I really needed this the other day when some dumbass was calling valve a monopoly and is bad and should be broken up.

If there is one thing confuses the F out of me, it's the "Steam is a monopoly" bs. They do nothing to stop people from selling games on other platforms. How would one even "break them up"?

The only thing these people an point to is "not selling a game cheaper on other platforms", but as far as I've been able to find that only applies to steam keys sold on other platforms.

Valve gets nothing from steam keys sold from Amazon or anywhere else. The seller takes the 30% valve  would get if the key is sold through steam, but they still foot the bill for the server costs when customers download the game and updates as well as multi-player if the game integrates into that.

Meaning that if you sell a game on origin or any other distributor that isn't just giving a steam key you can charge whatever you want.
