News/Article The PS5 system itself is running on pc

Recently, we have seen massive developments in PS5 emulators (such as shadPS4 and Kyty), and how rapidly they have progressed in a short period.

Now, developers have successfully booted the actual PS5 system software on PC.

If this momentum continues in the future, it will eventually allow players to run PS5 exclusives directly on PC, marking the end of the era of console exclusivity.

Majority of the software has been translated, can't believe we might get gta 6 in time of release via emulation of ps5. Sony fucked up killing all their good will.

Probably not unless they get the current PS firmware working. Rockstar said the game would require the latest firmware to work. The jailbreaks use an older firmware to work. I haven't looked into this specifically, but if it's using an older firmware, it ain't playing GTA6.

Only a matter of time.

Hm, not necessarily unfortunately. The old OS got fully cracked because it had a bug in the hardware key verification system (if I remember correctly) which is now patched. Sure, no software is 100% unhackable, but Sony would’ve gone over that with a fine tooth comb by now. If the hardware key verification can’t be overcome, it’s impossible to emulate 1-1

Oh dam your right, guess my hopes just came crashing. Still great to see so much progress on emulation.

Back to the good old PSP days, where there was a race to jailbreak all the firmware updates. Younger me when I realized I could get all the games I wanted for free, plus play with homebrew and so on. Custom firmware was so fun. I remember buying that modded battery to be able to jailbreak my PSP.

Why do people always have to couch their piracy as morality?  This would have been done whether or not they killed their "good will".

You’re both right. It would’ve happened regardless, but because of Sony’s decision to pull their games from Steam, you’re going to see a lot of support for emulation from the crowd that would’ve gladly bought these games on PC. I don’t think his statement has anything to do with morality, it’s just an objective fact. Pirates were always going to pirate, but their decision to pull games from Steam is going to turn a lot of would-be customers into pirates as well.

Hey this is me. I bought most Sony games on Steam. Now I can't anymore so I'm going to emulate them. Not buying a PS5 for 2 or 3 games
