Queen Zamami cancellation

Hi,

Queen Zamami got cancelled due to weather. We were able to get tickets for Ferry Zamami on the same day. From what we understand we are entitled to a refund of original ticket but it’s been a week and no news. Anyone been through the same and knows if it’s normal?

Thank you

Please help me find this Okinawa keyring for my 6 year old 🥺

Hi everyone!

Is there anyone currently in Okinawa who could help me get a replacement for this keyring? My 6 year old daughter has lost hers and she is so devastated! We visited Okinawa in July this year and had the best time, and this keyring was her favourite memento of the holiday.

Unfortunately I don't have a better photo of the keyring, but it is an acrylic pineapple charm that opens like the example on the right, and inside is a pink shisa holding a pink and blue ice cream. We bought it in a gift shop at Okinawa World, but I'm certain I saw this exact one in many other souvenir shops around the island.

I would be eternally grateful if anyone could find this keyring and mail it to us in Sydney, Australia. I can pay via paypal and/or send something cool from Australia to you in exchange! Thank you thank you thank you in advance to anyone who can help!

EDIT: u/CuteConference2305 has found the exact thing on the manufacturer's website. Unfortunately the pineapple one is sold out, but this is the one: https://imagedelivery.net/QondspN4HIUvB_R16-ddAQ/6109f20646e30e69263e85c3/befb1460a9270962ad24.jpg/original
Specifically the pink one, bottom right.

Help!

My wife and I are going to Okinawa for 5 days and are staying in Onna (October 16-22), considering it’s 2 hours of commute each way from my hotel to the Island of Zamami, I want to know if it’s worth a day trip.

we’ve been travelling around Japan for 2 weeks and now get to spend 5 nights relaxing and I am wondering if 4 hours of commute is worth it.

if the beaches are truly a unique experience and are as nice as the pictures then we’re willing! we don’t know if we’ll ever be back in Okinawa.

anyone’s thoughts from their personal experiences is greatly appreciated

Do artists escape to Okinawa as well?

Hello, I was curious to know if there was an underground art scene in Okinawa.

I'm an artist from Korea and our equivalent of Okinawa is Jeju Island; lots of artists move there to escape the busy city life, as I had done so myself.

And as I am traveling to the (main) island soon, I was wondering if I could connect with anybody down there? If I had to be specific, I'd say ambient music. But anything that's not mainstream is good as well.

Thanks,

Zhyvago Coffee Roastery

Just visited Okinawa and tried Zhyvago Coffee. This was maybe the best vanilla lattes i've ever had in my life. Anyone know why this is so good? Do they use cream instead of milk? Are their beans really just the best? Any tips anyone has on how to make a coffee similar to this I would much appreciate it.. I fell in love with their coffee.

Activities in Okinawa when it rains?

Hey me and my girlfriend are in Okinawa, the first 4 days were nothing short of amazing! But the past 2 days it’s been raining and kinda messed up our plans, can anyone recommend stuff to do on the island while it rains? Maybe some indoor stuff that we missed?

We spend yesterday at the hotel and don’t really want to spend another day like this.

Any recommendations will be welcomed!

BTW we been to the aquarium and round 1 which are the only 2 indoor activities come to mind

Naha - where to donate snorkel gear?

Due to price differences and difficulty finding places that will rent snorkel gear cheaply, I'm planning to bring cheap snorkel gear to Naha for a couple days of snorkelling and donating it afterwards to save taking up suitcase space for the rest of the trip.

I've done a fair bit of looking and some google street view stalking of second hand stores in Naha but I can't definitively find any that will accept second hand goods dropped off.

Can anyone please assist?

Query on if this is a Snake or Eel?

Wife and I were snorkelling off kerama islands with tour yesterday and captured this wiggly boy on our gopro. We were not in any immediate danger as it was quite a distance away, near the seabed. However, we're not too sure if this is a snake or a eel, and will appreciate any insight to it's species as well.

