Yeah. Hopefully it can be cracked.

It's not guaranteed it will be. We are past the time where every software is breakable and Nintendo has done an incredibly good job on the software side of of both the switch 1 and switch 2. The switch 1 was hacked only due to hardware flaws, there were never any software based attacks past early versions. So really all they had to do on the switch 2 is improve the hardware side and it seems like they did.

We are past the time where every software is breakable

This has been said since time immemorial.

Yeah, but nowadays we have practical examples. For example Apple's SPTM never had a public exploit in it's software since it's introduction in late 2023, the only public bypass sidestepped it over a coprocessor, but there has yet to be a publicly known bug in the software itself.

Also in the case of the Switch, someone literally reimplemented the entire Kernel from scratch and still did not find a single security relevant bug in it during that process.

It is possible to write bug free software if the code base is small, the bigger it gets, the harder it gets.

This is true, but it only applies to known exploits and bug classes. Things like Spectre/Meltdown were brand new at the time and threw a huge wrench into otherwise secure code.

I agree with you overall though AI also has sped up the ability to work on these problems if you have the know how and money to spend on it.

Also for the iPhone example there is also the fact that serious exploits for iPhones are worth serious money to spy agencies. Turning down million dollar paydays to release the info publicly is a hard choice.

Yes but they also need to prevent modchips too and wow I didn’t know the iOS jailbreak guy is in pcmasterrace

If there's a will there's a way! For all we know there's an undiscovered hardware flaw in the Switch 2 waiting to be found!

True. However later versions of the Switch had to have hardware flaws introduced via modchips, which perform voltage glitching on the console during boot to skip integrity checks.

If there is a will, there is a way. Someone will scan the PCB, find the data lines, and start experimenting. Could be years but it will happen.

yes, but even the voltage glitching relied on one specific oversight (iirc they tried randomizing the timings but forgot it in one place or something like that idk I'm not a hardware hacker), so even that may be difficult this time around.

If Anthropic is to be believed (ha), all you gotta do is just leave Claude unsupervised for an hour and it'll hack the nuclear codes, so... Maybe AI will have precisely one (1) cool use case.
