: https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Motherboard/B560M-DS3H-rev-10/sp
They should both be able to physically accept the same drives.

do i need a bit more force? because when the top one easily slot in than the bottom one makes me scare of breaking the ssd.

Just don't apply so much force that you'll break something. It never should take that much. It's possible that there's something wrong with the slot itself, but I don't know
1
u/PrinceVegetaa 3d ago
yeah u are right there might be a problem on the slot itself. i used the slot before but I'm not the one who assmble it the first time. i took the new ssd from the slot to put into my new pc but days later when i tried to put my old ssd (from the original build) back into the bottom slot im having hard time.

Think I can sell a 5070 FE for the same price I'd buy a 9070 xt anytime soon?
1
u/BlaBlub85 2d ago
Too late for that Im afraid, 9070xt's have been going up in price like crazy the last 2 months vs Nvidias being relatively stable outside of the 5090
You could have done so 2 or 3 months ago but now the window is closed that baseline 9070xt's are going towards 1000€

u/I_Push_Buttonz 2d ago
Maybe.
Looking at completed eBay listings of 5070 FEs in the last month, I see a pretty wide range, with some selling for as little as $600 and some for as much as $900.
9070 XTs are about $800 these days.

Is 4x16 still bad for DDR5 (specifically using a B760M Aorus Elite DDR5 + CORSAIR VENGEANCE 6800MHz CL40 Intel XMP iCUE + i7 13th gen)? I remember some people mentioning this lead to crashes and whatnot, so I'm worriexd about upgrading mine

u/Cer_Visia 2d ago
With two sticks per channel, the RAM must run at a lower speed. The BIOS does this automatically, but if you think that 3600 MT/s is not what you paid for and try to overclock the RAM to 6800 MT/s, it is very likely to crash.

Do I put my OS on a spinning hard drive if when I play demanding games they start freezing (I would even say hang) so much that they become not enjoyable. It's an old SATA SSD issue
2
u/Cer_Visia 2d ago
That would make it worse. Windows (not any game) is the most demanding load, and should be put on the best drive.
If your SSD is worn out, you should get a new one. Which one depends on your country, budget, and what your motherboard supports.
