You can also own the executable and burn that to a disc, should you choose. Bud chose an argument full of holes.

To what disc no one has disc drives on new build pcs anymore and they don’t come standard and have to be added on.  This is such a niche of a niche it’s absurd

I have some disk drives in my local store. fairly cheap, too.

Think you should read my other comments.  I’m not saying they don’t exist or no one uses them but when Linus gets teased for using them as an old man and all the tech channels use thumb drives to install stuff cause they don’t have disc drives it’s cause they’ve fallen out of style

what does fallen out of style mean? if I need to read (well, rip) disks, I buy one. there is an option, it's available. a lot of people don't do it? do I care?

It’s means the majority of people don’t have a disk drive in their system which is what my original comment was referencing.  A majority means that there will be a minority such as yourself that does have that ability but when the person I replied to makes a comment that involves people being able to do a thing and it’s in relation to someone saying PCs don’t use discs anymore.  Then it’s important to specify that you mean only if you have a disc drive installed

Cause if most people don’t have a disc drive in their system then like OP said most people aren’t using disc

well, yeah, disks are niche in modern PC space. and I outright don't care what other people use or not. my computer, I build it for what I need. if I need to rip disks at some point, yeah, I am getting that drive.

That’s good news the more people who use them the more they are available I too put one in my most recent build (not the one in my flair though that one has one too lol).  I’m just being real about the state of things is all

That doesn’t disprove my point tho

I said the majority aren’t getting disc drives in their pcs.  Honestly I would bet the numbers who got one in a new pc (or external) and the numbers who got an external disc drive for a PS5 Pro are similar

This is a sub that's all about building and modifying PCs. You're arguing that the option to get your own disc drive ("should you choose") is invalid because they don't come standard.

You're in the wrong place.

No I didn’t, you simply made a comment as if people could simply do this thing and I countered that people (and even ones modifying their pcs btw) aren’t doing disc drives so you can’t act as if they do

Like watch any tech channel video of the past 5 or 6 years and they installing windows on a thumb drive because there is no disc drives and these are channels for enthusiasts.  Do they occasionally add a disc drive?  Yes, Linus is especially fond of them but he gets teased about by the others on his staff

I’ve been building computers since 1995.  Hell I used the original disc drives and burners.  I know what sub I’m in

Nice essay. Still a terrible use of free agency and lack of literacy, though.

Ur jus in a sub when logic is applied some ppl. Like to throw it out d windows acc to their pref but will use the same logic to win when the argument suits thems.

Tbh for a sub that calls its self PCMR, sony has found a perfect way to live RENT free in this subs head

It’s cause they cause they used to be able to hold it over Sony fans head that it didn’t cost much to have a PC more powerful than a PS4 and ever since the PS5 came out that hasn’t been true.  You’ve needed to spend twice as much at least and now with AI increase in prices it’s real bad

So for some reason they’re taking it out on Sony instead of who they should be taking it out on which is AMD and NVIDIA (and others) for making it so expensive to PC game vs Sony who do what they can to keep the hardware cheap (I know the economics of ownership work differently but there are definitely things they could do and also not saying Sony should be rooted for after some of their moves).  Jensen just loves that NVIDIA stock price is what it is and doesn’t care about pc builders at all and I wish they’d be a little more upset about that instead of falling for the distraction that is Sony

I don't like disks as storage much. disk rot can show up at any time, and considering how disks are "put away, and forget"-type storage, I will not detect it until too late.

As a man with a massive 4K collection, I hear ya. However, our bodies could give out at any point as well. Nothing is permanent.

The point is that on PC we have a bevy of options to backup whatever we want however we choose.
