I bet that woman was 100 years old when TV was invented. She was still great! Along with PBS greats like Yen Can Cook and the Frugal Gormet.

i have fond memories of watching Jacques Pépin on PBS

in one episode he mentioned that if he could only ever have one kind of meal, he'd choose bread and butter. something about it made me break into tears, it was so simple and wholesome

I had to Google him to remember him. I recognized his face but didn't remember the name. Another legend.

PBS has a streaming app and many of his episodes! I think it’s free, or at least very cheap.

Edit: also, good, fresh bread (made yourself or fresh from a bakery) with good butter (which you can also make yourself!) is truly amazing. Agree with Jacques on this.

This is such a cliché, but it's very false.

The Southern half of the country barely touches butter at all, I think I was in my thirties when I started using butter (rarely) in my cooking. Olive oil beats butter by a mile.

Butter is ace for cooking so Julia had it right.

American ones have the host be like "hey contestant, I'm am asking you a pointed and slightly oddly phrased question that I'm sure won't lead to a heartbreaking/warming story... Oh no, it's happened again. Roll VT". And they do that 6 times an episode.

“We grew up in a late stage capital hellscape, where having one less income in the house suddenly, levelled us financially”

Silver-spooned millionaire presenter: “That’s sad, NOW PICK UP THE FUCKING WHISK, YOU WANT TO WIN DON’T YOU!”

In Italy “I quit my reliable long-term job and left my partner alone for three months with the kids, including a newborn and two toddlers so I could do this.
I’m doing it for my family”

Judges: "we can't hear your story, we're too busy screaming at you for literally no other reason than building unnecessary drama!"

Watched half an episode of masterchef and that was all I could tolerate.

American shows are 10% actual content, and 90% the contestants talking about what happened and multiple "coming up!". Like why do I need to watch a clip of something 5 times before I actually watch it? Just show the fucking program.

Old school Cutthroat Kitchen was fantastic. But, you can never go wrong with Alton Brown.

What I loved about watching Mary Berry, is the baker could bring forth an absolute disaster, and she'd still find something reassuring or kind to say to them.

The American one will have really cheesy music and five hundred ads, including within the show
