I think it's a satire. I saw that guy several times, with different things like the apple and the doctor, or the hare from the turtle and the hare.

You should watch the video, it's quite funny. "They are. . . trying to call me up to an air force base in Jordan."

Erics realm is less grounded in reality that Dan
Dan is Ment to be dry humor in a non dry reality while Eric doesn't have anyone to connect too letting him be as abstract as possible
He is funnier than modern Dan mostly because Dan has clearly started running out of ideas (I do think Dan would be perfect on "Make Some Noise" though
