Box Told the dude at micro center I was updating from a 4000 series to a 5000 series
he said I wouldn’t experience much of an upgrade, what do you think?

you are not lying about 4000 series unless you say to the dude "i am upgrading from 1GB DDR3 VRAM to 8GB GDDR7"

I went from a gtx 730 to an rtx 5060. The difference is overwhelming tbh but in a good way. Its like. What do I do with all this vram I suddenly have. Lol
15
u/jeffosoft Feb 07 '26
Upgraded your motherboard though right?
31
u/DFakeRP Feb 07 '26
A new computer entirely. The only downgrade is i now have to deal with windows 11 and hope it doesnt brick itself on an update one day

I’m still holding strong with my 3080. It works but I still want a 50 series !

Whats wrong with win11? ..no more win10 security updates pretty soon it'll be the standard no?
7
u/SlavaUkraina2022 Feb 07 '26
You should look up on some information about windows 11, it is why I’ve decided to stick to 10 for games for now but use linux as my daily driver on my laptop.
2
u/SupplyChainMismanage Feb 07 '26
I’ve yet to have an issue with windows 11 on my personal pc or work laptop for the past 2 years
1
u/Beneficial-Set-1427 Feb 10 '26
You might not have which is good but many have. Had my work laptop crash to BIOS and would not get past the bootloader after a Windows 11 update - only option was to reinstall the image.
Apart from issues that break things, Windows 11 also generally has worse performance. A game always runs at least a little worse on Windows 11 compared to Windows 10 or Linux.
7
u/Pretend-Marsupial258 What's a computer? Feb 07 '26
They're vibe coding the OS and breaking everything. The most recent patch can make your computer unable to boot with a "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" error. Like, Vista seemed more reliable at this point.
3
u/Mightymap2 Feb 07 '26
My win10 gave me a blue screen one time ended up formatting..multiple os is the way to go..

To be fair, AMD or Intel would be a better value. Is that reason enough to shit on this guy? No. At the end of the day, Nvidia does bring things to the table, and 8GB of VRAM is still more than serviceable.
The people here are just more tapped in and like to minmax their dollar value. I can't blame them.

9060XT 8GB, PCIE X16, 5060TI 8GB performance, or save for 9060XT 16GB which currently has one model on pcpartpicker at $400 while 5060TI 16GB is starting at $540 right now online at least.

Yea the Zotac 5060ti 16GB was $399 @ Microcenter last month. $499 now there.

Last month was a very different landscape, and online shows more of a "whole word" type of view of course regional differences exist, but most regions follow it somewhat.
5
u/707Brett Feb 07 '26
I paid 320 for this 5060 8gb, I don’t really play many new games so I only needed it for bf6. I’m pretty happy but do feel like 8gb limits me more than I expected. My budget was around $300 as I didn’t want to pay more than a ps5 to play bf6.
