News/Article The PS5 system itself is running on pc

Recently, we have seen massive developments in PS5 emulators (such as shadPS4 and Kyty), and how rapidly they have progressed in a short period.

Now, developers have successfully booted the actual PS5 system software on PC.

If this momentum continues in the future, it will eventually allow players to run PS5 exclusives directly on PC, marking the end of the era of console exclusivity.

Yeah, I demand to be tortured and killed by a human, not a soulless machine!

If I'm getting electrocuted through nipple clamps or getting my finger nails ripped out I demand a god damned living breathing human to get ptsd and lead to a life of reckless alcoholism damnit.

Unironically, yes. The horrors of war needs to be felt by the perpetrators or there will be no limits to how far they will go. The more removed people are from the situation, the more abstract it becomes and the easier it gets to ignore the effects it has on the victims.

The drone footage is insane. It's already robots vs. Humans. Pumped to emulate a system I will never buy. I stopped after PS3. I'm not paying a service fee to play online.

Especially when sony isn't hosting the game servers. That was the point once upon a time.

There's an old Star Trek episode about that! Kirk and buds visit a planet that is "at war" but gradually realize that both sides have agreed to simply simulate casualties and order their citizens into suicide booths, rather than actually blow up buildings and have a mess to clean up. Ultimately the war is doomed to go on killing forever, because nobody is actually reckoning with the real cost anymore.

They do, via suicide booth.

Oh, old info. Up to 19TB now. I just hoard data and it's a combination of the system drive, a lot of game installs and tiered storage for caching and improving the performance of the mechanical disks.

Living people have felt the horrors of war for millenia. It hasn't exactly helped. There are tens of millions of people out there - more than enough to staff the armies of the most brutal countries - who want no more than the ability to kill/torture people with no repercussions.

Hell, one can argue that a soulless machine looking for the most efficient way to achieve a task in war is better than a living human torturing someone, or killing way more people than required, merely because he enjoys doing so.

I worry that the increasing industrialization of it will only make it worse. It might not have been prevented entirely by the human element being present so far, but I certainly don't think it's going to get better when there is even less cost, especially to a stronger aggressor, in terms of it becoming more and more of a "thing that happens in some other faraway place" and there's not even soldiers returning home and talking about what took place from a direct point of view. When it's all automated it really will just be numbers on a page somewhere and a math equation to solve before deciding to wipe out hundreds of thousands or millions of lives, much more so than it has been in the past.

I'm sure there are numerous counterpoints to what youre saying but one strong example i can think of is during the Cuban missile crisis. Look up Vasili Arkhipov, Russian officer that refused to agree to launch a nuclear torpedo when the other officers were in agreement to do so.

A robot would have just accepted the command and launched, starting a global nuclear war.

Yeah at least you know they have feelings and sooner or later their time will run out. That gives me some peace in that context.

Will the enemy be goth mommies?

That would require them having a conscience which they may or may not have in the first place.

Ever heard Dan Carlin's Blueprint for Armageddon series? In podcast episode 55, at about the two hour and five minute mark he retells British Private Alfred Grosch's story of being captured by the Germans:

Captured on 22 March 1918, lying out in the open with a young soldier who has a bad head wound. The first wave of Germans is almost on top of them. Carlin reads his account:

"Leave it to me, boy. We're done. We're prisoners now. Do whatever I tell you."
I wait a second and then "Up," I say, "and take your helmet off." We do so. The German in front of me says "Ah," raises his rifle and takes aim. I mutter to myself: "I hope to God he won't pull that trigger."
For ten seconds we remain so. Then he lowers his rifle, and says what I take to be "wounded?" I nod and say, "yes, yes." He beckons and we approach… The German has spared us. Would we have spared him under the circumstances? God knows. Perhaps not.

The passage ends here.

I'll gladly take my chances and throw myself at the mercy of another human being any day. At least then there's a chance. A mindless machine programmed to kill humans won't stop for anything. There is no capacity for mercy there, no compassion.

I'm not going to be haunting the mind of a machine. At least I can out traumatising a human lol

u/Aeroncastle 8d ago

You are joking, but one thing that keeps fascist in check is that I was done by humans, isso if it gets too horrible that person changes their minds, AI can't do that

“*Thinking…

processing..

decombobulating…

You’re right, I shouldn’t have obliterated all human life. That’s on me. Would you like me to research ways to revert this?”

Also we can make our own Ai powered killing machines and start our own war against....people who park badly. Or people who smoke right outside an entrance to a building.

At least without AI their torture/murder throughput would be a lot lower.

This reminds me of Ted Cruz saying he’d rather have American murder bots than Chinese murder bots lmao

This but unironically

The saw franchise ahead of its time. Human AND machine.

I mean, if you're going to be tortured and killed, wouldn't you at least like to know that there's a chance your death will haunt and torture the conscience of the perpetrator?
