Frontier AI si scary good at decomping and recomping stuff now and that's exactly what emulators require.

Because most of decomping is difficult but boring work. An agent doesn't care about boredom.

It’s verifiable work so it’s easier to train the AIs on

It's also very well-paid work if you can do that, because it's a fairly rare skill set.

Sadly those recomps/decomps with ai often don't have simple options like downscaling.
