This is the same Sony from the '90s? Man.. how far from grace they've fallen.

Microslop isn’t far behind if they move forward with ads in their games.

I feel like this has to be more of a "it gives us precedence to sue if others do it" because by recent slightly positive moves in the Xbox and Microsoft gaming departments it'd have to be actual corporate suicide if they put mid rolls in the next microslop title

I think you’re too optimistic, unfortunately. All it takes is the board members to decide, and they don’t give a shit about gaming at all

But we can hope. We can hope that Microslop has seen the error of their ways and is now standing between us and the malicious ad-meisters.

Yeah they're still thinking about how gaming was pre 2015s... it's pretty much over at this rate we have no proper government to regulate anything either. Just corruption and scams all over.

Their parent company is baking ads into core parts of their operating system...

The ads in the corner of the task bar are very non intrusive, easy to ignore.

If they put adds like that on a video game it's probably going to receive an insane amount of backlash that whatever game they shove it in will probably go into a deficit.

Idk maybe I'm too bright eyed and optimistic to think that one of the largest corporations in the world has a firm enough grasp on marketing to not blow their foot off the first chance they get.

No such thing as non-intrusive ads. If they were, microslop wouldn't put them. It's to set precedence and soften up their clients.

Yeah maybe.

Having a patent on something will ensure that others don't flaunt the risk and simply don't do it. Which is honestly fine, it probably takes more time to tap your phone or smart watch than it would to just have the online store that already has your payment details simply make the damn payment.

Nothing will stop em. Sure Microsoft is the good guy for now and raking in all that sweet PR , but it’s like a pendulum that is swinging back and forth. Before you know it Sony will be good guy and Microsoft bad guy once again.

there's no good guys at the top of the ladder, even valve has its issues it's just their the least evil of all the corporate overlords.

But idk, I have some very minor misplaced faith that Microsoft has enough self awareness in at least a single department not to pull the pin on the hand grenade that is midroll advertisements in video games.

They act in bad faith to make as much profit as they can, but they can't seriously be enough out of touch to literally nuke themselves like that

I completely believe it’ll happen, but now isn’t the time

You must be young if you really believe a corporation wont try and make money.

I believe someone at the company somewhere is self aware enough that putting actual commercials in video games will be a deficit... They're evil money grubbing bastards... But they have to understand the market at least mildly to profit off it... They can't possibly be tonne deaf enough to actually just nuke themselves like that... It'd be funny though

Ads in game for a game pass plan tho isnt it?

I doubt it be ads in a game where you paid $80 for.

3

u/DeathInHiDef 19d ago

Oh maybe.

To be slightly fair, it's a patent. Sony has had a patent that TVs don't advance ads unless you are paying attention for years and never done anything with it.

This might be the same. And it also means no one else can do it without paying Microsoft, which in ad term usually don't make sense

Yeah but microsoft has always been scumbags.
