Promotional Bagger: Scoop in Rust – drop in replacement 50x faster startup (Windows Package Manager)

https://github.com/vincentmathis/bagger

I use Scoop on Windows, and every command pays ~1s PowerShell startup tax. So i looked for rewrites in Rust for speed but there were only half finished projects. I finished the work.

Same buckets, same apps, same directories. It works with your current scoop setup but way faster:

Operation Scoop (PS) bagger Speedup
--version 993 ms 14 ms ~71x
list 1405 ms 26 ms ~54x
search python 1515 ms 30 ms ~51x
info 7zip 810 ms 26 ms ~31x

crates.io/bagger

I'm looking for users testing it if there are any differences in behavior to scoop. If you find anything please create an issue.

Cool. I don't use Scoop so I never ran into this - I use WinGet and don't notice the same problem. I wonder why the original Scoop is so much slower? If it has a ~1s delay on local commands, that sounds very annoying to use.

It's because Powershell takes a long time to start up and scoop is written in Powershell script. The search command takes extremely long like 20s and you notice everything just being slow even just listing installed apps.
