You guys really want to start this discussion under post about Sony? Should I remind you what was public image of Sony before PS5 era? Probably the same as Steam. Problem with Valve being monopoly is not about their current actions but unhealthy market share that can lead into very grim future the moment they decide to use their advantage. It will be interesting to see if all of you will be as sure about steam future in moment of Gaben death. You paint this discussion in black-white manner but it really is not. Many of us just think we could really use some serious competition. Epic Games seems more like free games machine, while GOG is niche.

I mean he isn’t some medieval king where the moment he dies they immediately scrounge around for a heir to take over, Gabe has been training/ bringing up a successor for years(and it’s been stated that he has a very minor role at valve now)

Do you really think someone has smart and forward thinking as Gabe doesn’t have a plan to ensure his legacy and intent for steam continuing after his death? Because he has been very clear on what/how he wants steam to be as a service since like 2003, it’s part of the reason he didn’t buckle when VISA went after 18+ games. It’s really not that crazy an idea for someone new to take over and run it the same way Gabe did for the next 20+ years, especially since valve is a private company and basically never need to worry about cash flow.

He is an oligarch like all the rest. He owns a fleet of superyachts worth a billion dollars. He is just as greedy as all the rest, otherwise he'd have lowered the 30% fees already.

You can be all those things and still properly plan for a successor for your life’s work though?… like they aren’t mutually exclusive
