Favorite Model for fast responses/coding?

Anyone have a model they like that is super fast and good enough at coding? And maybe cheap?

Some people one-shot "create a first-person shooter" via vibe-coding and some give tasks like "add a new API call to this existing codebase to save and retrieve the user's sort preferences for this table." Those have different needs. Then there's writing the code vs the overall planning. And you don't necessarily need to use the same model for both.

If you need complex planning, to the extent that more intelligence is actually useful, ChatGPT 6.1 Sol and Claude Opus 5.5 are the best right now. That means getting a sub from OpenAI or Anthropic.

But do you need that kind of intelligence? The kind that didn't even exist 3 months ago? Or can you break up your own projects into manageable tasks that can be handled more reasonably? April 16, that's exactly 6 months ago, Opus 4.7 came out and was about the best you could get. Here are the current models that are roughly equivalent to it, but much cheaper:

  • GPT-6 Luna
  • Mimo-V2.6 Flash
  • Claude Haiku 5.5
  • Muse Spark 1.3 (The Contributor version, while much cheaper, means they will be training off your data.)
  • Deepseek V4.1 Flash
  • GLM 5.3 Flash
  • Qwen 3.8 Flash Next
  • Space Bunny (anecdotally. We don't have a ton of testing data on it.)

The fastest would either be Deepseek or Muse Spark. Followed by Luna and Haiku. Then GLM a bit behind but not too bad. Mimo and Qwen are disappointingly slow. Space Bunny is inconsistent, so I'd also put it in the slow category but it might surprise you.

So if you're going to go with the $10 Opencode Go you can pick from any of those 7. Different people have their favorites based on style and need.

Muse 1.3 contributor

Use plan mode always with subagents then build with one agent.

Gets a pretty good job done
