I've been considering buying a 5070 as im upgrading from a 4060 8GB but my PSU is a 650W PSU more specifically the "DN650" from "WJCOOLMAN" I run an I5 14400F alongside my 4060 but my main question is should I get a PSU upgrade before buying the 5070? or is it probably gonna run fine at 1440P?
Just looking for a tired opinion, but with a twist since the setup is different. I’m using a tower air CPU cooler in a Silverstone FLP02 case. There’s only two 120mm front fans towards the bottom front of the case. And nothing towards the front top, just bays.
Would it be better to put one top front fan as air intake to help the CPU cooler? Or nothing at all. Exhaust there seems pretty pointless because of my blu-ray drive and other 5.25” fillers.
The front only has 2x 120mm by the bottom. Technically a third would be in the front as intake however the fake floppy bays block it. I was thinking of adding one extra intake but on the top towards the front with the other two front intake fans to help the CPU cooler.
I would use the front fans as intake. And I am 99% certain the case is intended to be used that way.
What is even the alternative? You use the back/top as intake and reverse the CPU cooler to blow to the front, and then the hot air has to be pushed down instead of moving upwards? I don't see why the fans would be set up that way. Maybe you have some insight that I don't have, but I can't see how this would make sense.
im not sure if i should make a post for this but i'll try here first to start off.
i've been experiencing some lag for a while now on my PC while gaming i've been quite busy last couple months so i haven't had the chance to game as much between college and working a part time job but i got a couple days off coming up and would like to spend it gaming on a pc thats not fps dropping every 5min. im not sure what it is exactly but it seems like it might be my GPU maybe ? it happens almost like clock work every couple minutes i get a spike that lasts a couple seconds my fps drops from like 200+ to 15-20 i've only really been playing like 1 or 2 matches of TFT or league of legends aram every other night and these games aren't exactly highly demanding games my pc didn't have issues running them on mid to high settings at 200+fps before. I used to play WuWa couple months back on mostly high settings 120fps and that one had no issues before either but now i tried playing and its the same issue with league but the duration of the lag is longer compared to league my friend also played some games on my PC like DBD and also experienced same issue with every couple minutes there's a lag spike for a couple seconds. my specs you can see here: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/dangoking1/saved/#view=cNVpmG
I had some android emulators like bluestacks and LD player before but uninstalled those and the problem still persists but maybe they left some residuals that could be having an affect, i've tried capping the fps in my games to match my monitors one is 240hz the other is 144hz but that also didn't work, BIOS updates no luck either checked the temps while underload and both cpu and gpu didn't really go above like 70-72 except for when the lag spikes happen then the GPU does indeed jump to like 78 i think i think it was but goes back down when the lag spike ends, hence why i think it might be a GPU issue for now.
would love some advise/help on how i can troubleshoot the issue to see whats wrong and what i can do to fix it.
Well at almost exactly 5min the fps dropped from comfortably sitting on 160-165 to 12 and then after 15-20 secs it went back to normal, the temp is also been sitting at around 72-74° and the hotspot at around 90°
Edit: happened again at 10m10s and lasted till 10min25s
If it isn't overheating then it's likely either a GPU driver issue, or some program in the background is having massive problems.
You can try the following:
Use only one monitor to see if the driver has issues with two. Unfortunately that's quite common, at least for general problems.
Update the GPU drivers, or even uninstall them with DDU and install new ones.
Check the windows event log for errors during the FPS drops.
Disable all programs you have running in the background that you don't absolutely need.
Scan for viruses if you are using pirated software, sketchy websites etc. You can use e.g. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
Weelll heavily leaning on the virus side of things now.... Damn... I installed Malwarebytes and did a scan I had some threats and it made it clean them up or whatever but there's a connection to a potentially risky site that keeps popping up now that Malwarebytes is blocking and well in the meantime I had furmark running and there's no lag anymore... Did more scans with malware bytes but it says everything is clean now despite the fact that I'm still trying to get a connection with this site
Yeah that means you still have some malware. Make sure it's all gone, even if you have to delete and reinstall Windows. And better change your passwords, too.
I'm a building newbie dad trying to get a pre-teen started on a proper PC after a cheap laptop that doesn't cut it anymore. I apologize for what may be a repetitive query, but having searched the forum I didn't find enough guidance on what I think I can get where I am (in Europe). I come here having done some research on what's available at what prices (in these fun times) and having come up with the setup below. Is it a plausible option?
To explain in brief what I'm aiming for: a starter setup at a low-enough price that would hopefully last a few years and then allow for future upgrades as the kid becomes the architect of his own fate. If I understand it right, that means AM5 & DDR5 are the better specs to go for, although without selling a kidney that means being limited to 2x8GB RAM, leaving any upgrade for later. But as said I'm a newbie so any learned advice will be most welcome, and especially so if any of the components is a red flag or not a match with the others, or if anything crucial is missing (excepting monitor, keyboard and mouse, of course). Much obliged!
The main thing I'd change here is the CPU. I don't know what the prices are for you exactly, but if it's like it is in the US, it's worth spending a little bit more to get a 7500F, 7600, or 7600X instead of the 8400F. Despite what the naming might suggest, those 7000 series chips are better. The 8000 series are the same core microarchitecture as 7000 (Zen 4), but with half the L3 cache, and that hurts gaming performance pretty significantly. I'd expect an 8400F with this slower memory to be slower for gaming than a typical Zen 3 set up would be.
A DDR4 set up would be a solid choice too, but if you want to pay more upfront to get on the AM5 platform for upgradability then this works. You're basically spending more now to potentially save some later. Maybe that makes sense, and maybe it doesn't. It's not so cut and dried.
Thank you very much, another detail I wasn't aware of but gratefully acknowledge. The market is fidgety so currently I don't see comparable options but I'll be on the lookout. (I presently find 7600X and 7600 for some 70 and 80 EUR more, respectively.)
I imagine, but again might be wrong, that in terms of the current build staying at the wattage of 65 W might be slightly better than going to 105 W, so I'll be on the lookout for 7500F or 7600.
If you're gonna use Windows, I wouldn't use 7. Steam isn't supported on it anymore. I'd either install 10, or hack on a debloated 11 and try using the new Xbox Mode for a console-like experience. If you want to use Linux, you can get a console-like experience from it as well if you set it up that way.
As for what games you could play, it may not be able to handle the latest and greatest, but there are tons of games in the PC library that you could enjoy on that hardware. You'd probably want to stick to games that play well on controller if you're gonna be using one.
So I want to keep my computer awake after its idle for 3 hours so I can use it as media server. Problem is that I often leave something on that delays the sleep timer without noticing, such as a video or an app or a gif or something.
Is there any way to make it sleep regardless of what's happening on screen automatically (like ignore all the above examples and keep running the sleep timer), and say, only delay the sleep when receiving input so that it doesnt go to sleep while gaming? I've look into PowerToys but the Awake function doesnt seem to have what I need.
