Announcement Posts concerning the conflict in Israel and Palestine / Publications au sujet du conflit en Israël et la Palestine
Hello everyone,
Due to current events, we have seen many posts about the Israel/Palestine conflict, typically about protests supporting one side of the conflict or the other, or articles about some statement made by a public figure.
In ALL those posts, the comments have devolved into insults, accusations of supporting terrorism/genocide and counter-accusations of [insert violent action here]. While each post starts with something related to our sub’s subject matter, they always end up being screaming matches about something that is not even related to Ontario.
It’s important to understand that the mods in the sub cannot, and will not, police who is ‘right’ in this debate. Additionally, when a large portion of the comments violate our rules (typically Rule 3: you must remain civil), we MUST intervene. However, since they ALL devolve into screaming matches, there’s no point in even trying to maintain a discussion that doesn’t even concern the sub’s raison d’être.
As such, going forward, and for the foreseeable future, ANY post related to the conflict in Israel/Palestine will be locked even if Ontario related. If it IS related to Ontario, it will remain visible but commenting will not be permitted.
The mods would prefer not to do this, but the last few days have clearly shown that there is not realistic way to permit commenting on these posts while maintaining some form of decorum.
2026-09-22: reposted due to several recent events having posts locked.

Discussion St. Joseph’s Healthcare in London, ON is getting rid of almost 100 Nurses from their Mental Health Program
Just got an email today, it’s happening. They are decreasing 60 full time, 25 part-time RNs across the inpatient and outpatient teams, in addition to removing 31 RN positions across its ambulatory and outreach teams. This is all because they were in a 4.8 million dollar deficit. No one knew this was happening until this morning. What are some of these people going to do, there’s barely any nursing jobs right now, everything is so expensive. Such a terrible and sad time to be an RN in Ontario. During the pandemic we were hero’s, but now it’s like we mean nothing

Discussion Bike lanes save lives
@DougFord and all anti bike lane peoples -
The bike lanes that cost millions of dollars to install, studies show reduce traffic and save lives, are now being ripped out. Ps there is parking everywhere in this city, everywhere. People choosing not to drive are not the traffic problem.
Ontario tax payers are now paying again millions of dollars to a shady contractor to have these lanes ripped out. These bike lanes being removed will force cyclists into the car lanes, which ps isn't going to help traffic, as they weren't impeding it anyways.
When the first cyclist fatalities inevitably begin to happen where those bike lanes once existed, we don't want your thoughts and prayers - this was preventable
Love the cycling community

Discussion The Ontario Place appeal isn’t really about Ontario Place — it’s about whether a province can write itself out of judicial review
Today is the day. The Rebuilding Ontario Place Act exempts the province from environmental and heritage legislation and limits legal claims arising from the redevelopment. The appeal argues the second part crosses a constitutional line.
The reason this isn’t a Ontario story: Alberta, Saskatchewan, BC, Quebec, Yukon and the federal government have all intervened alongside Ontario. Whatever the Court says about how far a legislature can go in limiting review of its own conduct applies to every province.
Worth reading the Canadian Constitution Foundation’s intervention in particular — they’re not usually on the same side as Greenpeace and the CCLA.
Will courts in Canada be rendered useless?
Will this story be covered in Canadian press?
We will find out today on Ottawa at the Supreme Court!

Picture Fall Photos from Eagle's Nest in Bancroft, Ontario
I took some photos this morning from Eagle's Nest Park in Bancroft. It's a really amazing time of year. Highly recommending coming here, but if you cannot, just make sure to go out and explore Autumn in your area.
Right now is the best time of year for Ontario. Beautiful Scenery, No Bugs and decent temperature.
Cheers!

Question Does anyone know if a Transitional Care Unit (rehab centre for people leaving hospital) can discharge someone if they are unsafe? I'm having trouble understanding how the system works
My mother has dementia and keeps falling and breaking bones. She falls about 4 times a day now and breaks a new bone every week. The hospital keeps putting pressure on me to take her home but because I can't watch her 24 hours a day I can't keep her safe.
I know that hospitals are not supposed to discharge people if they would be unsafe at home, but I'm not sure how the process works for transitional care units (rehab centers)? I feel like the hospital social worker and health at home care coordinator are not being honest with me and just want to clear a hospital bed.
We are on the waitlist for LTC with regular status and want to change to crisis status. But the care coordinator is refusing to do an assessment unless we let her move back home! It seems like the health at home care coordinator is on the side of the hospital (pushing for me to take her back).
I've read a few posts here about hospitals doing an unsafe discharge but I haven't found anything about how TCUs work. Are they allowed to force an elderly person with dementia back home even if they are falling and it is unsafe for them? Or does that standard only apply to hospitals?
What usually happens if a patient is still a risk to themselves even after spending 3 or 4 weeks in a TCU? What happens to them after that?

Discussion All of Ford’s anti bike crackdowns are being done to defend the US auto industry.
Doug ford is demanding we buy cars, probably US makes given what’s made and sold around here, instead of the bikes we already own. Why is “Captain Canada” doing everything he can defend US industry?
