"leave a tip?"

You get prompted every time you go to turn off the console.

You gotta tip to turn off tips

They probably shame you for turning it off knowing American tipping culture.

Imagine they want a tip after every $70 game you buy, then plus PS PLUS Charges to even get online then they ask you for a 20% tip on your order total the game is now $84 base if you did that lol

Oh then they make 'tipping' not optional like American tipping too.

Completely unrelated to the topic but your setup is so dope,

How is that different than storing payment info on Sony account?

It's not. All it would do is give another easier way to play with a different credit card. This doesn't unlock the concept of "paying to obtain stuff" so 90\% of the comments here are uust Redditors being Redditors

Plus a patent means next to nothing. They do patents all of time for things that never get implemented

It's an NFC reader that can also share media from for example your smartphone or reading your ID for age identification. Multiple countries are currently looking at identification to visit websites or apps.

Privacy is basically gone indeed. Unless they use anonymous tokens to verify your age without actually sending the data who you are to the website or social media you want to visit.

Honestly I'd rather have an app on my phone that can have 2FA local biometrics, and have it send a highly trusted yes/no response, even if it meant a lot more devices had the ability to tap to pay or what ever this BS is.

It's frankly ridiculous that all the governments are rushing to implement all these horrific privacy violations without any of them implementing any solutions that don't risk massive data leaks. Let alone what we've seen with the inside workings of stuff like Persona collecting every crumb of data it can possibly get about you in the process.

As much as I trust our governments about as much as a guy on a bus in a trench-coat right now, I'd still rather they have access to the data they could already realistically obtain, than handing it out to Peter Thiel or the rest of the paypal mafia.

Unfortunately it feels like I'm in the minority, as every iteration of Valve's pro privacy roll outs get a lot of backlash.

thats what using a system like the german eID would provide. unfortunately not widely adopted though.

End stage capitalism: tap to pay to use the controller

That's what the disc slot is turning into. There's not enough room inside the console for a credit card reader. So to keep it as slim as they'd like your wallet to be, they'll turn the disc slot into a void where your money goes into.

It will continuously charge your card until you can disassemble the console to retrieve your card.

Sony could easily make a detachable card reader for the PS5 digital edition.

If you pull it out, you get 60s before the game stops.

Tap to pay sensor so strong it can smell your credit card from the front porch

I’m not even mad anymore at this point. For one I don’t play on consoles and for the other I just play retro games. If they fuck that too then I’ll just stop playing games altogether or something. Too busy working, too tired when I get home, and don’t have the money or motivation to buy new games all the time anymore much anyway.

Sony is getting rid of physical disc drives while also preparing to building tap-to-pay credit card readers into their controllers. I’m not only not okay, I’m just over it.

1

u/SalamanderFickle9549 18d ago

You can't turn on your controller unless you have a credit card plugged in

1

u/Chuckrange 18d ago

The real reason they removed the disc drive, they needed to free up space for this

That would be a step back from the card reader in the controller though

Chip reader.