My husband and I have three more days left in Okinawa and we want to visit one of the islands. I know they're both going to be beautiful but we're looking for one with fun activities, great food and some light shopping. Which island should we go to?

Building an app for service members and would love feedback and suggestions!

I'm currently serving overseas, and one thing I've noticed is how easy it can be to end up feeling isolated, even when you're surrounded by thousands of other people. You arrive somewhere unfamiliar and don't necessarily know what there is to do, where to go or not go, and who to go with. Sometimes it feels like it's easier to stay in your room than figure it out. Sure eventually you meet some people from your shop, maybe someone from bootcamp or the schoolhouse, but you know that you also should try expanding your circle cause in the military, it's not always about what you know, it's also about who you know.

That idea got me thinking.

I began developing the concept for an application called ONLIBO - Discover. Connect. Return.

The idea is to create a platform where service members, particularly those stationed overseas, can discover local activities, connect with each other (including other branches of service) through shared interests, organize outings and activities, and coordinate voluntary check-ins with friends.

I'm not claiming to have invented social networking, event discovery, or location-sharing technology. That heavy lifting has already been done. I'm interest in whether bringing certain features together around this specific community would actually solve a meaningful problem in the military.

In the U.S. adults aged 21-25 are reported to have the highest level of alcohol related incidents. Uncoincidentally, in the military, members 18-25 from ranks of E1-E3 also have the highest level of incidents. Just because they join the military doesn't mean they aren't young, inexperienced, and prone to make poor choices. While this app won't completely absolve all issues, I genuinely think it will help improve the issue, build good morale and community, and allow service members to get out and do something meaningful rather than drink and bedrot in the barracks.

I'm still in the concept and validations stage. This isn't a functioning application YET, and I'm not selling anything or asking for money, however, and support whether it be feedback, suggestions, or financial support early on would be wholly appreciated and welcomed.

Before I invest further in development, I want to hear from people who've experienced military life, remote assignments, or moving somewhere without an established social circle.

A few things I'd love your perspective on:

  1. When you first arrived at a new assignment, what was the hardest part about finding things to do or meeting people outside of work?
  2. How did you actually discover events, activities, or groups? Was there something that you wish existed?
  3. Would a dedicated platform provide something useful beyond existing apps and group chats, or would it just be another app nobody needs? If so, what would be a useful app or feature that you would genuinely engage with?

Feel free to tear the idea apart. I'd rather discover a flaw now than build something people won't use. My broader hope is to make it easier for people to get out, experience the places they're statioend at, and build meaningful lifelong connections.

That's my mission behind ONLIBO and I appreciate and welcome any and all feedback :)

Okinawa in late Oct: has anyone bought 9:00 Marine Liner Tokashiki tickets on the morning of departure when online shows “fully booked”?

My partner and I are going to Okinawa 24th - 30th Oct.

We want to do a day trip to Tokashiki, but saw that the 9:00 Departure Marine Liner Tokashiki is fully booked all days.

I'm aware that we can take the Ferry Tokashiki but want to arrive on the island as early as possible.

From what I understand, reservations for the Marine Liner Tokashiki don’t need payment up front, so I’m wondering:

  • Do no-shows happen often enough that turning up at the port in the morning can work?
  • Is there a cutoff after which unclaimed reservations are released?
  • Has anyone bought a same-day ticket for the 9:00 or the next sailing?

Any tips would be helpful.

Best experiences in okinawa

Hi! I am visiting okinawa in the winter dec / jan time and wanted to know if there was anything specific to do or any specific place to go! Im really interested in creating yachimun, going to a pearl extraction, potentially the humpback whale tour, I really want to do designer / vintage purse shopping and scuba dive/ snorkel (I will have a wet suit 5mm). Depending on weather I would also love to go on a hike, easy to read the known ones but would love a great hidden gem for food as well. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!!
