What does it mean if my computer crashes within the first 5 minutes of turning it on for the day, then never crashes again after I turn it on the second time?

Thank you.

Crash as in BSOD, just randomly turning off, or something else? If it's a BSOD, checking in Event Viewer to find the error code and which driver caused it would help a lot in figuring out what's going on. If it just randomly turns off, that's probably a power supply issue or loose connection that only causes problems at low temperatures.

It's something else. The GPU fans start to go crazy fast, monitor goes black, but I can still hear the audio and I can still use the keyboard and mouse. Graphics card is an RTX 5080 and I have 850W GOLD ATX 3.0 power supply.

Thank you.

If you had asked 3 years ago, the answer would be no. Now? Keep everything alive. Building a new machine is too expensive. Even things that seem reasonable are close to twice as expensive as a year and a half ago.

That was kind of my thought process. Its honestly such a shame because I finally have a job to where I feel comfortable spending some money on myself. But with the price increases a new build seems like a waste.

Any tips or thoughts on the revival? I know it has some Nvidia and AMD parts inside but idk what. It played Minecraft with some light modding just fine when it was newer. I plan on factory resetting it to rid it of the who knows how many junk files, viruses, and malware. I needed a wifi thing back in the day so I imagine itll need another dongle or a wifi chip.

It had slowed down significantly when I was towards the end of my using it. But I would think that could be a storage, OS, etc issue

I have a 4tb external hdd where I store some backups I realized I never defragged it but I know for sure that a good defrag would help, Windows doesnt let me because of the file format i put (i use both macos and win hence why) any way to defrag this hdd???

Are your backups a large number of small files? Most backup software I've seen packs all the little files into one or a few large files, and fragmentation isn't much of a problem with a few large files. If the drive is noticeably slower recently, that's probably because it's filling up and using the inner portions of the platters where data can't be read or written as fast as the outer portions. If you still think you need to defrag it, maybe MacOS has a way to do so?

i could theoretycally take out the files but separately in different folders because my ssd on my desktop is 3tb so it wont fit everything because I also got stuff in there already so I can empty it format it and put the stuff back in, but all the folders would be across 3 drives (4counting the external hdd)

A few questions about Windows 10 ESU:

- Is it possible to enroll without a MS account WITHOUT paying? If not, can I at least log out of the MS account and keep using my PC locally?

- Will OneDrive be activated/does it require it in any way?

- Will AI be inserted into my system in any way? (It's the main reason I don't want to update to 11, so this is important to me)

Just set up Win 11 without an MS account. You don't really have intrusive online features without an online account. None of the things you mentioned are necessary for either Win 10 or 11 if you use a local account. At most you will have to run a clean up tool to get rid of some bloatware if you really want that.

Is Win 11 really good enough? Like, you guys probably get this question all the time, but I genuinely hate how much AI is pushed into my face nowadays. I can deal with design changes and whatnot but I draw the line at AI everywhere. That aside, I've heard bad reviews from people who switched to 11 from 10 in general. My PC is good enough for the things I want to do (personal use and some gaming, but nothing too heavy) already so it's not like I'm worried about it running badly once I switch to 11 (once it's debloated, that is).

What are the intrusive online features, also? Is that where all the AI stuff is? I've seen people say Copilot runs on Notepad...

I've seen people say Copilot runs on Notepad

There was a single button in Notepad. It was removed.

You don't have to use any AI function. But if you really want to go the full privacy route, you will have to use Linux.

It's good to know there are ways to avoid all that bloatware if you're cautious about your setup. Local accounts definitely have their perks!

It's hard to recommend something just like that, maybe you can link 2-3 options you have and ask for opinions / explanations?

Hello, I'm deciding whether to get an RTX 2060 or GTX1080ti assuming both prices are the same. Which one should I get? Some people say stuff about modern gaming, etc., but which one is really better?

2

u/I_Push_Buttonz Sep 08 '26

1080 Ti is technically ~30% more powerful, but its also ancient and doesn't even have driver support anymore, but the 2060 is also ancient and probably not going to be supported much longer either so...

Personally I wouldn't buy either of them, but if I had to choose, I guess I would go with the 2060 because it at least still has driver support and is perhaps less likely to fail since its a few years younger.
