News/Article The PS5 system itself is running on pc

Recently, we have seen massive developments in PS5 emulators (such as shadPS4 and Kyty), and how rapidly they have progressed in a short period.

Now, developers have successfully booted the actual PS5 system software on PC.

If this momentum continues in the future, it will eventually allow players to run PS5 exclusives directly on PC, marking the end of the era of console exclusivity.

Can the PS5 firmware be installed onto the BC-250 to make basically a homemade PS5 S model?

Given that it's largely the same hardware (just a little neutered) wouldn't it be pretty well optimized for it?

You gotta get fancy, as it has no video encoding/decoding, theres a github fix out there. As for the OS, this isnt a FW. You would have to install windows/Linux first and wouldnt be worth it at that point.

Is there more detail about this? I only got as much info as the original post, claiming modders "successfully booted the actual PS5 system software on PC." I thought that meant bare metal, but if it's just running on top of another OS that's less exciting. Regardless, it's probably within the realm of possibility that we may see it booting off the BC250 APU in the future.

I'm sure some people would get creative and modify the kernel and OS to best support the hardware, including adding in support for decoding, allowing the game to utilize all available cores, removing any background bloat, disabling the background recording.

The biggest issue is probably performance of the 1x m.2 slot which would severely degrade loading performance and asset streaming.

Yes its running on another OS. It needs that OS for hardware drivers and whatnot. There's rarely a market/desire for hardware specific setups. When you can just emulate across all OSs easily enough https://github.com/sharpemu/sharpemu
