They should have to disclose them as rentals.

They do that, since always

No, they have to have the "pay" button be listed EXPLICITLY as "rent"

Why though? "Buy" is also a correct term here. And how many games that you bought, did you lose access to later?

Every 2k game since 2016

But you can still play them?

Ubisoft's own The Crew, for one. Yeah, okay, I didn't actually buy it, I got it for free somewhere, but still. I can't play it anymore unless I download the pirated version with the offline patch, the existence of which proves that the game was taken away not for any technical reasons but simply to 'motivate' people to buy the sequel. It's not even just planned obsolescence, it's enforced obsolescence.

Yes, thats the popular one. Any other games that you lost access to?

I feel like some of the games on that list are kinda reaching a bit.

Burnout Paradise 2008 is there, but you can play it offline, you can even play multiplayer. Online multiplayer is literally the only thing that's disabled. Yet that's a game that's "dead"?

Or Might & Magic Heroes VI, the list says that when servers shut down "content that required online access was unlocked", isn't that what the majority of people have been campaigning for?

Arent 99% of these games just multiplayer games, that lost all players, thats why they got shut down?

I don't know, I haven't gone through the list in detail. You can do that if you want, but either way they meet your criteria as games that people bought and then lost access to.

I mean, thats pretty obvious that multiplayer games shutdown when they lose all the players. Everyone should know that

Buy the license

buy means own, meaning you'd own your license permanently, but ya don't

3

u/Hades684 Jun 17 '26

Since when does buying something means owning it permanently? You buy a license that allows you to play the game until license expires

if you buy a shovel, can someone take it away from you legally? no

6

u/Hades684 Jun 17 '26

Yeah, because you are buying a shovel, not a license for a shovel. If you bought a license that allows you to use shovel for 10 days, then they could take it away from you legally.

Its like you people dont think at all

You're getting downvoted, but you're right: the customer has never owned the game, not even on CD. I would have liked for "Stop Killing Games" to succeed, but I'm also a realist.

GoG wont put certain games on their website for this very reason. We should be pushing for better consumer practice.

Yeah. "Buy" a license that we can revoke at any moment for any reason or no reason at all. And you're bound by it, whereas we can change it at any time - and you will have to accept it, otherwise you cannot use the thing you supposedly "bought". Oh, and if we revoke your license, you aren't entitled to a refund or whatever, why would you be?

2

u/That_guy1425 Jun 17 '26

They actually can't revoke it for any reason as that would fall into their own breach of contracts, but they can enforce your violations and yes the agreement can change later.

3

u/Hades684 Jun 17 '26

Yes, thats exactly how it works, thank you
