A B.C. Conservative MLA represented herself as a medical doctor. She isn’t.

Think about how ridiculous this actually is.
BC Conservative MLA Jody Toor repeatedly presented herself as a medical doctor, even wearing a lab coat with "MD" embroidered on it. Yet reporters couldn't find evidence she ever earned a medical degree. Her supposed PhDs come from an unaccredited institution that admits its qualifications aren't equivalent to an MD.
Questions about her credentials were raised BEFORE the 2024 election. The BC Conservatives ran her anyway, and then appointed her caucus chair.
So what exactly did the party verify before approving her candidacy? Did anyone bother checking her qualifications? And why was she rewarded with a leadership position after these concerns were made public?
Forget party politics for a moment. If we expect honesty about qualifications from someone applying for a regular job, why on earth should we accept anything less from an elected official?

The big political lesson: lying and cheating works. She wanted to an MLA and now she is. Look south of us, being competent is not even a requirement for governing so why not lie?

If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'! We should all be cheating and lying in every facet of our lives. Make up qualifications, cheat on that test, scam someone down at your local cornerstore, and maybe one day you too can be an candidate for the Conservative Party of BC!

If you can let go of your self respect, the world is really your oyster. People who play by the rules have a lot harder time getting ahead in life .

Yep, it's exactly why sociopaths are vastly overrepresented among CEOs, billionaires and the like. You often have to fuck over a lot of people to get to that level of power, so empathy is a crutch in that regard

Not a single Conservative voter finds any of this disqualifying. Not falsifying a medical career, not calling for the deaths of protesters, not doubling down on racist comments implying Muslims are pro-rape, not denying residential schools, not denying COVID, not claiming wearing masks during a pandemic will lead to everyone eating bugs, not being caught openly bragging about how they will use elected office to personally enrich themselves, not openly running on the erasure of trans people from society. Eby called an election and used $10 day care, so for that, apparently, we must swing the pendulum all the way to the right of MAGA. Given they haven't released an actual platform and don't even have an official leader, I wouldn't be surprised if on day 1 of the new Conservative government, they announce BC is the 51st state.

I don't think saying shit like this helps. We are not the US, our government is not even 1/100th as corrupt and stupid as them, and voting for BC elections hasn't even begun. The conservatives winning isn't some predetermined outcome.
Eby explained in today's debate that he called an election because they didn't have enough of a majority to govern and were getting stuck in tied votes. Avoiding permanent legislative gridlock ala the US is actually a very good reason to call an election and we don't have to vote against NDP for it.

In order to punish Eby or whatever, this province is gonna vote into power the most embarrassing cadre of circus freaks.

I hope you're right and I hope you drive a bus full of voters to the polls. Cause this is looking Alberta-levels of bad.

Bert Chen, the Conservative candidate running in Cowichan, was removed from the federal Conservative Party's national council because of complaints about his conduct. He was later suspected of being involved in foreign interference, although news reports don't show if anything came of that. He also ran for city council in Langley in 2011 and spent time working at a law firm in Bejing. His campaign bio makes it sound like he is just a small business owner. My point is that it wouldn't hurt to do a bit of internet searching before you vote.

This reminds me of my mate’s dad; he was head of a medical department of city in the UK. One day he up and left and his son n daughter were left holding the “baby” when it was discovered he had no medical qualifications. Everyone was in total shock. How the hell did this guy reach the top of his profession on nowt but bullshit!

So scary that BC voters might punish themselves for Eby's mistakes.

If you take a sample of the pro-Conservative comments over on /r/vancouver, it seems the best reason anyone can come up with to vote for them is literally spite. No specific policy, no principles, they just want to "punish" Eby for the terrible terrible crime of (checks notes) calling an election.

We had an Attorney General in Ontario who pretended to be a lawyer but had never passed the bar exam.
So, naturally, she was given the title without having to do any work or paying any fees.

Mulroney was admitted administratively under a 2021 amendment to Ontario's Barristers Act. This provision allows any former Attorney General of Ontario to be automatically called to the provincial bar without paying licensing fees, fulfilling practice requirements, or passing the traditional bar exams.

Who needs to work hard when you can just become a Conservative MPP?

Andrew Mercier is a much better choice for Langley-Willowbrook! A real community leader who knows how to help the people that live here.
